Simone Biles ‘incinerated her legacy' with trans athlete posts: Riley Gaines

Riley Gaines broke down the personal attack Simone Biles levied on her on social media and what it really meant for the Olympic gold medalist and one of the greatest gymnasts of all-time. Gaines dropped the latest episode of the 'Gaines for Girls' podcast on OutKick and recorded the show a few hours after Biles came after her on X. Gaines gave Biles her flowers as one of the best athletes to have ever performed in sports, but said the posts put a bad mark on her resume. Advertisement 'In just two tweets, Simone Biles basically tarnished her reputation to anyone with a shred of honesty, to anyone with a moral compass and to anyone with an inherent innate desire to protect women, to fight for equal opportunity for both men and women especially as it pertains to sports,' she said. 'The conclusion I'm drawing based on the response we have seen over the past 12-ish hours at this point on social media, she's basically incinerated her legacy in just two tweets.' Biles launched into an attack on Gaines on Friday as the former NCAA All-American swimmer reacted to a transgender athlete winning a state championship in Minnesota softball. 3 Simone Biles attends Netflix's 'Simone Biles Rising' FYC event at Hollywood Athletic Club on June 02, 2025 in Hollywood, California. Gaines said during her podcast that she believed that Biles' post showed she may be finished competing in gymnastics with her apparent support of transgender athletes, taking a page out of Megan Rapinoe's playbook. Rapinoe said in 2023 she would support a transgender player on the US women's national team. She retired from the sport later that year. 'What she's done here is pull up the ladder behind her,' Gaines said of Biles. 'We've seen people like Megan Rapinoe do this. Simone Biles is just the latest where apparently she's done competing. Just like Megan Rapinoe did – waited until they were done competing to take a stance on this issue, which for the life of me I cannot understand. 3 Simone Biles of Team United States competes on the balance beam during the Artistic Gymnastics Women's All-Around Final on day six of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at Bercy Arena on August 01, 2024 in Paris, France. Getty Images Advertisement 'Take me out of the equation. Again, I don't care about the personal attacks. I cannot for the life of me understand why Simone Biles, in the year 2025, would advocate for this.' Biles said she would welcome a debate or discussion to talk about the issue of transgender athletes in girls' and women's sports. Gaines has been at the forefront of championing fairness in women's sports since she tied with Lia Thomas in the 2022 NCAA Championships. 'I think she blindly advocated for this without actually thinking about the effects of what this would look like,' Gaines said. 'How no one would know Simone Biles if it weren't for women's gymnastics. … If her inclusive dream was a reality, she would have zero gold medals.'

Why Steelers were so confident Aaron Rodgers would sign in lengthy free agency saga

Aaron Rodgers' relationship with his new Steelers team had been growing behind the scenes for some time. When exploring the offseason dynamic between the ex-Jets quarterback and Pittsburgh brass in a new Sports Illustrated piece published Monday, NFL insider Albert Breer explained how the Steelers never felt Rodgers, 41, would get cold feet before both parties made their one-year pact official Saturday with a $13.65 million deal. 'There weren't regularly scheduled check-ins, but Rodgers would call Tomlin and Smith every now and again, which colors why the Steelers were never really concerned that Rodgers would back out on them,' Breer wrote. 4 Aaron Rodgers made his one-year pact with the Steelers official in June 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 4 Steelers coach Mike Tomlin (l.) and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith (r.) in May 2025. AP Rodgers, coming off two unremarkable seasons with the Jets, had been targeted by the Steelers for much of the offseason. The four-time league MVP's name was originally floated when Pittsburgh 'went through initial end-of-season evaluations,' according to Breer, with the Steelers looking to move on from Russell Wilson, who started for much of the 10-7 season as Justin Fields served as the backup. Although Pittsburgh hoped to keep Fields, the former Bears first-round pick agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets as free agency began. 4 Aaron Rodgers spent the past two seasons with the Jets. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post As the quarterback dominoes continued to fall, Rodgers remained on the board, even after he visited the Steelers' facility in March. With the 2025 NFL Draft coming into view weeks later, speculation mounted as to whether Pittsburgh would take a quarterback early, a la Shedeur Sanders, or wait it out with Rodgers, who put football decisions on hold with someone close to him battling cancer. The Steelers, namely team president Art Rooney II, expressed in May that the team was willing to wait 'a little while longer' for Rodgers, with the lengthy saga coming to a close last week. 4 The Steelers are coming off a 10-7 season. AP 'Officially official,' the Steelers' Instagram account posted Saturday, sharing a photo of Rodgers wearing a curious band on his left ring finger as he put pen to paper. Rodgers signed days before the Steelers report to mandatory minicamp, which begins Tuesday. The quarterback appeared in 17 games for the Jets last season, throwing 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Rodgers will face his former Jets team in Week 1 when the Steelers visit MetLife Stadium.

Alabama picks up transfer portal commitment from in-state foe

Alabama picks up transfer portal commitment from in-state foe Alabama baseball picked up its fourth offseason commitment from the transfer portal on Monday. Former South Alabama infielder Brennan Holt, who spent a year at LSU and a year at Oklahoma State, announced his decision to transfer to the Crimson Tide in a post to social media. Holt joins pitchers Matthew Tippie (Texas State) and Kaden Humphrey (North Florida) and infielder Justin Osterhouse (Purdue-Fort Wayne) as players Alabama has added via the portal since its season ended with a 6-5 loss to Southern Miss at the Hattiesburg Regional of the NCAA Tournament on May 31. A product of Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge, Holt spent the past two seasons at South Alabama after committing to LSU in 2020. He was rated the No. 5 overall recruit in Louisiana by Perfect Game coming out of high school. Holt spent one season with the Tigers in 2022 and appeared in five games before obtaining a medical redshirt due to injury and transferring to Oklahoma State for his sophomore season in 2023. He played in 34 games for the Cowboys and batted .173 (11-for-52). As a redshirt sophomore in 2024, Holt started all 56 games for South Alabama and batted .266 with three home runs, 15 doubles and 24 RBIs. His average rose to .303 as a junior this past season, clubbing six home runs to go with 14 doubles. Holt primarily played second base and was the Jags' leadoff hitter. He stole 29 bases over two seasons with South Alabama, which finished 23-28 overall in the Sun Belt conference this year. Alabama capped the 2025 season at 41-18 overall and were 16-14 in SEC play during the regular season in coach Rob Vaughn's second year in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide's 40 victories in the regular season marked the first time since 2002 that Alabama had posted 40 or more wins in a regular season. Alabama was the No. 2 seed at the Hattiesburg Regional and was ranked No. 20 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll entering the NCAA Tournament.
