News1812-07-2025
Neeru was eventually eliminated from medal contention after tying with two seasoned shooters—Lada Denisova of the Neutral Athletes (AIN), a previous Nicosia World Cup stage winner, and Italy's Silvana Maria Stanco, the Paris Olympics silver medallist. Due to having a higher bib number, Neeru narrowly missed out on the podium.
Australia's Laetisha Scanlan clinched the gold medal with an impressive 45 hits.
Earlier in qualification, Neeru posted rounds of 25 and 24 on Saturday, adding to her overnight tally of 66 (21, 23, 22) to reach 115. Iezzi posted the same total, leading to the decisive shoot-off.
India's Preeti Rajak also showed strong form with rounds of 23 and 25, improving on her overnight score of 66 (20, 24, 22) to finish at 114—just one point short of the cut for the final, placing her eighth overall. Pragati Dubey finished further behind with a total of 100 (18, 18, 21, 19, 24).
Zoravar Misses Final After Shoot-Off in Men's Trap
In the men's trap event, veteran shooter Zoravar Singh Sandhu recorded a solid total of 121 (24, 25, 24, 24, 24). However, a five-way shoot-off ensued for the final two qualifying spots, which included at least two former Olympic champions. Zoravar was the first to be eliminated after missing his second shot.
Teammates Lakshay Sheoran (24, 22, 24, 23, 23) and Jaswinder Singh (23, 24, 22, 23, 24) both ended with scores of 116 and did not contend for qualification.

His longtime teammate Virat Kohli also made the same decision, stepping away from the longest format of the game. Both players have now shifted their focus solely to One Day Internationals. Rohit, who had captained India during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 2024–25 season, had initially expressed a desire to continue playing red-ball cricket. However, following a rough patch with the bat and opting out of the fifth Test, he later confirmed his decision to step away from Test matches altogether. Earlier, Rohit and Kohli had also bid farewell to T20Is after helping India clinch the 2024 T20 World Cup. The iconic duo will remain available for ODI duties and are expected to be key figures in India's 2027 ODI World Cup campaign.

Swimming-Backstroke queen McKeown pulls off another double

(Reuters) -World record holder Kaylee McKeown underlined her status as the undisputed queen of backstroke swimming as she added the 200 meters gold to her triumph in the 100 at the world championships in Singapore on Saturday. Once again it was American Regan Smith looking to take down McKeown, only to be reeled in on the last lap as the Australian dominator clocked 2:03.33, the third fastest swim of all time. It was nearly a second better than Smith (2:04.29), who had taken silver behind McKeown in the 100 and 200 at the Paris Olympics and was runner-up to her again in the 100 in Singapore. Just like in Paris, McKeown's win came straight after compatriot Cameron McEvoy stormed to his second 50 freestyle title in 21.14 seconds, becoming the oldest Australian swimming world champion at the age of 31. Fastest off the blocks, McEvoy once again denied Ben Proud (21.26) gold, having beaten the Briton to the Olympic title by a fingertip in Paris exactly a year ago. A new dad since Paris, McEvoy thanked his wife Maddi and gave a shout-out to his baby boy Hartley. "It's a very different life," he said. "I've got to navigate it, I'll figure it out. But it's cool to have that at home and still be here doing what I love." Gretchen Walsh kept the U.S. team medal haul ticking upwards with a dominant victory in the 50 butterfly, adding to her 100 title in Singapore. Touching the wall in 24.83 seconds, Walsh was nearly half a second better than runner-up Alex Perkins, who set an Australian record of 25.31.
