Apple may be sabotaging the iPhone 17 Air performance with an inferior chip
If that turns out to be true, the A19 Pro chip inside iPhone 17 Air will have a 5-core GPU instead of the 6-core one expected inside the iPhone 17 Pro models. That might be one of many compromises Apple makes to achieve the rumored 5.5 mm thickness of the slim device.
On the surface, the difference between a 5-core and a 6-core GPU shouldn't be noticeable unless you play demanding video games or edit videos on your device. However, that detail adds up to other aspects of the iPhone 17 Air that are very likely to limit its performance. Most importantly, thinner devices are usually worse at dissipating heat, so thermal throttling may start sooner than on the Pro models, further affecting performance. Add to that the lower battery capacity, and even if you get the full power of the A19 Pro, you might have less time to use it before you need a charger.
The iPhone 17 Air is also rumored to have only one camera instead of the triple camera of the Pro models, due to the slim design. That is also why the device may also feature a display with a lower refresh rate, slower 5G connectivity, and only one loudspeaker.
All that could make the iPhone 17 Air a tough sell, especially when compared to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The thinnest member of the Galaxy S25 family has a double camera, high-refresh rate display, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. People have repeatedly said that they want bigger batteries and are comfortable with having a thicker smartphone if it lasts longer. That's why I don't believe the iPhone 17 Air will be a smashing hit, even if I expect it to be an interesting smartphone.

iQOO 15's launch month leaks
iQOO has already acknowledged the existence of its upcoming flagship device, the 15, and we assumed that it might become official in September, right after Qualcomm will unveil the chipset that will be powering it, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, according to a new rumor out of China, the iQOO 15 will in fact wait until October to be announced. The phone is said to sport a super-high quality screen made by Samsung, and a vivo self-developed gaming chip. iQOO 13 Previous rumors talked about the iQOO 15 boasting a 6.85-inch flat AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution, three 50 MP cameras on the rear including a periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and support for 100W wired charging for its 7,000 mAh battery. There may apparently also be an iQOO 15 Ultra, coming next year with physical gaming trigger buttons, a built-in active cooling fan, and support for wireless charging. Via

Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro to get a big selfie camera upgrade
Xiaomi's 16 and 16 Pro are expected to be the first devices launching with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset at the helm, before the end of September. Today a new rumor out of China claims both of them will sport a new, massively upgraded selfie camera. It will have 50 MP resolution, support for 4K60 video recording, a wide field-of-view, and autofocus - the latter being a rare occurrence in front-facing cameras still. Xiaomi 15 This should significantly upgrade the selfie capabilities of Xiaomi's next-gen flagships compared to its current crop, especially in low light. The Xiaomi 16's main rear camera will have 50 MP resolution and a 1/1.3" type sensor, while the 16 Pro gets the same specs but its main camera will support "ultra high dynamic range" and will come with a ToF sensor. According to past rumors, the Xiaomi 16 will have a 7,000 mAh battery, a 6.3x-inch flat OLED display, a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 50 MP telephoto (perhaps of the periscope variety).
