Fern Britton said she was brutally sacked from a presenting role after she confronted a boss.
The former This Morning presenter reflected on the earlier stages of her career, when she claims there was "an awful lot of" misogyny in the industry.
Fern, who started off as a newsreader, went on to host several programmes including; Breakfast Time in the 1980s, Ready Steady Cook from 1994 to 2000, and notably This Morning from 1999 to 2009.
Speaking about her experiences with misogyny in the media, Fern, 67, commented: "At the time, I didn't realise, but there was an awful lot of putting women down, there was an awful lot of misogyny in newsrooms and you just sort of go, 'OK'.
"I appreciate that young women don't accept that any more."
Recounting a specific incident when she challenged a producer over poor instructions, she told The i Weekend: "I worked with a producer on a show years ago and she was giving me instructions that were utter nonsense.
"So I went, 'This is rubbish, this isn't any kind of research, this is all wrong'. Within a week I was off that show."
Additionally, Fern shared that she was let go from After Five, following an emotional moment on air.
The presenter said she struggled to hold back tears during an interview with a terminally ill cancer patient, at a time when she was dealing with postnatal depression.
Fern is widely recognised for her stint as a presenter on ITV's This Morning, sharing the screen with Phillip Schofield.
Over the years, she's been quite open about the ups and downs of their friendship, a topic she touched upon once again during her time on Celebrity Big Brother last year.
While discussing This Morning with ex-housemate Gary Goldsmith, Fern remarked: "It was tricky at times.
"It is an institution that like the monarchy it rocks. I think Ben [Shephard] and Cat [Deeley] will do a great job. It's a new era."
Upon hearing Gary suggest that there were whispers of Phillip entering the house, Fern appeared visibly concerned and responded: "Oh, well. That didn't happen yet. Maybe that will happen as a surprise? I might have to leave at that point!".

Fern's stint on the ITV programme lasted until 2009, when Holly Willoughby took over her role.
In a previous conversation with MailOnline regarding her departure, she insisted her exit was down to her deteriorating relationship with her co-host.
When probed, she admitted: "To leave This Morning? Ultimately, yes. I loved it and I would probably still be there if... Phillip and I were not getting on very well at that stage."
Phillip himself has reflected on their strained rapport in his 2020 autobiography Life's What You Make It.
During a chapter, he said he tried to 'make things right' and that he 'missed her deeply'.

Gino D'Acampo reveals TV return after ITV axe over misconduct allegations

Gino D'Acampo has confirmed his plans to return to TV after months of controversy following 'inappropriate behaviour' allegations. A matter of months ago, the Italian celebrity chef, 48, faced accusations of misconduct involving his former colleagues. His alleged behaviour was described as 'unacceptable' and 'distressing', and is said to have included sexualised comments and aggressive language on sets. D'Acampo has always 'firmly denied' the allegations and said they are 'deeply upsetting'. The reports led to him retreating from the limelight, as he was removed from ITV's programming in February. But now, D'Acampo is keen to make a comeback and is set to film a new travelogue later this year. He told The Mirror: 'We have a TV project on for later this year in September, I want to go all around Malta, it's a show called An Italian In Malta. 'The idea is to show everyone all over the world a bit about the country—I want to find the perfect restaurant, the perfect recipe, the perfect spot. 'I will speak to the local people [about] what they cook and how they cooked 200 years ago.' But that's not all, as D'Acampo also has a mystery series in the works, which sees him act for the first time. He revealed: 'I am playing a part in a series; my part is this Italian-American mechanic that is always in trouble with the police or always in trouble with the law, and then he became a mechanic, and he's helping the main character in the show. 'This is acting now; I'm not becoming a real mechanic. I'm useless at stuff like that.' The TV personality actually shared a first glimpse of his role in March via images posted on social media. Snaps showed D'Acampo dressed in a navy boiler suit in what appeared to be a car garage. The TV chef had dark oil patches and dirt across his face and was seen taking a drag on a cigarette while looking at a car engine. Some pics also captured him looking at the camera and discussing scripts. 'What a fantastic experience in Ireland working on a new series… I can't wait for you guys to see it… 😎 p.s Happy St Patrick's Day,' read the caption of the post on Instagram. The upload was supported by some of D'Acampo's former colleagues, including Josie Gibson, who worked with him on This Morning. Celebrity Juice star Leigh Francis, aka Keith Lemon, liked the post too, as did John Barrowman, who has been vocal about his support for the star. In December 2024, D'Acampo was first accused of inappropriate behaviour towards a This Morning colleague. The unnamed woman lodged a complaint to ITV over D'Acampo's alleged behaviour towards her while she worked with him on set of the daytime programme from 2006 to 2011, according to The Sun. It was then claimed that he 'thrust his crotch' at a female staffer while filming on a show with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, which D'Acampo denied emphatically. D'Acampo told MailOnline at the time: 'I have been completely shocked by, and deny utterly, these awful accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct against me, which are alleged to have taken place years ago during the shooting of Gordon, Gino & Fred. 'Let me be clear: This did not happen. I take such matters extremely seriously and in particular the suggestion that I have deliberately acted in this improper way against any female employees is deeply upsetting.' In February, D'Acampo's former I'm A Celebrity co-star, Kim Woodburn, called him a 'full-of-himself little pig' who made vile comments about his penis while they appeared on TV together. The cookbook author has been supported by celebrities including Jeremy Clarkson and Gordon Ramsay, who revealed he had reached out to his former co-star. As for his upcoming projects, premiere dates are yet to be revealed. More Trending However, the one set in Ireland isn't the first time D'Acampo has worked with cars on screen after appearing on Emission Impossible. The series was a car-related show starring D'Acampo and Sirieix on an eco-friendly adventure across Austria and Croatia to learn the cost of going green. It was axed after two episodes were released in 2024. This article was first published on March 20, 2025. Got a story? 'Scared' Gemma Collins 'calls 999 after receiving abusive letter at her home'

The Only Way Is Essex icon Gemma Collins reportedly had to call the police after receiving a 'threatening and abusive' letter at her home A 'scared' Gemma Collins reportedly called the police after she received a 'threatening and abusive' letter at her home from a man who wrote about his extreme dislike for her. The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 44, called the cops, who then visited her home in the countryside. Following the reported incident, it has been said that the TV personality has upped her security with round the clock dog patrols and loved ones keeping her company. According to an insider, the Celebrity Big Brother icon was left 'shaken and very scared for her safety' after receiving the letter. ‌ ‌ The source said the abusive letter was from a "man expressing his extreme dislike for her and using menacing language." They added: "It was really nasty and made reference to tracking her down, so she called the police straight away." The Mirror have reached out to Gemma's representatives for comment. The source went on to tell The Sun that Gemma has been grateful to the police for their help in the "ongoing investigation". In May, Gemma revealed on a podcast that she had to deal with stalkers over the years, which "played havoc on her mind". Gemma said: 'No one would believe the bloody crap I've had to deal with. I've had a woman stalker who wrote me a letter in white gloves and wanted to kill me. "You know, people would wish me dead. I'd get all sorts at the shop. Weird. People are weird. And that's why in a way I came away from my shop in the end.' ‌ Meanwhile, Gemma has been struggling with her health in recent weeks. Earlier this week, a bedridden Gemma took to Instagram to share an update about her health, revealing that she had been seriously unwell for a number of weeks. In her post, which included a photo of the reality TV star laying in bed, she wrote: "Hey guys sorry been quiet i have Pneumonia. I'm not as fast or on it as I usually am on the daily. I am still honouring my work commitments which is taking every bit of energy I have but will be back entertaining you all soon." In a further update on her Instagram Story, Gemma revealed she was receiving treatment via a drip and had been seen by a doctor. ‌ Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs typically caused by an infection, and while most people recover within two to four weeks, infants, the elderly, and those with heart or lung conditions are at a higher risk of severe illness and may require hospitalisation. Luckily, Gemma has not had to go to hospital, but speaking to The Mirror, she admitted that she felt as though she was "dying".

JoJo Siwa 'set for another huge move' with Chris Hughes as romance ramps up

Celebrity Big Brother stars JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes have had fans gripped with their unexpected romance as the pair are said to be in talks for their own reality show JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes seem ready to take another step in their budding romance as they could open the doors to their private lives. The couple have had fans gripped with their unlikely relationship after meeting in the Celebrity Big Brother house earlier this year. They struck up a surprise romance when JoJo broke up with her girlfriend Kath Ebbs at the show's wrap party. Since then, JoJo, 22, and Chris, 32, have been getting to know each other on the outside world with them flying across the pond to be together. ‌ Dance Moms star JoJo has been spending time with Chris at his home in the Cotswolds, having repeatedly shared her new love for the UK. As interest in their love life shows no sign of slowing down, it seems JoJo and Chris are considering revealing more of their lives. ‌ The couple are said to be having talks with ITV about the potential of their own reality TV series as they navigate life together. Bosses are reportedly convinced the show would go global thanks to the love for Chris and JoJo. 'It's still in the early stages but ITV really think they'd be amazing TV with their own show," a source told the Sun. 'Chris and JoJo are keen too, and while there is no deal signed yet, the talks have been really promising." They added: 'ITV are eyeing up the show to air on ITV2, hopefully later this year once everything is signed on the dotted line.' If things were to fall into place, it wouldn't be the first time Chris has starred in something like this. After he shot to fame on Love Island in 2017, he left the villa with then-girlfriend Olivia Attwood. The pair landed their own ITVBe spin-off show Chris & Olivia: Crackin' On, before their romance came to an end. JoJo and Chris have been gushing over each other since they took their friendship to the next level after weeks of 'are they aren't they' rumours. The dancer has even gone as far as saying she has found The One in Chris. ‌ Speaking to Capital Breakfast presenter Jordan North earlier this week, JoJo got sentimental in her description of the pair's newfound love as she compared it to a house. She said: "You know what's interesting? As hectic as life is, and as much as that noise goes on, I feel like Christopher and I discovered this beautiful house together. "And this house is earthquake proof, and it's fireproof, and bulletproof. And you know, we discovered this house and found the keys, and we took the keys and locked ourselves in, and now it's like... You know what I mean? I feel like that with myself, I feel like that with him." ‌ When Jordan probed further, he asked the singer if she felt Chris was her "happy place". She immediately gushed back: "Oh my god, absolutely! We're having the best time. He's just the best! "I was saying this to my parents the other day. Like, I'm decently nice; he makes me look like I'm mean! And I'm like known for being nice, that's the thing. People say to me, 'Oh, you're so nice'. "He makes me we want to be nicer, because he's such a nice human. He's the best egg in the batch! I could never get tired of speaking highly of him, he's just the best."
