Final and rarest batch of £1 coins bearing the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II which were minted the year she died are released into circulation
More than 23 million Queen coins are being released alongside 7.5 million new King Charles III £1 coins.
The Royal Mint said the last of the Elizabeth II coins, dated 2022, are the rarest £1 coins in active circulation.
The dual release of almost 31 million coins represents a significant moment for UK coinage, as the nation sees the changeover from Britain's longest-reigning monarch to her son, the Royal Mint said.
The Queen's £1 coins will be the final ones bearing Elizabeth II's portrait to enter circulation.
The Royal Mint is encouraging the public to check its change over the coming weeks, as the new coins begin to appear in pockets and tills across the nation.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint, said: 'This release represents a pivotal moment in British coinage history.
'As we release more of the King Charles III £1 coins into circulation alongside the final coins of Queen Elizabeth II, we're witnessing the physical representation of our monarchy's transition.
'This dual release creates an exceptional opportunity for both seasoned numismatists and those new to coin collecting.'
Ms Morgan added: 'Finding these new coins in your change could spark a rewarding hobby that connects you with the heritage, history and craftsmanship behind British currency.'
Since the introduction of the King's effigy on UK coinage in 2023, the 50p and £1 are the only denominations with Charles's portrait to have entered circulation so far.
The King's £1 coins feature an intricate bee design on the reverse and are part of the Definitive collection, inspired by the flora and fauna of the British Isles.
Some 2.975 million £1s with the King's effigy were released in August last year.
In total, there are around 24.7 billion coins in circulation across the UK, with the King's coins representing only around 0.004 per cent of those, making his new coins highly desirable to collectors.
All UK coins bearing the Queen's portrait will remain legal tender and in active circulation to allow a smooth transition and minimise the environmental impact and cost.

He also suggested that the noise referenced in the complaints was linked to 'events and venues' in the nearby area, not the 'existing fuselage'. Johnny first opened up his Airbnb in 2021, which has been used by film makers, music video producers and event organisers. The jet itself was built in 1968 and used as a private jet from 1981 until 2012. A night on the plane costs £850, though its owner claims that it makes guests feel like a 'billionaire at 32-feet'. The jet comes with leather seats, a gold plated shower, two double bedrooms but has had its wings and engine removed. He wants his second project to begin development in January, if he gets permission from the council. After that, he wants to launch the space in March. Speaking about his vision for the city, Johnny said: "Cities are defined by their landmarks or skylines. In Bristol we have a bridge and some colourful houses which I love, but I think we can do better. "I love the idea of Bristol being known as the place with the airliners on shipping containers. It adds to our global identity, inspires young engineers and is a spectacle to see. "I want this project to be something that inspires more people to do more, think bigger, create better work." Miliband urged to block Israeli-owned company from North Sea drilling
Ed Miliband has been urged to block an Israeli-controlled company from drilling two of the largest remaining North Sea oil fields. Campaigners claim that Ithaca Energy's profits will fuel 'genocide' in Gaza. Ithaca, already one of the UK's largest offshore operators, is controlled by Israel's Delek Group, which has been flagged by the UN for operating in illegally occupied Palestinian territories. Delek is also understood to provide fuel to the Israeli Defence Force. Ithaca is seeking a new licence from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to drill the Rosebank oil field, 60 miles west of Shetland. It has also just been given an 18-month extension to a separate licence for the similarly large Cambo oil field. Tessa Khan, the director of Uplift, a campaign group, said political and humanitarian issues should be considered as part of Ithaca's licence applications as she urged the Energy Secretary to reject them. Ms Khan said: 'Behind these numbers lies a far bigger story. North Sea operator, Ithaca Energy, is majority-owned by Delek Group, a company that has been named by the UN for human rights violations in Palestine. 'In fact, if the Government approves the Rosebank oil field, which Ithaca co-owns, it could see over £250m flow to Delek, which is known to operate in illegal Israeli settlements and provide fuel to the IDF at a time that Israel is responsible for genocide.' Asked about Uplift's allegations, a spokesman for Ithaca Energy said: 'Ithaca Energy is a London Stock Exchange-listed company which is a member of the FTSE 250, and which is governed by the highest standards of corporate governance. 'Ithaca is one of the biggest investors in the North Sea and Scotland, is a responsible employer and is a major contributor to both the UK Treasury through tax payments and to the UK's energy security.' Pressure on Israel The appeal to block Ithaca comes as the Government steps up pressure on Israel to change course in Gaza. Sir Keir Starmer last month vowed to recognise Palestine as a state unless Israel met a series of conditions, including ending the 'appalling' situation in Gaza. Uplift last year won a court case that revoked the Rosebank drilling licences previously issued by the UK Government. The court supported Uplift's claim that ministers had paid too little attention to the emissions that Rosebank's oil and gas would generate. Ithaca's latest report confirms it now plans to seek a new updated licence.
