HBCU star signs to Spurs NBA summer league squad

Miami Herald03-07-2025
HBCU standout Noah Farrakhan is officially headed to the NBA Summer League. The former Hampton University guard will suit up for the San Antonio Spurs' 2025 squad, becoming the third HBCU player to sign with an NBA team after this year's draft.
Farrakhan joins former Howard forward Steve Settle III (Miami Heat) and Alabama State/South Carolina State guard TJ Madlock (Detroit Pistons). Together, they represent a growing wave of HBCU talent earning NBA opportunities.
Farrakhan's Impact at Hampton
After transferring from West Virginia, Farrakhan immediately made his presence felt during the 2024–25 season. The Newark, New Jersey native led the Pirates in scoring with 14.2 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. His efficiency ranked among the top 10 in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
In 21 games, he reached double figures and helped guide Hampton to its first winning season since 2019. His consistent production played a key role in turning the team's momentum around.
Awards and Breakout Performances
Throughout the season, Farrakhan earned multiple honors, including four HBCU All-Stars Independent Player of the Week awards. He also stood out at the Cayman Islands Classic, averaging 21 points and 4.6 rebounds across three games. His performance helped Hampton notch a critical win over Duquesne.
As a result, he was named to the tournament's All-Team and later secured a spot on the All-CAA Third Team.
Making the Jump to the NBA
Farrakhan's journey from HBCU basketball to the NBA stage reflects the growing respect for players from these programs. San Antonio adds a confident, battle-tested guard capable of contributing on both ends of the court.
The Spurs' Summer League team opens play Saturday, July 5, in the California Classic against the Miami Heat. After that, Farrakhan and the team will head to Las Vegas for the NBA 2K26 Summer League from July 10–17.
HBCU Pipeline to the Pros
As more players like Farrakhan transition from HBCUs to the NBA, the talent pipeline continues to grow. These opportunities affirm that HBCU athletes can shine-and thrive-at the highest level.

Analyzing the Lakers' 2025-26 schedule

The Los Angeles Lakers' schedule for the 2025-26 NBA season has now been released. While the arrangement of a team's schedule doesn't matter as much in the NBA as it does in the NFL, it is still a factor, and it is still something players and coaches have to take into account. The Lakers' schedule this season will have some really challenging stretches. However, there are also some portions of the schedule that are favorable at the right times, and that is something they can take advantage of as they look to become a legitimate championship contender. Let's start with the initial weeks of L.A.'s schedule. The first month or so isn't easy, but it's manageable The Lakers are still in the process of developing chemistry with Luka Doncic after he arrived in early February. Therefore, a manageable first few weeks of the schedule would really help. They have a challenging game to start the regular season versus the Golden State Warriors at home on Oct. 21. After that, their next 15 games or so are something they should be able to handle while still being moderately challenged enough to grow as a unit. During that time, they will play the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team that knocked them out of the first round of playoffs in five games, on Oct. 24 and Oct. 29. Other than that, the only other truly challenging team they will face in the first month of the season is the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder. On the other hand, nine of L.A.'s first 14 games will be on the road. That includes their first extended road trip of the season. The Lakers have three long road trips this season On Nov. 8, the Lakers start a five-game road trip with a contest versus the Atlanta Hawks. Over the following week, they will also play the Charlotte Hornets, Thunder, New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks before returning home for a game against the Utah Jazz on Nov. 18. After that, the Lakers' schedule is pretty manageable until their annual Grammy road trip, which begins this season on Jan. 20, 2026. The first game of that trip will be against the Denver Nuggets. This season's Grammy trip will last eight games and also include contests versus the Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks. Then in March, Los Angeles will have its third and final extended road trip. This one will have six games, and it will start with twin games against the Houston Rockets, as well as matchups with the Orlando Magic and the rising Detroit Pistons. There will be a long stretch of predominantly home games After the Lakers return from their Grammy trip, they will be home for almost every game until that six-game trip in March. In fact, they will only have three road games during that stretch against the Phoenix Suns, Warriors and Nuggets. That means they will barely be crossing time zones for about a month and a half. They will, however, have several tough games during that time, including two against the Warriors and Nuggets and one against the Thunder, Timberwolves and Knicks. At least fatigue shouldn't be an issue for that portion of the schedule. The final games of the schedule are a mixed bag The Lakers will have nine games remaining after their six-game road trip in March. They will play the Thunder twice and have one game each against the Warriors, Mavericks and Cavaliers during that stretch. But other than that, they will have some relatively easy games, including their final two of the season, which will be the Suns and Jazz at home. That should give them a relatively soft landing as they prepare for the postseason. How many back-to-back games will the Lakers have? In recent years, the NBA has done a decent job of cutting back on how many back-to-back games every team has had throughout a season. This year, L.A. will have 14 sets of back-to-back games, which is just as many as it had last season. Last season, the Lakers had six sets of back-to-back games in March and April, and they played a stretch of 10 games in 15 days, which included four sets of back-to-back games and three such sets in a row. This season, they will have three back-to-back sets in March and one in April. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Analyzing the Lakers' 2025-26 schedule

Indiana Pacers Get Usual Schedule Advantages, But Have Odd Road Trips

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers 2025-26 schedule, along with the other 29 NBA teams, was announced on Thursday. The obvious things remain true for every team – 80 scheduled games, with more to come based on NBA Cup results, with half of them in their home arena. But each team has different divisions, travel considerations, back-to-backs, and more that make every schedule unique. And the Pacers have one of the same advantages they have every year. What advantages do the Pacers get via their schedule? Due to Indiana's central location with their division foes (Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, and Milwaukee) plus their close proximity when it comes to East coast teams and a few squads in the central United States, the Pacers will have the fewest miles travelled of any team in the NBA this season. Positive Residual tracks the distance each team covers in miles due to their schedule, and Indiana's 35,346 is the fewest of any team. 20 teams travel more than 40,000 miles this season. The Pacers other edge is simply happenstance, but they are tied with five other teams in having only 13 instances of playing on back-to-back nights this season. That's the lowest number in the NBA. That said, Indiana only plays nine games with a true rest advantage this season, which is in the bottom half of the league. Their nine games with a rest disadvantage is near the bottom of the association too, and it could be argued those two facts come out in the wash. The blue and gold will be battling similarly-rested opponents for much of the campaign. Indiana's first 10 games are challenging. They open the season hosting the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in an NBA Finals rematch, and seven of their first 10 games come against 2025 postseason clubs. Two of the three non-playoff squads from last season in that stretch are Atlanta and Dallas, who both improved during the summer. It's a difficult first 2.5 weeks for the Pacers. In the midst of that 10-game stretch, they host the Milwaukee Bucks. It will be the Pacers first chance to play against center Myles Turner, a big man who spent the previous 10 seasons with the franchise. It will be the first time ever that Turner has played against the blue and gold and will use the road team locker room in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In that opening 10-game period, the Pacers have a four-game stretch with consecutive games in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It's the first of five homestands the team has this coming season compared to just four road trips of the same criteria – and one of the road trips is broken up by All-Star weekend. Nine of Indiana's games will be on National TV, including their home opener against the Thunder. With the NBA bringing in some new broadcast partners, the Pacers will play a handful of games shown on Amazon Prime or Peacock. The Pacers schedule from January 17 through February 20 is perhaps the strangest part. It features two lengthy road trips, multiple back-to-backs, and a homestand in between. Many of the opponents in that span project to be tough, too. Given that the trade deadline comes during the timeframe, it could be a revealing stretch for the blue and gold. Indiana begins the regular season on October 23. Before that, they'll play four preseason games, which all come against Western Conference foes. That's ironic, as the preseason is the unofficial start to the campaign in which the Pacers will try to defend their Eastern Conference title – though it will be incredibly difficult without Turner and star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is out for the season. The entire Pacers schedule can be viewed here.
