Durrant: Rangers will need to ride their luck in the Athens heat
The Ibrox side are taking a 2-0 lead to Greece, where they will face Panathinaikos in the second leg of the qualifying game on Wednesday.
Former Gers midfielder Durrant believes Russell Martin won't change his tactics too much, with the emphasis on attacking their opponents, but with a bit of caution when needed.
He said: 'You need a bit of luck, obviously, the conditions will be the same for both teams, but it will be hot so you'll need a bit of luck on your side.
'They've got a clean sheet and a two-goal advantage, so the manager will go there full of optimism, but it will be down to the players and what he sets them out to do.
'It will be hard, you are never going to be playing any mugs in the Champions League qualifiers, so you just have to get your job done and get on with it.
'The second half from last week will give the team a bit of belief. They rode their luck a little bit, and Jack Butland was called upon a few times, but they steadied the ship and scored two fantastic goals to take a two-goal lead over there.
'The manager's emphasis is on expansive, attacking football, and I think we'll see that.
'There will be a bit of caution, of course, you can't just go gung-ho; we saw last week that Panathinaikos opened Rangers up a few times, so they will have to rely on the defenders being defenders, then when you have the ball, you have to make good use of it.'
Durrant insists the finances involved in the continent's top competition make it a priority for Rangers as they look to qualify for the first time since 2022.
He said: 'Financially, it could be a big boost for the club. The manager will also want to do what he can in the Champions League, but financially, it would be huge, and if they get through, it will help to get better players in.'
If they get past Panathinaikos, then Rangers will play either Viktoria Plzeň or Servette in the next qualifying round before a potential play-off.

But the report claims that Carvajal will "have to get used to the bench" and says the veteran defender is "no longer untouchable" after spending much of last season on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament tear. Carvajal - who has been at the club for so long that he played with Alonso at Real Madrid - will turn 34 in January and no longer has the same pace and power he was once renowned for. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has been a huge hit since arriving in Madrid - wowing the press with his fluent Spanish-speaking ability. He also gets along well with the club's centre-backs, the report adds, and has the "character, talent and profile" that fits the playing style Alonso wants to implement on the team. It says Alonso is looking more towards a youthful outlook for the team, saying that stars like Endrick, Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz could start becoming "key pieces" of the puzzle at Madrid. Carvajal is not the only long-serving star who faces a bench role in the upcoming season. Rodrygo appears to have fallen down the pecking order under Alonso already after the coach after he was benched for their Club World Cup semi-final clash against PSG. Alonso said he needed "another player" when asked for a reasoning behind the decision, but said he hadn't decided whether on the Brazilian's future just yet. "The fact that he didn't play again is a game-by-game decision," he said. "The way things were going, we needed another player. Newcastle identify Benjamin Sesko transfer alternative as Man Utd hold talks with striker
Newcastle and Manchester United are both keen on landing RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko but the Magpies have now eyed up PSG's Goncalo Ramos as a possible forward target Newcastle are keeping tabs on PSG's Goncalo Ramos as they weigh up potential striker options which also involve Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig frontman has emerged as a player who is wanted by Newcastle and the Red Devils this week, with the former seeing the Slovenian as a possible replacement for Alexander Isak, who is now on Liverpool's radar as he considers his options. Newcastle have seen an opening offer for Sesko rejected and are discussing the possibility of pursuing Ramos at PSG, with the French side open to his exit. The Magpies considered the Portuguese forward as an option three years ago before they signed Isak. Ramos was then at Benfica, but later joined the French champions. He is by no means a regular starter in Paris though and the striker, still only 24, is being considered as a target at St James' Park after scoring 33 goals from 86 matches at the Parc des Princes. Newcastle's priority target is Sesko, but they will look elsewhere if negotiations head south, reports the Daily Mail. Eddie Howe's side saw a bid of £69.8m including add-ons turned down. Discussions continue over the structure of that deal whilst those in Manchester have not made an offer. Sesko is open to both projects at the respective Premier League clubs, although it is Newcastle who can offer him Champions League football for the upcoming season. The Slovenian was absent from Leipzig's pre-season friendly loss to Atalanta on Saturday due to his expected departure. He has reportedly told his team-mates that he will be leaving, as per Sky in Germany. Marcel Schafer, RB Leipzig's managing director for sport, has confirmed that interested parties have expressed their desire to take the player. He said: "We won't go into detail on that but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it's obvious what has happened." United have already added Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha this summer but want a No 9. It is understood that Leipzig are interested in United's Rasmus Hojlund and have considered a possible loan. The German club had proposed taking Hojlund on loan as part of any any deal that takes Sesko to Manchester. Newcastle are also interested in Brentford's Yoane Wissa, who was not part of Brentford's squad for their friendly against QPR on Saturday, as he looks to move away from the west London outfit.
