Five retired Punjab Police personnel sentenced to life imprisonment in 1993 fake encounter case
Seven people, including four Special Police Officers (SPOs), were gunned down in the incident in 1993 in Rani Willa village in Tarn Taran district.
Those who have been sentenced to life imprisonment include former SSP Bhupinderjit Singh (61), former DSP Davinder Singh (58), former inspector Suba Singh (83), assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) Gulabarg Singh (72) and Raghbir Singh (63).
Sarabjit Singh Verka, counsel for the victim's families, said, "Finally, justice has been delivered to the families of the victims after 32 years. They have been waiting for this day. The court pronounced the quantum of the sentence and life imprisonment to all five accused who were earlier convicted in the case and imposed a penalty of Rs 17.50 lakh. The compensation will be given to the families of the deceased. Further, the court has sent the case to the district legal service authority.''

Two arrested for cyber fraud of Rs 69 lakh

The use of a rickshaw puller's account highlighted their modus operandi of exploiting vulnerable individuals to carry out their fraudulent schemes. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IT Act and other relevant sections. Further investigation is underway to uncover any potential accomplices and retrieve the stolen funds.

Arms, ammo seized from flat, one held
Kolkata: A massive cache of arms and ammunition was seized from a ground-floor flat in a complex in Khardah's Regent Park on Monday, and the flat owner, Madhusudan Mukhopadhyay alias Liton (66), was arrested. Acting on information, Barrackpore cops raided the building, Pratima Manjil, and seized 15 firearms — both indigenous and foreign-made — and over a thousand rounds of ammunition. Valuables worth several lakhs and nearly Rs 5 lakh in cash were also seized from the premises. Cops believe Liton is an arms dealer with links to Munger, in Bihar. Another resident, Sushmita Dey Kundu, said, "He always greeted everyone with a smile, and mingle with everyone. We are deeply shocked. This is terrifying." Two held brown sugar worth Rs 2 lakh
Indore: Indore crime branch on Monday said to have arrested two persons and seized 19 gram of brown sugar from their possession, with an estimated international market value of Rs 2 lakh. The accused, identified as Vinod alias Vishal Dariyani (41) and Vicky Gujarati (36), were apprehended near the Govt Veterinary Hospital in Snehalataganj. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team spotted two men on a motorcycle who became nervous and attempted to flee upon seeing the police vehicle. The officers quickly intercepted them. During questioning, the men confessed that they were buying brown sugar at a low price and selling it at a higher rate to drug addicts in Indore, driven by the motive of making easy money. Police confiscated the brown sugar along with the motorcycle used in the illegal activity. A case was registered against the duo under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act at the crime branch police station. "This action is part of the senior police officials' directive to crack down on individuals and networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade in the city" Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said.
