
Malaysia's NES to expand exports to North America, South Asia and Middle East
KLANG: Residential security door specialist NES Security Door Marketing Sdn Bhd has outlined an export expansion targeting Taiwan, the Philippines and Australia this year.
NES' future plans are to venture into North America, South Asia and the Middle East.
The company took a major step forward with the opening of its new factory at the Meru Barat industrial area in Klang, Selangor.
Founder and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dom Tee said the new factory will boost NES' production capacity from 800 to 2,000 units per month.
"The opening of the new plant is timely and aligns with the company's strategy to penetrate the growing export market."
Tee said in 2024, export-oriented industries contributed 70.1 per cent of total national manufacturing sales, a 7.1 per cent increase from the previous year.
"This reflects a strong indicator of Malaysia's global competitiveness.
"With an annual growth target of 20 per cent, NES aims to generate RM45 million in annual export revenue by 2027," he said at the launch on Saturday.
NES also formalised an international partnership with Switzerland's Skinrock AG, a pioneer in ultra-thin natural stone veneer technology, through a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
According to Tee, the agreement is not just about expanding operations, but marks the beginning of NES' long-term strategy to produce design-driven, technology-enabled and uniquely material-based products with a clear mission to enter the global premium market.
"This agreement is a significant milestone, but it's just the beginning of a larger journey. We're not just making doors. What we're building is a brand capable of competing globally.
"Our goal is to be publicly listed by 2028, with a target market valuation of RM400 million. With strategic partnerships and consistent growth, we believe we can become a platform for local companies to shine on the global stage," he said.
One of the initial initiatives from the partnership is the launch of a new 'NES x Skinrock' series, featuring natural stone veneer as a key design element.
"This range will also showcase the Master Craft's Artist special collection – limited edition doors co-designed with both local and international designers, blending artistic creativity with local craftsmanship.
"This initiative not only strengthens NES' position in the market but also demonstrates how local industry players can harness global technology to create competitive, unique, world-class products," Tee said.
Skinrock founder Uelli Stiffler said the company is excited to break into the Southeast Asian market through its partnership with NES.
"Working with NES opens up new opportunities to explore applications of our material technology and bring this natural stone veneer innovation to a broader market.
"We hope this collaboration will inspire more cross-border partnerships between European and Malaysian industries," he said.

LONDON: Stock markets and dollar trades diverged Friday as investors assessed the outlook for US President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, which are under scrutiny by US courts. In the latest turn, a US appeals court on Thursday allowed Trump to temporarily keep his aggressive tariffs in place, a day after the US Court of International Trade barred most of the levies launched since he took office. That news saw Asian markets reverse gains as analysts warned that legal wrangling could add to volatility and throw uncertainty into trade talks between Washington and other governments. All three main indices on Wall Street ended slightly higher on Thursday, with sentiment also dented by data showing the US economy contracted in January-March, albeit at a slower pace than first thought. Disappointing readings on jobless benefits and pending home sales added to the more downbeat mood, with investors also on edge over elevated bond yields and Trump's plans to ramp up the budget deficit.

Chinese lidar maker Hesai zeroes in on South-East Asia for first overseas plant
China's Hesai Group, the world's largest maker of automotive lidar sensors, plans to open its first plant outside the mainland in Southeast Asia next year. Chief financial officer Andrew Fan said on Wednesday the Shanghai-based company recently signed a land lease for the factory, with construction set to start later this year and production in late 2026. He did not give details. The factory will supply light detection and ranging sensors – which employ laser beams to measure distances to objects – to international marques that design and assemble smart vehicles, he added. 'From the end of 2026 or early 2027, Hesai will rely on the plant in Southeast Asia to serve some of our international clients,' Fan said. 'We are building overseas plants to implement our go-global strategy.' The company's announcement came after Hesai on Tuesday reported a 46.3 per cent jump in first-quarter revenue to 530 million yuan (US$73.6 million), while its net loss narrowed 84 per cent to 17.5 million yuan. Fan said the company would generate a profit of 200 million yuan to 350 million yuan for the full year on the back of surging demand for lidar sensors by smart-car and robot makers. Hesai – whose clients include Li Auto, China's largest maker of premium electric vehicles (EVs), and Geely, owner of Volvo Cars – would deliver 1.5 million units to customers this year, he added. Last month, CEO David Li Yifan said that the company would increase its manufacturing capacity fourfold this year to 2 million units, from about 502,000 units in 2024. Fan said an escalating EV price war on the mainland would have minimal impact on Hesai's revenue. 'We firmly believe people's rising awareness about safety and rapid technology advancement in making cars more autonomous will result in stronger demand for lidar sensors,' Fan said. 'Carmakers and consumers need reliable hardware and software to ensure driving safety. They will not try to save costs on driver assistance systems.' The company also plans to set up factories in Europe, where Hesai has formed partnerships with several top carmakers to develop advanced driver assistance systems, a preliminary technology for autonomous driving. In March, Hesai announced that its products would be used in the next-generation cars of a 'leading European' assembler over the next decade, which Reuters reported was Mercedes-Benz. It was the first time that a major European carmaker had picked a Chinese lidar supplier. Hesai's overseas expansion is the latest example of Chinese automotive supply-chain vendors showcasing their superiority in technology and manufacturing. Chinese car-component makers, from EV battery producers like Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) to automobile safety glassmaker Fuyao Glass, were being welcomed by developed markets like Europe to establish factories, according to analysts. 'Chinese technology is spreading rapidly in the global auto industry and that [trend] has become more visible,' said Paul Gong, head of China automotive research at UBS. 'The rise of the Chinese auto sector is not only reflected in Chinese-branded cars, but also in its influence on global carmakers amid their transition to EVs and smart mobility.' Work on US$1b Trump Tower Vietnam may start next year
HANOI: Investment in a planned Trump Tower in Vietnam is estimated at around US$1 billion (RM4.2 billion) and construction of the at least 60-storey skyscraper could start next year, a person familiar with the discussions told Reuters. The building, for which plans are still preliminary, would be the second major project the Trump Organisation, US President Donald Trump's family business, is reviewing in Vietnam. The Southeast Asian country is currently in trade talks with Washington to avoid crippling 46% tariffs. Eric Trump, senior vice-president of the Trump Organisation, visited Vietnam last week to survey the site for the tower in the country's southern business hub of Ho Chi Minh City and to attend the groundbreaking for a golf resort in northern Vietnam. The approval for the golf club, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, had been expedited by the authorities. The Trump Organisation would operate the golf club, while its Vietnamese partner, real estate firm Kinhbac City, would focus on developing it with an estimated investment of US$1.5 billion, the source said. The division of work had not been previously reported. A similar arrangement is likely to be agreed for the Trump Tower, with the investment expected to come mostly from local partners, the source said, declining to be named because the information is not public. The Trump Organisation did not reply to a request for comment. Kinhbac City, a leading industrial real estate developer in Vietnam, did not respond to a request for comment. When it announced its collaboration with the Trump Organisation in October, the company said the venture 'will focus on developing 5-star hotels, championship-style golf courses, and luxurious residential estates and unparalleled amenities in Vietnam.' During his visit last week, Eric Trump toured the site where the skyscraper would be built and met local officials, the source said. That was in line with the schedule of his engagements with the city's authorities, according to a Vietnamese document seen by Reuters. The tower would be built in Thu Thiem, an area under development in central Ho Chi Minh City where a new financial centre is planned to be built, the document from the city's authorities showed. At the groundbreaking for the golf resort, Eric Trump said the projects to be developed in Vietnam would be 'the envy of all of Asia and of the entire world', adding he would visit the country frequently to further the company's plans. Approvals for the tower project are still being sought and no final decision had been made about when construction will start, the source said, adding that the aim was to have the groundbreaking next year. The investment could be larger than US$1 billion if permits are obtained for a building with more than 60 floors, the person said. The Trump Organisation operates several towers in the US and across the world, but does not own all of them. The flagship Trump Tower in the Manhattan neighbourhood of New York City was built in the 1980s.
