Elderly man dies after being hit by lorry while exiting mosque compound

KAMPAR: An elderly man was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a lorry at Km26.5, Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur, while he was on his way home from Friday prayers at the mosque today.
The incident, which occurred around 2pm, claimed the life of Mazlan Ahmad, 68, who was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining severe injuries while exiting the compound of Masjid Jamek Kampung Jeram.
Kampar district police chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud, said initial investigations revealed that the victim's motorcycle was struck by a Nissan lorry driven by a 25-year-old man travelling from Simpang Pulai to Bidor.
"The victim suddenly emerged from the Masjid Jamek Kampung Jeram area and was then hit by the lorry from behind.
"It is believed that he entered the main road without stopping, resulting in a collision with the lorry, which was travelling in the lane heading towards Kuala Lumpur," he said in a statement today.
Nazri added that the lorry driver was uninjured and that further investigations are underway under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The victim's body was sent to Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A video from a vehicle's dashboard camera showing the incident has since gone viral on social media. The footage captures the victim, clad in a sarong and kopiah, riding the motorcycle before being struck by the lorry.
