We asked our in-house experts for their pick to with the March Madness national champion. They didn't mince words.

It's been 10 years since Duke won it all and nearly 20 for Florida, but ultimately one team has been head and shoulders above the rest. Jon Scheyer proves he wasn't only one of the best March Madness players for the Blue Devils, but he was the proper heir to Coach K. Duke pulls away in the second half and wins the national title. Duke 80, Florida 71.
Carlos Monarrez, columnist
There was only one blowout in the Elite Eight, and it came when Cooper Flagg and the Blue Devils annihilated 2-seed Alabama, 85-65. After getting past Houston, Duke will flex its offense muscle, but also the kind of defensive dominance it showed against the Crimson Tide to stifle the Gators. Duke 92, Florida 84.
Jeff Seidel, columnist
Before March Madness began, I predicted that Duke was going to win it all; and I see no reason to change it now. Give Jon Scheyer his first national championship. Give Cooper Flagg the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award. Duke 84, Florida 81.
Chris Solari, Michigan State beat writer
The Gators' guard play keeps them in the game early, but the Blue Devils' size and skill advantage wears them down. And with Mike Krzyzewski watching from the stands, Flagg, Kon Kneuppel and Duke's ubertalented freshman class delivers Scheyer his first national championship after replacing his mentor and former coach. Duke 77, Florida 70.
Shawn Windsor, columnist
The Blue Devils are healthy, have the best player, the best combination of size and shooting, and defend like some of Mike Krzyzewski's best teams. Cooper Flagg may or may not be a superstar at the next level, but he is at this level and, in the end, makes the difference in a tense and entertaining championship game against the SEC's most talented team. Duke over Florida.

Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings

Florida basketball ranked inside the top five in The Athletic's Top 25 reset rankings The Florida Gators men's basketball team has earned a No. 5 ranking in The Athletic's updated preseason top 25, following the dust settling on the transfer portal and NBA draft decisions. In his "Top 25 Reset", college basketball analyst CJ Moore praised the Gators' size, depth and incoming transfers as key reasons for their rise. Florida's frontcourt, featuring Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu, was highlighted as a potential matchup nightmare. Also, the Gators added two major transfers in guards Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. Head coach Todd Golden's ability to reload after a national championship run was also commended. Moore emphasized the Gators' up-tempo offensive style and potential for further growth from players like Haugh and Condon as central to Florida's championship hopes. The Gators are the highest-ranked SEC program in the rankings, ahead of teams like the Kentucky Wildcats (No. 9) and Auburn Tigers (No. 10). Here is everything Moore wrote about Florida basketball and why he ranked them at No. 5. What The Athletic said about Florida "Big is back: Last season's best teams had positional size and elite paint protection. Florida could play a giant lineup that features Thomas Haugh (6-9), Alex Condon (6-11) and Rueben Chinyelu (6-10) up front. Those three played together only three possessions last season, per CBB Analytics, but it'll be hard to justify bringing one of them off the bench, considering Haugh's performance in the NCAA Tournament and the inexperience of the other wing options. That big lineup could also help mask some defensive limitations of Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee. "Florida's up-tempo style should help Fland prove he can be a more efficient player than he was under John Calipari. The Gators will contend for another title if Fland and Lee are productive and if Haugh and Condon continue to gain confidence in their playmaking and scoring abilities. They'll be expected to perform more like stars and take some of the heat off perimeter guys who cannot be expected to replicate the production of Walter Clayton." The Athletic's top five college basketball teams The Athletic ranked the Purdue Boilermakers as the top team in the country, followed by the Houston Cougars, UConn Huskies, Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators to round out the top five. Florida football could soar past preseason projected win totals for 2025 campaign

Florida football could soar past preseason projected win totals for 2025 campaign Florida football exceeded expectations in 2024 by snapping a three-season sub-.500 streak with an 8-5 finish that included its first bowl game win since 2019. This all came against one of the toughest schedules among all FBS schools. The Gators once again face a brutal gauntlet of games that will be hard, if not harder than what they battled through last fall. However, unlike years past, the national sports media is beginning to show some confidence in Billy Napier's rebuilding of UF's gridiron gang. CBS Sports writer Brad Crawford put together a list featuring one team from each major conference that he expects to exceed preseason win expectations. His choice for the Southeastern Conference was the Orange and Blue, which is projected for a 7.5-win season (per FanDuel) in 2025. Key factor: Surviving a treacherous first-half slate that includes three preseason top-10 opponents "Oddsmakers haven't had enough of the DJ Lagway hype, yet? It would grow exponentially in the coming months if the Gators are a surprise challenger near the top of the SEC," Crawford begins. "One of the nation's hottest quarterbacks to finish the 2024 season, Lagway played an integral role in Gators wins over LSU, Ole Miss and Tulane to end the campaign. And when taking into account some of the impact skill players Florida signed in its 2025 class, Billy Napier's fourth roster in Gainesville should be his best when paired with four returning offensive linemen," he continues. "Shemar James, Jason Marshall, Des Watson and Jack Pyburn are the only noticeable losses in the starting lineup defensively for new coordinator Vinnie Sunseri, a former safety at Alabama tasked with fixing issues on the back end. Sunseri should be able to get the most out of Florida's depth in the secondary, an area that previously held the team back. It's easy to identify why many outlets have Florida comfortably inside the top 25. This win total seems low for a team with lofty expectations," Crawford concludes.
