Dodgers install protective netting under spot where concrete chunk fell on fan

LOS ANGELES — Protective netting had been installed Saturday morning where a fan said he was hit with a falling chunk of concrete during a Friday night game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium. The netting covered an approximately two-foot section that comprises the top deck at the stadium. The concrete underneath was craggy and displayed cracks. The incident happened in Section 10 reserve, an area approximately between home plate and first base. Advertisement Dodger Stadium is 63 years old. 'We are aware of the report. We cannot say anything more until we have all of the information, which we are currently gathering,' the team said in a statement Friday night. It hadn't immediately responded to a new request for comment Saturday morning. A Yankees fan said he was hit with a piece of falling concrete while sitting in his seat at Dodger Stadium tonight. The concrete hit him in the back and he was still in some pain after getting medical attention. READ: — Brendan Kuty 🧟‍♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) May 31, 2025 The fan — Ricardo Aquino from Mexico City — told The Athletic a hunk of concrete hit him in the back while he was sitting in his seat. Aquino said he was in some pain, but that the concrete hadn't caused bleeding. Several fans in the area said they also saw the concrete fall and hit him. After the incident, he was visited by security and a police officer, who took the concrete piece with him. Then medical personnel visited with Aquino, who later returned to his seat with an ice pack and stayed for the rest of the game. No other fans reported injuries. Lewis Loy of Wilmington, Calif., told The Athletic he watched the concrete fall and hit Aquino. 'Me personally, to see some rocks fall like that,' Loy said, 'I would be clearing out this whole area. How do you know it's not going to fall anymore? … It could have hit a kid.' In April 1998, a concrete beam fell in Yankee Stadium, forcing the team to cancel two games and play another at Shea Stadium. No fans were in the stands at the time, and nobody was injured. Orioles place 1B Ryan Mountcastle on the injured list with a hamstring strain

BALTMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed Ryan Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Saturday, a day after the first baseman left in the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox with discomfort. Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Mountcastle had an MRI. 'Just hopeful that it's not too bad,' Mansolino said. Mountcastle, who is hitting .246 with two homers and 15 RBIs, is the second Orioles player in as many days to go on the injured list with a hamstring strain after Cedric Mullins did so Friday. Mountcastle is one of five players from Baltimore's opening day lineup who are currently on the injured list, joining Mullins, outfielders Colton Cowser and Tyler O'Neill, and infielder Jordan Westburg. Both Cowser and Westburg are currently on rehabilitation assignments at Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles recalled infielder Coby Mayo from Norfolk to take Mountcastle's roster spot. Mansolino said Mayo, who was in Baltimore's lineup Saturday as the designated hitter, could see time at first base. Baltimore also selected the contract of outfielder Jordyn Adams from Norfolk and designated catcher Chadwick Tromp for assignment. ___ AP MLB:

Mariners promote infield prospect Cole Young

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners promoted infield prospect Cole Young from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of their game against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. Right-hander Bryce Miller was also reinstated from the 15-day injured list and is expected to start. Infielder Leo Rivas and right-hander Casey Legumina were optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in corresponding moves. The Mariners also designated right-hander Will Klein for assignment. Young, 21, was a No. 21 overall pick in the 2022 MLB amateur draft and was the Mariners' No. 3 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, at the time of his promotion. He was off to a solid start to the year in the Pacific Coast League. For the season, Young was hitting .277 with an .853 OPS for the Rainiers. In May, though, Young was particularly excellent, hitting .366 with a .467 on-base percentage, as well as 10 doubles, three triples and five home runs. ___ AP MLB:
