Mayor Arceneaux to attend ‘Caddo Day' at Louisiana State Capitol
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux will travel to Baton Rouge this week to take part in Caddo Day at the state Capitol, joining around 70 local leaders and officials from both the city and parish.
The goal is to share North Louisiana's priorities with state lawmakers and advocate for key legislation.
Among the top issues on the agenda is a proposed state law targeting unlawful occupancy. If passed, individuals would have to demonstrate they have a legal right to be there, reversing the current assumption that someone can remain unless asked to leave.

Shreveport has already implemented a similar ordinance that went into effect on April 3. Mayor Arceneaux says police have conducted over 50 property checks and made seven arrests related to unlawful occupancy. Officers plan to refine their approach moving forward to better identify and remove squatters during early-morning operations.
The mayor is also reminding residents of an upcoming deadline to apply for the city's summer internship programs. Applications are due this Friday. College students who are sophomores or above are eligible to apply for the Mayor's Internship Program, while high school students through college freshmen can apply through the Department of Community Development. Both applications are available on the City of Shreveport website.
Mayor Arceneaux also addressed last week's SporTran bus explosion, describing the outcome as a 'miracle.' Thanks to the quick thinking and training of the bus driver, all passengers were safely evacuated before the explosion. The mayor praised both the driver and SporTran leadership for their calm, effective response in what could have been a deadly situation.

Federal agencies come to Texarkana to provide in-person storm recovery aid 'We're doing town halls across the state to help educate people about the Arkansas Legislature, which just adjourned, about all the new laws that they passed and educating people about how their legislators voted on some of those key bills that came up,' said Bill Kopsky, Executive Director of the Arkansas Public Policy Panel, who organized the event along with Citizens First Congress. 'Our view is that if you're in a community that's 60% black and the school staff doesn't look like that, then that's an issue that the school district should be able to at least talk about,' said Kopsky. Changes coming to downtown Texarkana in the name of pedestrian safety Looking to the future, they hope to find support for securing access to ballot measures after several new laws were passed that make the process more difficult. 'I mean it's been in the Arkansas constitution for over 100 years. Arkansans have used it to do really important things that legislators just aren't capable of doing, so like passing ethics and term limit laws, for example, or campaign finance reform laws, or raising the state's minimum wage. Those are issues that politicians are never going to really take much action on, but they're not very controversial with the public,' said Kopsky. They say the main purpose of these town halls is to keep citizens engaged in the political process. Shreveport wanted suspect assaults male in convenience store

(KTAL/KMSS) — Authorities are searching for a white male involved in an assault at a convenience store located in the 1400 block of Hollywood Avenue in Shreveport. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office reported that a white male attacked a Hispanic male at a local convenience store. The suspect approached the victim from behind and punched him once while he was on the phone. Ark-La-Tex most wanted Investigators said that the suspect may have fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV. The Hispanic male sustained severe facial trauma and was transported to the LSU Health Science Center. Runaway Juvenile: Shreveport Police Seek local teen
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)— The Shreveport police department is asking for the public's help in locating a runaway juvenile. More Local News Elijah Henderson, a 16-year-old Black male, was last seen at a family member's residence in the 1600 block of Dickinson Street after 4:00 p.m. on May 28, 2025. Elijah is around 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs around 145 pounds. He also has a tattoo on his right forearm that says 'Elijah' in calligraphy. Elijah was wearing a gray t-shirt, a gray tank top, dark-colored jeans, black shoes, and a black hoodie at the time of his disappearance. He was also carrying a black backpack.
