Squid Game season 3 release date approaches: Check plot, cast, recap and everything you need to know
As the final season of Squid Game prepares to drop on Netflix, anticipation is at an all-time high. After two intense installments filled with brutal competitions and emotional betrayals, the third and concluding chapter of the globally acclaimed South Korean survival series will officially premiere on June 27. The new season, described as the 'beginning of the end,' brings closure to the gripping journey of Gi-hun, the lone survivor of Season 1, as he confronts the forces behind the deadly game once and for all.
Recap: Where Season 2 Left Off
Season 2 followed Gi-hun three years after his win in the original game. Haunted by guilt and determined to take down the operation, he aborts plans to move to the U.S. and instead uses his prize money to secretly track The Salesman. Meanwhile, Jun-ho, the detective from Season 1 who was thought to be dead, resurfaces with a new lead on the island's location. The two join forces in a mission to expose the truth.
A major plot twist reveals that Captain Park, an ally to Jun-ho, is actually a mole working for the Front Man. In a heartbreaking climax, Gi-hun's rebellion inside the game is crushed. The Front Man, posing once again as a fellow contestant, kills Gi-hun's trusted friend Jung-bae, leaving him emotionally shattered.

The post-credits scene hinted at the next round of games—this time with the appearance of a male doll named Cheol-su, paired with the iconic Young-hee from Season 1's 'Red Light, Green Light.' It set the stage for what is promised to be the most intense chapter yet.
What to Expect in Season 3
Season 3 picks up immediately after the failed rebellion. Gi-hun returns to the arena, now more emotionally broken than ever. According to the official synopsis, he continues his pursuit to end the game while the Front Man makes his next move. The remaining contestants find themselves caught in even deadlier challenges, where each decision brings increasingly severe consequences.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed this will be the last season. He said the story will focus on what Gi-hun becomes when all previous efforts fall apart. This season is expected to delve deeper into both the psychological toll and power struggles within the game.
Cast: Who's Returning for the Final Season?
Given the series' high fatality rate, only a few characters are returning:

Sivaji Ganesan's family settles loan dispute over Annai Illam house
Chennai: Actor Sivaji Ganesan's family has informed the Madras high court that they have reached a settlement in his grandson Dushyanth's loan dispute case. As a result, Danabhakiyam Enterprises, which earlier sought to seize Sivaji's 'Annai Illam' residence, has now withdrawn its appeal. Dushyanth borrowed ₹3 crore from Danabhakiyam Enterprises to produce a film titled 'Jagajala Killadi'. The company filed a case in the high court demanding repayment of ₹9 crore, including interest. Based on an HC directive, the matter was taken up for arbitration. The arbitrator, after hearing the case, ordered that all rights to the film 'Jagajala Killadi' be transferred to Danabhakiyam Enterprises. Following this, Danabhakiyam Enterprises filed a petition seeking enforcement of the order and also requested the seizure of 'Annai Illam' residence. Justice Abdul Quddhose, who heard the petition, ordered the seizure of the 'Annai Illam' house. However, actor Prabhu (Sivaji Ganesan's son) filed a petition stating that the house legally belonged to him as it was willed to him by his father, Sivaji Ganesan. He requested that the seizure order be cancelled. After reviewing the petition, Justice Abdul Quddhose ruled that Prabhu is the rightful owner of the 'Annai Illam' house and revoked the seizure order. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Danabhakiyam Enterprises appealed this decision, and the case came up for hearing before Chief Justice KR Shriram and Justice Sundar Mohan.
