St Helens street evacuated after explosives found in home
A street was evacuated after several explosives were found at the house of man who had died.Police said they had attended the home of a man aged in his 60s in St Helens, Merseyside, when the "explosive ordnance" was found.They said one item was found before several more were uncovered.Chadwick Road was evacuated and closed as a precaution, with accommodation and support made available at Chain Lane Community Centre.
A bomb disposal team attended to carry a safe detonation in an open space in the area, Merseyside Police added.Motorists and pedestrians were advised to avoid the road while emergency services dealt with the incident.Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.They did not detail the precise nature of the explosives.

Beverley jewellery store boss took selfies with stolen diamonds
A luxury store manager who stole almost £125,000 worth of jewellery was caught after she sent photographs of herself "dripping in diamonds" to her former colleagues, police have Roberts, of Mill Road, Swanland, East Yorkshire, stole diamonds, silver and gold from a jewellery shop in Beverley that she ran between 1 October 2017 and 27 December Police said she was arrested at Heathrow Airport as she returned from holiday wearing "a substantial amount of stolen jewellery". The 39-year-old was jailed for 28 months at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to theft by an employee at a previous hearing in April. Staff at the store had questioned why Roberts was taking jewellery home but she had told them not to worry as she was working and sorting stock for the workshop, detectives the theft, she quit her job and jetted off on holiday before flashing the stolen goods to staff members and on social Sgt Krista Wilkinson said: "Without a care in the world, dripping in diamonds, thinking she had deceived everybody, Roberts arrogantly sent pictures boasting to her ex-colleagues about the great time she was having on holiday, not thinking they would realise what she had been doing."From the photos she sent colleagues you could clearly see the high value and unique pieces that she was wearing which she had not purchased whilst working for the store." An investigation was launched after police were contacted by the retailer which had found Roberts had made a number of fraudulent return transactions and falsified stock a search of Roberts' house, officers found 269 items with a value of £107,965. When she was arrested, Roberts was wearing a further £1,015 of stolen items and carrying a further £13,880 worth in her worn police footage of Roberts' arrest showed her removing the jewellery as she was escorted through the airport in a bid to dispose of it, the force denied the allegations to police, saying she had borrowed some of the jewellery from a former colleague and claimed they had "planted the rest" in her suitcase. But she gave no explanation why her own jewellery was mixed with the stolen items, the force added. Carlisle woman in court over attempted murder of two police officers

A mother described as an 'adrenaline junkie' died on her first skydive - alongside her instructor - when their parachute failed to open as expected, an inquest has heard. Skydive instructor Adam Harrison and Belinda Taylor, who was strapped to him on her first jump, died when the parachute failed to open and they crashed to the ground. Senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney said they died from multiple injuries, with their bodies found in a field near the Dunkeswell airfield in east Devon on June 13. The Exeter hearing was told mum of four Belinda, 48, was taking part in a tandem parachute jump when she and her instructor exited the aircraft for the freefall jump. Mr Spinney said: 'The parachute did not open as expected and they died as a consequence of the injuries sustained in the fall.' He said investigations into the deaths continue and the inquests were adjourned. Mr Spinney said London-born Belinda, of Totnes, Devon, was divorced, partially sighted and not employed. He said 30-year-old Adam, of Bournemouth, was a single student and a skydiving instructor by occupation. The couple had jumped from 15,000ft when the incident happened. Belinda was described by friends as an 'adrenaline junkie' and had been bought the skydive by her partner Scott Armstrong. A British Skydiving Board of Inquiry is investigating the accident alongside the police, council and Civil Aviation Authority. The coroner adjourned the hearings to a later date as inquiries continue.
