EASTERN CAPE - The Eastern Cape government says it's planning contingency measures for millions of people grappling with poverty.

This comes after a recent Stats SA General Household Survey showed nearly 90% of public school-attending pupils are dependent on the school's nutritional programme and 65% of households are dependent on social grants.
A family of seven from Ndabakazi says it is living proof of the dire situation experienced by many households.
