Windsor Spitfires Forwards Liam Greentree, Ilya Protas, and AJ Spellacy Recalled To AHL
Windsor Spitfires forwards Liam Greentree, AJ Spellacy, and Ilya Protas are headed to the AHL after the Spitfires were eliminated in the second round of the OHL playoffs.
Greentree will join the Ontario Reign, Spellacy the Rockford IceHogs, and Protas the two-time defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears.

Protas was second in OHL scoring and led the Spitfires in goals (50) and points (124) in 61 games this season before adding five goals and 20 assists in 12 playoff games.
A third round selection of the Capitals in 2024, Ilya is the younger brother of Washington forward Alexei Protas.
Spellacy notched 18 goals and 37 points in 62 games this season and three points in five playoff games before suffering an injury.
The 19-year-old was a third round selection of the Blackhawks in 2024.
Greentree recorded 49 goals and 119 points in 64 games this season, finishing third in OHL scoring. He had 14 goals and 24 points in 11 playoff games.

The captain of the Spitfires for the last two seasons, Greentree was selected 26th overall by the Kings in the 2024 draft.
The Reign are down 1-0 and the IceHogs are up 1-0 in their respective best-of-three first round matchups while the Bears have a bye into the Atlantic Division Semifinals.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact each player will have in the Calder Cup playoffs but given their great combination of size and skill it would not be surprising to see Greentree and Protas play meaningful minutes. Spellacy will be an interesting decision given the injury he dealt with throughout the OHL playoffs.

NHL 26 Be A Pro Trailer Breakdown
EA SPORTS NHL has released the first deep dive trailer for NHL 26's revamped Be A Pro mode, we break down what is new below. As previously mentioned, the pricey pond hockey introduction that has been a long running joke in the community has been removed. Be A Pro careers will begin with a new starting point, the semi-finals of the World Junior Hockey Championship. The Memorial Cup can still be played before your draft. Players must prove themselves in pre-season, and can be sent to the AHL. Players can spend the entire season in the AHL and win the Calder Cup, complete with a trophy celebration. A players performance will impact progression and line promotion. Multiple new cutscenes and cinematics have been added, as well as voice actors for the first time in NHL franchise history. These cutscenes include the NHL draft, entering the dressing room for the first time, tunnel walkouts, and Stanley Cup Finals celebrations. These cinematics include new facial animations and emotions. Be A Pro will feature less conversations than previous games, with each conversation having more consequences on your relationship with your brand, teammates, or management. New media scrums will have on and off ice impacts. The revamp to NHL 26's X-Factor system will allow players to emphasize certain traits and playstyles, shaping your character to your liking. The Be A Pro HUB has also received a facelift, pictured below. There were no specific mentions of updates to the contract negotiation process in NHL 26 so it will be interesting to see how that is handled. Using some metrics from PlayStation trophy tacker and from Thrash it is evident how popular the Be A Pro mode is within NHL games and how much time players dedicate. These changes shown in the trailer are great on the surface, lets hope ICE-Q 2.0 along with these updates allows for a fresh Be A Pro experience. NHL 26 is set to release Sept. 12, those who pre-order the deluxe edition get access Sept. 5. Former Devils Defenseman Signs With New Team
A former New Jersey Devils third-round pick has taken his game overseas. Defenseman Reilly Walsh has signed overseas, per his agent Matt Keator. The 26-year-old has signed a contract with the Barys Astana of the KHL after five seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL). He most recently played for the Ontario Reign, where he collected 32 points in 70 games.

Top NHL Draft Prospect Adam Valentini Not To Honor OHL Commitment With Kitchener
Sour news hit the Kitchener Rangers organization, losing a high-end player just before training camp starts. The organization released a statement from GM Mike McKenzie via their official X account announcing that forward Adam Valentini will not honor his commitment to the team. Valentini left the Chicago Steel of the USHL to sign with the Rangers ahead of the upcoming season back on Jun. 5. 'I was informed today by the agent for Adam Valentini that Adam has chosen to revoke his commitment to play this season for the Kitchener Rangers and will instead be going to the University of Michigan,' said McKenzie via the statement. Valentini was originally drafted by the Brampton Steelheads 13th overall in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. He was regarded as a top-three pick but fell down the board due to his commitment to the NCAA. The Rangers acquired the rights to Valentini on Sept. 5, 2024, in exchange for four draft picks. Kitchener getting the Toronto, Ontario, native to commit before heading to Michigan was arguably one of the most exciting signings of this off-season. He's a projected first-round pick for the upcoming 2026 NHL draft and had the potential to play a top-six role in the OHL, further elevating his draft stock. However, revoking your commitment one week before training camp starts isn't a great look. Kingston Frontenacs Bolster Blueline With Top-Four Defenseman Jack Brauti We are just under two weeks away from the start of the 2025 OHL preseason. Training camps are just around the corner, and the Kingston Frontenacs recognized the need to add a top-four defenseman to their lineup ahead of the 2025-26 season. Valentini's agent is Darren Ferris, who is known to be a tough negotiator. Ferris would've helped push his client to fast-track his education so he could play in the NCAA a year early.
