Omagh: Woman's body discovered after car fire
Independent councillor Josephine Deehan, told BBC Radio Ulster's Good Morning Ulster programme that the "tragic and horrific situation" has left the local community "really shocked, greatly saddened and indeed disturbed".

She commended the emergency services for attending to the "harrowing situation" and echoed their call for information from the public as she said the community want to have answers "pretty quickly" to end the speculation.
SDLP assembly member Daniel McCrossan described the incident as "deeply disturbing".The West Tyrone MLA said the death has "shocked the local community". "My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the person who has so tragically lost their life", he added."It is heartbreaking that someone has died in such harrowing circumstances. People in the area are understandably anxious and looking for answers."It is critical that anyone with information – no matter how small – reports it to the PSNI."

PSNI say death of woman (30s) found beside burning car not believed to be suspicious
The remains were discovered in the Rylagh Road area of Omagh on Saturday. A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "The person who died following a vehicle fire outside Omagh on Saturday afternoon, 2nd August, has been confirmed as a female in her 30s. 'A post-mortem has concluded and family has been informed. At this stage, her death is not believed to be suspicious.' Ms Deehan said: "There is very distressing news from Omagh over the weekend and sadly appears to be that a woman has lost her life in a fire, which involved a car in the Rylagh Road. "As this tragedy unfolds, our main thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this time, in lieu of the horrific circumstances of this woman's death. "They are in our thoughts and prayers. "Our community is deeply shocked, that this has happened in a tranquil rural area. "We don't know the full detail surrounding the case. Police are confident they are dealing with arson. "I hope that we will have answers soon for the family in particular, and the community who are horrified and distressed. "It is a very tragic situation, and police are appealing to the public for any information.' PSNI officers and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene shortly after 2pm on Saturday, where they found a silver Mitsubishi Lancer GS2 on fire. The blaze was extinguished by the fire service. In an earlier statement the PSNI said it was working to ascertain how the victim came to be next to the burning car. 'As fire officers extinguished the blaze they discovered that, tragically, a person had died as a result of the fire,' said Detective Inspector Keon. 'We are treating this fire as arson, and our enquiries as to how the person came to be beside the vehicle are ongoing. 'We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area between midday and 2.15pm yesterday, who may have noticed anything suspicious, to contact us. 'We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who had dashcam or other footage and would also like to hear from anyone who may have noticed this particular vehicle.'

The boxer whose punches stopped Princess Anne 's kidnapper has told of his outrage after the offender was set free, saying: 'I should have hit him harder.' Ronnie 'The Geezer' Russell, 77, was speaking of his anger over the release from Broadmoor Hospital of 'very dangerous' Ian Ball. The Daily Mail revealed on Saturday that Ball, also 77, had quietly been freed, despite remaining unrepentant for the March 1974 night when he shot four men on The Mall in London, near Buckingham Palace. Happy to kill in his quest to hold Princess Anne, then 23, for a £3milllion ransom from the Queen, the loner had not reckoned with 6ft 2in, 17 stone Mr Russell, driving past. The former boxer was undeterred by Ball's threats to shoot, and punched him three times over a terrifying few minutes, before police arrived mob-handed and bundled the kidnapper to the ground. Now Ball is not only free but staging a bizarre intensifying campaign to have his conviction overturned, publishing a book as well as flying to Barbados and Japan on holiday with saved benefits money. Living in a west London hostel, he claims the kidnap was a 'hoax' despite admitting attempting to murder two policemen and the kidnap plot at the Old Bailey in May 1974. Last night Mr Russell - who five years ago had to sell the bravery medal he was awarded - told the Daily Mail: 'I can't believe Ball's been released, it's ridiculous.' 'I should have hit him a bit harder. Am I worried he might come and find me? Let's go further - give him my address, and I'll go one better this time. 'He's saying now 'None of it ever happened, there was supposed to be no gunpowder in the bullets'? It's absolutely impossible, because it did happen. 'He didn't come out with all that when he was sentenced at the Old Bailey - I was there, watching him plead guilty. He should be recalled to Broadmoor.' Mr Russell was aged 28 and driving a cleaning firm van down The Mall when he saw the bloody chaos erupting around Princess Anne's Royal limousine, broken glass everywhere. Ball had a gun in each hand, and was using them. Thinking, as he later said, 'That's a liberty - he needs sorting', Mr Russell ran over and punched Ball in the head, but it was a glancing blow because the gunman was turning to fire at him, his resulting shot smashing a taxi windscreen. Mr Russell ran to the other side of the limousine. Mr Russell said last night: 'I was lifting Princess Anne out of the car by her forearms, saying 'Now we're going walk away, and he's going to have to go through me to get to you' I was a big lad. 'But Ball came round the car, and her husband Captain Mark Phillips pulled her back in. When I turned, he was stood there with his gun pointed at me (he'd broken a car window with the other one, and it was on the floor), shouting 'Come on Anne, you've got to come'. 'That's when I decided it was going to be me, or him. I had to hit him first, and harder. 'I was quite prepared to sacrifice myself for a member of the Royal Family.' Mr Russell's final pair of massive punches did the trick - 'I think I would have knocked a tree down' - and Ball began 45 years in Rampton then Broadmoor secure mental hospitals. Ball paid thousands to publish his 'autobiographical novel' To Kill a Princess through London-based self-publishing company Publish Nation Limited, owned by David and Gwendolyn Morrison. Mr Russell said: 'When Ball was put away "at Her Majesty's pleasure" we were all sure he'd never be out. I can't see any reason why he's been released, why a publishing company agreed to print his autobiography - or how come he's had benefits to save the money to go to Barbados. 'I'm going to Barbados later this year, but that's because I worked for it. I had to sell my medal. He's been mollycoddled, and it's been too easy for him.' In 1974 Londoner Mr Russell, who since retired to the west country, was invited to Buckingham Palace to be decorated. Royal bodyguard James Beaton, shot three times, was awarded the George Cross, journalist Brian McConnell and Anne's chauffeur Alex Callender, both shot in the chest, the Queen's Gallantry medal - and PC Michael Hills, shot in the stomach, and Mr Russell both got the George Medal. Mr Russell, a youthful acquaintance of the gangster Kray twins, remembered: 'The Queen went 'This medal thanks you as the Queen of England - I want to thank you as Anne's mother.' That was a touching moment.'

A VILE perv who flashed two boys, aged 4 and 6, in Morrisons when their mum turned her back has left the youngsters traumatised. The man exposed himself to the two brothers in the supermarket in Leicester and even urged the four-year-old to keep quiet. 1 The shocking incident happened at a Morrisons Daily on March 26 when the boys' mother stopped at the store before dropping her sons at school. She then saw Joshua Yorke acting suspiciously and worried he might be a shoplifter. The concerned mum went to speak to a member of staff but noticed the creep walk past her four-year-old son and saw him "messing with his trousers" before walking on. She also saw Yorke put his fingers to his lips to indicate to the boy to stay quiet. When the boy's older brother joined him in the same aisle in the supermarket and Yorke turned around and exposed himself to both boys. Leicester Crown Court heard the siblings immediately became upset following the horror and told their mother what had happened. She began shouting at Yorke, kicking him after he ignored her and walked towards the exit to flee. After he left the shop, a passer-by volunteered to hunt Yorke down while the mum stayed with her traumatised sons. He followed the perv to a shopping centre and kept his eyes on him until police arrived and arrested him. My younger son has started mimicking the man, pulling his trousers down and telling people to shush. "I hope this man realises it has had a very real impact on my family and how we feel. I can't get over the fact I was not able to protect their innocence." Errol Ballantyne, representing Yorke, said his client had a mental age much younger than his 23 years. He said: "This is in many ways a sad case. If the authorities had been more proactive he might have been receiving help - he's a young man with severe learning difficulties. "The defendant's mother was an alcoholic and the defendant was a premature delivery and it was clear from birth there were difficulties. "Mr Yorke is thoroughly ashamed of what he did and is very remorseful. He would like support to control his urges towards underaged children." Recorder Jacob Hallam KC, sentencing Yorke, told him: "You went into that shop and encountered a mother and her two young children. "You were wearing your jacket with the hood up and you approached them and you fiddled with your trousers while close to them. "Their heads were around the level of your groin. Both of them were upset, particularly the younger one, and have continued to be upset since then. "This was a confusing and upsetting experience for them to have to endure." Yorke, of Bridlespur Way, Mowmacre Hill, was given an 18-month community order with 26 sessions of a course designed to rehabilitate sex offenders and a further 10 days on programmes recommended by the Probation Service. He will have to let the police know where he is living for the next five years and was also made subject to a three-year sexual harm prevention order, banning him from contact with children and making other restrictions.
