"Remember October 7": Donald Trump Says Hamas Cannot Be Allowed To Remain In Gaza

Trump evoked the traumatic events of the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack
US President Donald Trump has reiterated his firm stance on Hamas' continued presence in the Gaza Strip, stating that the group 'cannot be allowed to stay" in the territory. Speaking to Axios on Monday, Trump evoked the traumatic events of the October 2023 terrorist attack as a stark reminder of the threat posed by the group.
'I have one thing to say: remember October 7, remember October 7," Trump told Axios , referencing the attack that claimed the lives of more than 1,200 people in Israel and resulted in the kidnapping of approximately 250 others. The incident marked the beginning of a prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has now extended for nearly two years and drawn in multiple Arab nations in the region.
Trump confirmed that he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. The two leaders reportedly discussed Israel's ongoing military operations in Gaza, including plans for an invasion of Gaza City. The US President said he believes military pressure is the most effective way to dismantle Hamas.
'It was always going to be very rough to get them out," Trump acknowledged while talking about hostages under the control of Hamas. He added, '[Hamas] are not going to let the hostages out in the current situation," expressing scepticism about the likelihood of their release through diplomacy alone.
Trump also endorsed Israel's approach, stating that he would not interfere and would allow the country to proceed with its plans.

Netanyahu, however, has come under growing international criticism over his government's plans to evacuate Gaza City and impose military control over the Strip. His push for a full occupation has raised humanitarian concerns and drawn sharp condemnation from global leaders.
In recent developments, Australia has joined a number of countries in expressing support for recognising Palestinian statehood. The move is seen as an attempt to pressure Israel into addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and returning to ceasefire negotiations. Meanwhile, Germany has announced it will halt arms exports to Israel that could be used in operations targeting civilians in Gaza. Several other nations are reportedly reviewing their military and diplomatic ties with Israel in response to the ongoing crisis. view comments News world "Remember October 7": Donald Trump Says Hamas Cannot Be Allowed To Remain In Gaza Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. How India and US can find a way to ride out a 'perfect storm'
How India and US can find a way to ride out a 'perfect storm' Sachin Parasher TNN Aug 12, 2025, 12:14 IST There's too much at stake for both to jeopardise a relationship that's important for global growth, India's development and US' own interests US President Donald Trump's vicious targeting of India over trade, coupled with his bizarre courting of Pakistan, marks a dramatic fall in the India-US relationship from the heady days of the nuclear understanding both sides reached in 2005, ending decades of technology denial to India and boosting its energy security, while allowing it to retain a credible minimum deterrent. Bipartisan support ensured that this understanding that culminated in the nuclear deal – signalling India's arrival as a global player just when China's coercive actions were creating ripples in the West – stayed its course. There have been minor blips like the standoff over the strip search of an Indian diplomat in 2013 and the recent spat over a murder-for-hire plot involving Indian government agents but the overall trajectory of the relationship remained unaffected.

US designates Balochistan Liberation Army and Majeed Brigade as Foreign Terrorist Organizations
The United States, on Monday (Aug 11), officially designated the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its alias, The Majeed Brigade, as Foreign Terrorist Organisations (FTOs). BLA was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in 2019 following numerous terrorist attacks. Since then, BLA has claimed responsibility for additional attacks, including by the Majeed Brigade, the US State Department said in a statement. It said that the move reflects 'the Trump Administration's commitment to countering terrorism'. 'Terrorist designations play a critical role in our fight against this scourge and are an effective way to curtail support for terrorist activities,' the statement said. 'Today's actions are taken pursuant to section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended, and Executive Order 13224, as amended. FTO designations go into effect upon publication in the Federal Register,' it added. In 2024, BLA asserted involvement in suicide bombings near Karachi airport and the Gwadar Port Authority Complex. Most recently, in March 2025, the BLA claimed responsibility for hijacking the Jaffar Express train travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, killing 31 civilians and security personnel and holding hostage over 300 train passengers. Last month, the US Department of State designated The Resistance Front (TRF) as a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). TRF, a proxy outfit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility of the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in India, which killed 26 people, including tourists. 'TRF and other associated aliases have been added to LeT's designation as a FTO and SDGT pursuant to section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, respectively. The Department of State has also reviewed and maintained the FTO designation of LeT. Amendments to FTO designations go into effect upon publication in the Federal Register,' the state department said in a statement.
