Cookbooks on their way out as the nation gets its recipes from TikTok

A glossy hard-back cookbook is deemed too extravagant and expensive by the youth of today who prefer TikTok - and lots of them have never heard of Beef Wellington
Cookbooks could soon be a thing of the past as younger generations believe they are outdated.
Flicking through gravy-stained pages of recipe books by chefs such as Delia Smith could one day be a distant memory.

New findings have shown 88% of youngsters get recipe ideas from social media sites such as Tik Tok. Some 38% of people in their twenties said they didn't own a cookbook, while 56% said all the recipes they need are online.

Findings by Mozzarella makers Galbani showed 36% believe they are too expensive when recipes are free on the internet.
TikTok, Instagram, parents and food websites were the go-to destinations for what and how to cook. And traditional recipes are also dying out, with 42% admitting they have never heard of Beef Wellington.
Fish pie, souffle and Coq au Vin were also dishes youngsters didn't know how to make.
Galbani said they have been replaced by foods such as burger bowls, pizza soup, marry me chicken - a viral creamy casserole, watermelon and burrata salad, big mac tacos, cucumber salad and vodka pasta.
They said: "As many as 90 percent think modern Brits are more adventurous with their food than previous generations."

Two UK pennies worth more than £2,600 if they have this tiny mark

These coins are highly sought-after by collectors due to an initial found on one side An expert has urged Brits to look out for two old pennies that could be worth over £2,600 combined. These pre-decimal coins are no longer in circulation but could be hiding away in an attic or coin jar. However, these pieces are only especially valuable if they feature two tiny letters. This mark will make them highly sought-after by collectors. ‌ In a video uploaded to social media platform TikTok, an expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard, said: 'Thousands of pounds if you have either a 1918 or 1919 old UK penny with this mint mark. ‌ 'As you will be aware if you follow me, there are many pre-decimal pennies from the UK that have some crazy values, but it all depends on the date.' But you need to check for the initials 'KN' on both coins to be sure they are collectable. 'Today we discuss the 1919 KN penny, KN meaning King's Norton Mint,' he continued. 'Of the two mints, the King's Norton is by far the most difficult to get.' Rather than being produced at the Royal Mint like most coins in the UK, these were created at the King's Norton Mint in Birmingham. At the time this company was contracted to help keep up with demand for coins. The expert gave more details: 'The obverse [head side] shows a portrait of King George the Fifth by Australian sculptor Bertram MacKennal. George the Fifth was king of the United Kingdom and the British dominions and Emperor of India from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936. 'The reverse [tail side} shows Britannia seated with trident and shield. It is the same as other pennies of that era with the exception of the KN mint mark.' ‌ It is the 'KN' mark that sets it apart. This can be spotted just under the shield held by Britannia on the tail side of the coin. However, you will need to look closely as it is very hard to see. If your coin has these letters it could be worth an incredible £2,000 or more. 'If you are lucky enough to find the 1919 KN penny then it may surprise you that this coin can sell for over £2,000 depending on condition,' he said. The expert then showed an image of the 1918 KN penny. He added: 'Now as with a lot of these coins, the value very much depends on the condition of the coin. A good grade 1918 KN penny can be over £30, but as the condition increases, such as an extra fine version, you would be looking at over £600.'

This glam Miami spot was just named one of the World's Most Beautiful Restaurants

Japón at The Setai has officially landed on the Prix Versailles 2025 list of the World's Most Beautiful Restaurants—and if you've ever sipped a cocktail under its gold-leaf ceiling while aerialists twirled above a fountain, this news will surprise exactly no one. Tucked inside the luxe courtyard of The Setai Miami Beach, Japón is an extravagant homage to Japanese craft, interpreted with the kind of over-the-top flourish only Miami can pull off. Designed by Saladino Design Studios, the space is saturated in symbolism and maximalist beauty, anchored by the image of the crane, Japan's symbol of grace and good fortune. A custom mosaic crane greets guests at the entrance and the motif ripples through fabrics, murals and a towering pagoda out back. The moody dining room is layered with temple-style ceilings, glossy green-blue paneling and woodblock prints from the 1800s, giving the feeling of the salon of a globe-trotting art collector. One room is sectioned off by a hand-painted, gold-foiled glass mural, while another glows beneath a gold-leaf ceiling and vintage paintings. Even the bar gets the star treatment, with marble ribs and custom wallpaper. Add a retractable roof and you've got one of the most striking indoor-outdoor dining environments in the city. As for what's on the plate, chefs Vijayudu Veena and Iván Monzón deliver an Asian-fusion lineup with hits like truffle hot pot, miso salmon, hamachi crudo and tuna pizza on a crispy wonton base. And yes, those illuminated fan dancers and acrobats you saw on TikTok are real. They perform above the decorative pool, giving new meaning to 'dinner and a show.' Though the food leans more pan-Asian than personal, Japón is a vibe—and that's exactly what the Prix Versailles awards. The list, which includes just 16 restaurants globally, celebrates design that feeds the senses. Whether or not Japón takes home the final global title in December, it's already a star in Miami's dining galaxy.

Meanwhile, it has been a testing few years for the former ITV treasure - as she has been left without a TV show for the first time in years. One option for the star could be a reboot of Record Breakers, which Holly's husband Dan Baldwin is already working on. There is currently no channel attached to the show, which is in its very early stages but sources say it would be a "perfect fit". A telly insider said: "Record Breakers is likely to be a prime time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. "She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly." She has also been linked to a reboot of Cilla Black's best-known show, Blind Date. The Sun told this week how the ITV classic is being revived - and in a surprise twist will go to global streaming service Disney+. Producers want to keep the tradition of a top British female host, with a shortlist also including Claudia Winkleman and Davina McCall. Sources say Holly is also being looked at for a new Channel 4 talent show, currently dubbed Secret Singers, which is searching for raw, undiscovered singing talent. Love Productions - the creators of The Great British Bake Off and The Piano - have already put out a casting call. An insider said: "This is likely to be a heartwarming and hugely popular show for all the family. "They are looking for a the perfect host to make sure it's a huge success and it could be perfect timing with Holly's break in TV."
