Court Extends Remand Order For Couple Involved In Sibu Drug Trafficking Case
SIBU, June 20 (Bernama) -- Sibu Magistrate's Court today granted an extension of the remand for a husband and wife recently arrested for allegedly masterminding a drug trafficking syndicate around Sibu.
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern allowed the 52-year-old male suspect to be remanded for seven days, while the 44-year-old female suspect would be remanded for four days to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Previously, both suspects had been remanded for seven days, which ended today.

The two individuals involved, Mohammed Farik Amin, 49, and Mohammed Nazir Lep, 48, are currently undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation process that includes social support services, welfare assistance, and health screening before being reunited with their families. Saifuddin said it was crucial for the country to have a capable IGP, such as the 14th IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who played a key role in the repatriation of the two men. He praised Razarudin's composure when engaging with various US agencies, including the CIA and FBI, in resolving the matter. Meanwhile, Saifuddin stressed that the appointment of an IGP was not an award but a responsibility and burden that must be shouldered with full accountability.

Used clothes seller acquitted, discharged of possessing drugs

KOTA KINABALU (June 20): A used clothes seller was acquitted and discharged by a Sessions Court here today from two counts of possessing cannabis and syabu. Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad freed Mohd Jamri Basir, 24, after a full trial. The first count accused Mohd Jamri of possessing 158.6 grams of cannabis at an apartment at Jalan Tuaran Bypass on May 15, 2020. The charge was under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 6 of the same Act. The second count accused him of having 6.64 grams of syabu at the same place and on the same day. The alleged offence was under Section 12 (2), punishable under Section 39A (1), both of the same Act. The prosecution commended the case on December 7, 2022 and rested it on August 15, 2024. Ten witnesses were called by the prosecution while the defence called three witnesses, including Mohd Jamri. Mohd Jamri was represented by counsel Dominic Chew Ban Huat.
