Man fined RM2,500 for resisting arrest, verbally abusing cops

SIBU (May 27): The Magistrates' Court here fined a man RM2,500 in default one month in prison after he pleaded guilty yesterday to obstructing and directing abusive language at policemen.
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern imposed the fine against Tiong Kung Chung, 28, who was charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code which provides for up to two years' imprisonment or a fine not exceeding RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
Tiong, who paid the fine, committed the offence at Jalan Pahlawan here at about 1.30am on May 23, 2025.
According to the case facts, personnel from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit were on their rounds when they encountered a woman crying behind a bank at Jalan Pahlawan.
When they approached her and asked for identification, she contacted her boyfriend Tiong who, upon arriving at the location, began hurling profanities at the policemen and also his girlfriend.
The patrolmen then requested their Mobile Patrol Vehicle counterparts for assistance to arrest Tiong, who was believed to be intoxicated at the time.
During his arrest, the accused pushed the policemen and resisted attempts to place him into the police vehicle.
