GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) in Penang confiscated 100 "Cinnamomum" saplings brought in from Taiwan at Penang International Airport earlier today. Maqis said inspection of a passenger carrying two boxes containing the saplings revealed that the items lacked the necessary import permit. "The 67-year-old man claimed the 100 saplings, valued at RM3,900, were for personal use. "Further investigations are underway," the department said.
