PUCHONG - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asserted that he had no involvement in the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to grant a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over three money laundering charges involving RM27 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
"That is the judge's decision, and the Attorney General's. I do not interfere,' he said briefly when approached by reporters after performing Friday prayers at Masjid Kampung Seri Aman today. Earlier, Judge K Muniandy allowed the defence's application for a DNAA, citing the prosecution's lack of preparedness to proceed with trial proceedings, which have been marked by persistent postponements since 2019.
The court was informed that the prosecution had yet to obtain the necessary documentary evidence. The delay, the judge noted, had denied the accused the right to a fair and timely resolution of the case.
A DNAA means the accused is temporarily discharged from the charges, but may still be prosecuted for the same offences in the future if the prosecution decides to reinstate them. - BERNAMA

IPOH: Two men were killed after they were hit by a car while they were refuelling their van by the roadside of Kilometre 84.6 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu on Sunday (Aug 17). Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said they received a report at 9.15pm about a crash involving a van and two sedans that led to the death of the two men. Because of the near collision, the second sedan, driven by a man, 60, and carrying a woman passenger, 36, hit the two men by the side of the van, causing severe injuries to both of them. "The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver died while receiving treatment at Gerik district hospital," he said, adding that all the other people in all three vehicles were unhurt. Two men killed in road accident while refueling van in Ipoh
IPOH: Two men were killed after being struck by a car while refueling their van by the roadside at Kilometre 84.6 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu. Gerik district police chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman confirmed the incident occurred yesterday evening. The victims were refueling their Nissan Vanette when the accident took place. A Proton Wira, driven by a 19-year-old, nearly collided with a Proton Preve ahead of it. This caused the Proton Preve to swerve and hit the two men standing beside the van. The 18-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Gerik district hospital. All other occupants of the three vehicles involved escaped unharmed. Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama

Unity Ministry Seeks RM250 Mln Under Budget 2026 For Five Initiatives
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The National Unity Ministry (KPN) is seeking a RM250 million allocation under Budget 2026 to implement five initiatives aimed at strengthening community harmony and empowering communities. Its minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the Unity and National Identity initiative involves an allocation of RM100 million to implement the Flagship Kembara Perpaduan programme to strengthen the nation-building agenda. 'The Community Harmony and Well-being initiative, with an allocation of RM100 million, aims for a more progressive Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) by revitalising the Voluntary Patrol Scheme, empowering Community Mediators, and implementing the MADANI Harmony Initiative. "Under the 'Ini Warisan Kita' (This is Our Heritage) initiative, an allocation of RM10 million is for the acquisition of historical materials and national heritage treasures to be preserved and inherited by future generations, while the 'Transformasi Pendigitalan' (Digitalisation Transformation) initiative, with an allocation of RM20 million, is for the digitalisation of national heritage treasures including museums, archives, and libraries to make them more accessible to the public," he said in his speech during the ministry's Budget 2026 dialogue session here today. He said that the fifth initiative, Conducive Unity Premises, with an allocation of RM20 million, aims to improve the facilities and amenities of agencies under the KPN for the well-being of the people. "Last year, the allocation we requested was RM290 million, but we only received RM90 million. For next year, we are requesting RM250 million, and we hope it will be considered because there are many more activities we want to carry out," he said. In a similar development, Aaron also hopes that the Finance Ministry and the Inland Revenue Board will consider providing tax exemption incentives to companies that contribute directly to unity programmes or activities at the community level. "We know that in Malaysia, there are many large companies that can help us provide funds for activities, but these companies, no matter how much money they give, will claim tax relief under social responsibility," he also said. Today's dialogue session involved government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), KRT, associations, and students from institutions of higher learning (IPTs) to discuss needs, suggestions, and priorities related to the Budget 2026.
