Galaxy S26 Ultra leak teases a surprising, and massive, camera upgrade
A new leak by tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo is now claiming that Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra , will sport a 1/1.1-inch 200MP Sony camera sensor. Reportedly, this new sensor would be for the main camera.

The tipster doesn't give any other details about the flagship's other cameras. However, this new 200MP sensor, if it indeed makes it into the Galaxy S26 Ultra , would be a pretty big deal.
The report, if true, indicates a pretty big upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Ultra in the camera department. First of all, the claim is that we're talking about a 1/1.1-inch 200MP camera sensor. This is quite larger than the current 200MP sensor (1/1.3-inch) which is on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and previous Ultra models by the company. It's worth noting that this rumored sensor is just slightly smaller than the one-inch camera sensors seen on some rival Android phones, including the Oppo Find X8 Ultra or the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

The larger sensor means there would be an increased light intake, which, understandably, improves picture quality compared to what the Galaxy S25 Ultra currently has.
If the rumor pans out, it would be expected that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will provide better low-light photos and higher-quality cropped zoom images. All in all, the full-resolution 200MP pictures from this sensor could also be dramatically better than the current S25 Ultra's 200MP photos.
Of course, all of this is still leaks and rumors, and we're obviously quite far away from the release date of the Galaxy S26 Ultra to know for sure. However, there's one curious thing worth mentioning here.
So far, Samsung has always used in-house 200MP cameras for its Ultra models. That is because Sony has not released a sensor with 200MP for smartphones just yet. Rumors claimed back in March that Sony may be working on such a sensor, and these rumors indicated the sensor may be larger than Samsung's. That's a pretty big deal, though. If this new rumor is right, Sony may enter the ultra-high-resolution smartphone sensor market with its new camera that Samsung may introduce with the S26 Ultra . That would be big both for Sony and for Samsung.
But there's another thing. Samsung has recently been quite conservative, if I may say so, with hardware upgrades, especially for the Galaxy S series. We all remember the disappointment many Samsung fans felt with the January Unpacked, when we saw that there was little new with the Galaxy S25 series.
Either Samsung has heard us and decided it will stack up the upgrades next year, or the rumor may be false. The thing is, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has already been rumored to come with a 200MP camera, but none of these earlier leaks claimed it would be a larger sensor or a Sony one. So for now, let's take this information with a grain of salt.
Personally, though, I think it's possible to happen. After all, Samsung's given us plenty of upgrades with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 even though we believed (at one point) that not a lot of upgrades were coming. Maybe finally Samsung is playing seriously again, and is about to hit us with a nice surprise with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra .

Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic in for review
The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic is the new middle ground in the Galaxy smartwatch series. It sits above the baseline Watch8 and borrows some features from the Galaxy Watch Ultra while still keeping its signature rotating bezel. There's nothing surprising inside the box, Samsung is giving you a magnetic wireless charging pad attached to a USB-C cable. Our review unit comes in Black, which has some contrasting stainless-steel elements, giving off a sharp and elegant look. It comes with the faux leather watch band, which is sadly proprietary, so you can't just swap out any old 20mm band like on the previous generations. Back to bezel. We definitely have a soft spot for physical control buttons and they just don't get better than a tactile knob like this. But there's more, Galaxy Watch8 Classic also borrows the Galaxy Watch Ultra's Quick button. It's remappable so you can assign it to all sorts of different features or shortcuts. Weirdly enough, the 46mm Watch8 Classic features a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen – the same size as the much smaller 40mm Galaxy Watch8. It's still protected by Sapphire Glass and maxes out at 3,000 nits which should be more than enough, even for bright outdoor use. Watch8 Classic gets the Exynos W1000 chip just like the vanilla and Ultra models, alongside 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. Samsung claims the 445mAh battery inside the Watch8 Classic should offer up to 40 hours with the Always-on Display (AoD) off and 30 hours with AoD on. Come on, Samsung! Don't give up on the tri-fold just yet

However, contrary to multiple recent rumors, the company's tri-fold smartphone — dubbed the Galaxy G Fold — was missing from the first, I thought that this was just because it may not be ready to be shown off, but there might actually be another reason as well. According to the interview, Samsung doesn't think that there's much demand for a tri-fold Galaxy foldable. Previous reports have claimed that this phone will initially see a very limited release in a select few countries, now we don't know if it will even make it out of those regions. Naturally, such a device couldn't have been expected to sell too well. It's a novelty phone, first and foremost, and it's unlikely to be all that practical either. But, I think we can all agree that the biggest reason it won't sell too many units is the price tag. A tri-foldable Samsung phone is not going to come cheap, much like its rival: the Huawei Mate XT. And yet, I think that there's a case to be made for the Galaxy G Fold. The Huawei Mate XT is the world's first commercially available tri-foldable phone. | Video credit — Huawei Until recently, I thought that foldable smartphones were a gimmick with no practical value whatsoever. My biggest issue with them was the crease, and in my anticipation for a foldable iPhone that eliminated that problem, I neglected the entire segment. Then the Galaxy Z Fold 7 came has leaped multiple generations and made a foldable smartphone that is a worthy rival to the Chinese foldables that I had been ignoring until now. It's stunningly slim, it's powerful, and most importantly of all, its crease is almost non-existent now. From writing them off as a fad, to actively wanting to daily drive one, Samsung singlehandedly made me look at foldables under a new light. If the company can do this, and if Huawei can sell the Mate XT, then the Galaxy G Fold has a decent enough market, in my opinion. And, even if it didn't, I'd say it's worth the investment. If Samsung is going to give us phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is just innovation for innovation's sake, then it should go ahead with the G Fold too. The G Fold will likely not sell well until it's able to ship with a much lower price tag, but I think it's worth getting to that point. No one's buying a Huawei phone in the States after the Google ban, as painful as it is to admit, and the G Fold is the only chance that they'll have at a tri-fold worth getting. Lastly, Apple is currently working on multiple new iPhone models. There is the iPhone 17 Air, slated for release this year. We've also gotten multiple reports that the foldable iPhone may come out next year. Additionally, there will be a new 20th anniversary iPhone Pro model that will feature no cutouts or notches on its Galaxy G Fold will keep Samsung ahead of its largest rival by providing consumers with a device that they cannot get from Apple. Apple is late to the foldable market, and Samsung has the chance to leave it behind in another segment immediately. The Galaxy S25 Edge isn't selling well, but despite that, there are reports that there will be a Galaxy S26 Edge and no S26 Plus. In my opinion, there isn't a market for the Edge models either, not until they can use silicon batteries to provide better runtime. Samsung, if you're still insisting on the Edge despite that, then the G Fold also deserves a chance. Release it globally, then make a successor like Huawei is currently doing, and I think you'll find that there are enough people willing to get one to make it a profitable venture. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE go on pre-order in the US
In case you were out of town this week, here's the recap of the Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung opened a new chapter with slimmer Z foldables, but also the first FE foldable that targets a lower price. It also launched new smartwatches with a 'cushion' design. All new devices went on pre-order after the event and that will continue for a couple of weeks – open sales begin on July 25 (Friday two weeks from now). During the pre-order period, the phones get a free storage upgrade. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is super slim (8.9mm folded, 4.2mm unfolded) and light (215g, it weighs less than an S25 Ultra). You can check out our hands-on for a closer look and don't miss the camera samples that show off what the new 200MP camera can do. The phone also has bigger displays – 6.5' cover and 8.0' main display (up from 6.3' and 7.6' on the Z Fold6). One thing that wasn't upgraded was the battery – you're still looking at a 4,400mAh cell. Samsung says that Z Fold buyers had other priorities, demanding a slimmer build, better cameras and larger displays. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 offers the best of both worlds – a slimmer design (13.7mm folded, 6.5mm unfolded vs. 14.9mm/6.9mm on the Z Flip6) and a bigger 4,300mAh battery. That's 300mAh more than the previous model and almost as big as the Fold battery. This one has larger displays too, an edge-to-edge 4.1' cover display and a 6.9' inner one (vs. 3.4' and 6.7' on the 2024 model). However, all Z Flip7 models will be powered by the Exynos 2500, including the US one. Also, the cameras didn't get any real upgrades besides 10-bit HDR video support. Check out our Z Flip7 hands-on and camera samples for more info. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is the more affordable clamshell foldable – its MSRP is $200 less than the Z Flip6 was last year. That said, you can't depend on carrier deals for this one – the Z Flip7 FE will be sold only by retailers and not carriers. Anyway, you are essentially looking at the Galaxy Z Flip6 except with the old Exynos 2400 chipset replacing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. Also, memory was cut back to 8/128GB and 8/256GB configurations, but the free storage upgrade gets you the latter. The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 is the slimmest in the family, measuring only 8.6mm, while getting a small bump in battery capacity. The squircle shape – or 'cushion design' as Samsung terms it – is said to be more comfortable to wear and more stable (which offers more reliable readings during exercise with a lot of movement). The Watch8 has a 50% brighter display (now boosting to 3,000 nits), but it is powered by the same Exynos W1000 as last year's Watch7. The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic brings back the rotating bezel and introduces the Quick Button, similar to the Watch Ultra. This one is available only in 46mm size and comes with a relatively small 1.34' display. There are no discounts yet, but Amazon throws in a $50 and a $100 gift card for the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic, respectively. There is no new Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, but Samsung refreshed the existing model with a new color, Titanium Blue, and it doubled the storage to 64GB (bringing it on par with the new Classic). Even with the $100 gift card, unless you need the extra storage for podcasts or something, you may want to go with the older Ultra – 32GB is still a lot of storage for a watch.
