'Like it's National Day' — Singaporeans say of Lady Gaga hanging the SG flag at her concert
SINGAPORE: By all accounts, everyone had an amazing time at Lady Gaga's concert at Singapore's National Stadium on Sunday night (May 18), which marked the pop superstar's first return to the Little Red Dot in 13 years.
While clips of Singaporeans singing along rapturously to 'Die With a Smile' or dancing like there's no tomorrow have been all over social media, one of the highlights of the evening was toward the end when Lady Gaga unfurled the flag of Singapore from a balcony onstage, which brought on much cheers and applause from the audience.
'Singapore… Singapore, I love you so much,' the singer said after the flag was revealed, placing her hand over her heart. 'The last time we were here was for the Born This Way ball… I remember how special that was; I love it here so much. You are so very special to me.'

When a local Reddit user shared a photo of Lady Gaga with the Singapore flag, they captioned it with 'Just Lady Gaga hanging the Singapore flag from the balcony like it's National Day.'
This prompted other users on the platform to have some fun.
'Wow, thought she was reciting the pledge too,' one quipped.
Some agreed, especially since the performer was captured hand on heart.
Others quickly joined in, with one writing, 'All that's needed to be authentic is for that block to be in the design of an HDB and have the bamboo laundry poles hanging out. Bonus points if Uwu bird sound is integrated into the background.'
Another joined in: 'You still need the ah peks smoking downstairs and the YPs speeding past in their manyao PMDs, and the inconsiderate neighbours dirtying your laundry from upstairs.'
When one asked others to imagine if Lady Gaga would sing 'Home,' the quintessential National Day song, a commenter wrote, 'Bruno Mars' band played Home for intermission during their concert last year. Which is funny cause it seems like the most well-known 'Singaporean song' is an NDP song.'
Nevertheless, the post author had a wonderful time at the concert. They wrote, 'Her live vocals are 100%. After dancing her heart out, she can still belt out the high notes like nothing. Mostly sang Mayhem hits, but I quite like the new songs too.'
The pop star is becoming known for bringing the flag of the country where she performs front and center, having already done this in Mexico and Brazil. In her recent concert in Brazil, she even wore a dress inspired by that nation's flag. /TISG

"As the first and only chef nominated for this award – one that many celebrities I've respected since young have gotten before – this is a great form of recognition already," he said. He has since asked his friends and family to vote for him, and has taken to his socials to canvass for votes. He also hopes to thank his fans for taking the initiative to rally votes for him. "To be honest, I don't know how to canvass for votes either 'cos this is my first nomination. I'm grateful for every single vote my supporters have given me," said Lee. On top of hosting food shows, Lee has also ventured into acting and had a cameo role in 2024 drama King Of Hawkers. "Acting is like cooking a dish. It is a form of art, which also requires knowledge and preparation," preached the chef. If given a chance, Lee hopes to play a villain next as he wants to show his range. This chef really enjoys having a lot on his plate, doesn't he?

Chin Mee Chin Confectionery in Katong celebrates 100 years with new menu items, limited edition merchandise
Chin Mee Chin Confectionery (CMC), one of Singapore's oldest coffee shops, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Since 1925, CMC has been at the same location, in the heart of Katong, serving time-honoured recipes of kaya toast and kopi including their signature kaya toast – iconic round buns generously slathered with homemade kaya and cold butter. In 2018, CMC weathered a manpower crunch that nearly forced its closure. A revival by Singapore's Ebb & Flow Group in 2021 ensured that CMC could continue serving the community with its breakfast favourites. Since then, CMC has also introduced a wider variety of contemporary flavours to complement its classic offerings. To commemorate their anniversary, CMC will be launching a series of anniversary activities from June to August, featuring limited-edition merchandise, memorabilia, blind bags, as well as new menu items. From Jun 23 to 29, between noon to 4pm, customers who spend S$25 or more in-store will get a chance to draw a limited edition CMCoin from a blind draw box. Embossed with the coffee shop's iconic kopi cup, there are 99 silver coins and just one rare gold coin available. These coins can later be redeemed for special gifts in July – a token of appreciation from CMC to its customers. Throughout the month of July, 99 lucky holders of the silver CMCoin can redeem an exclusive 100-year CMC T-shirt (worth S$38), while the one grand winner of the rare gold coin will win a two day one night stay at Artyzen Singapore (deluxe room with breakfast for two worth S$565++).
