National Level 2025 Labour Day Celebration At Axiata Arena

PUTRAJAYA, April 22 (Bernama) — The 2025 National Workers' Day celebration will be held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on May 1, said Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.
Sim said the celebration, themed 'Pekerja Kesuma Bangsa', which is targeting 10,000 visitors, is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
'Today we are holding a pre-launch for the 2025 Labour Day Celebration and this year's programme will be held at Axiata Arena.
'The programme will start on April 28, where we will organise a Labour Day carnival with various events including a career carnival, job fair, skills training and so on,' he told reporters after attending the Ministry of Human Resources' (KESUMA) Monthly Assembly and the Pre-Launch of the 2025 National Labour Day Celebration here today.
Sim said among the events expected to attract visitors is the Mega Career Carnival which offers 10,000 job opportunities in the private sector and government-linked companies (GLCs) as well as a discount on Royal Malaysian Police summonses of up to 50 per cent.
'I am inviting the public to visit Axiata Arena starting April 28 to experience the excitement of the Labour Day celebration for themselves,' he said.
Asked if there may be any important announcements at the celebration, Sim expected the Prime Minister to announce several things but asked all parties to attend the annual celebration in person.
'Yes, but you have to wait... there will be several announcements in terms of policies, in terms of new programmes that may be announced by the Prime Minister and myself,' he said.
Meanwhile, KESUMA in a statement announced that the ministry will launch the MYFutureJobs application: A Progressive Step to Empower Job Seekers in conjunction with the National Level Labour Day 2025 celebration.

Ringgit likely to trade within RM4.22-RM4.23 against greenback next week
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit is likely to trade around RM4.22 to RM4.23 next week, said an analyst. However, it depreciated versus the euro to 4.8268/8371 at Friday's close from 4.8169/8254 at the end of last week. The ringgit traded mostly higher against ASEAN currencies. The local note improved against the Singapore dollar to 3.2862/2934 on Friday from 3.2938/3002 the previous week, edged higher versus the Indonesian rupiah to 259.5/260.2 from 260.4/261.1 and stronger vis-a-vis the Philippine peso to 7.58/7.60 from 7.62/7.64 a week before, However, it weakened versus the Thai baht to 12.9599/9947 from 12.9507/9790 last week. - Bernama

Indonesia's FM calls for stronger Asean mechanisms after Vision 2045 adoption
JAKARTA/MANILA (Bernama): Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono has called for strengthening Asean's institutional mechanisms, including its diplomatic corps and central bodies, to effectively implement the Asean Community Vision 2045 adopted at last month's summit in Kuala Lumpur. At a meeting with the Committee of Permanent Representatives to Asean (CPR) and Timor-Leste's Ambassador to Asean at the Foreign Ministry here, he praised the progress achieved through Asean's cooperation frameworks, especially after the adoption of the Asean Community Vision (ACV) 2045. He said the long-term vision, adopted at the 46th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur last month, outlines a strategic roadmap for the next two decades, envisaging a resilient, innovative, dynamic and people-centred Asean. "We need to strengthen Asean mechanisms, including the CPR, and bolster the Asean Secretariat and Asean Headquarters in Jakarta to optimise our potential in addressing challenges within the region and globally,' he said. Sugiono also underscored the CPR's role in fostering community building, facilitating cross-pillar coordination, and engaging with Asean's external partners, as it is essential to achieving the goals of ACV. PETALING JAYA : A 5% housing discount offered for Indian Muslims in Penang will be reviewed by the state government, says Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim. He said he had raised the matter with chief minister Chow Kon Yeow recently, after the proposed discount drew criticism. Sim, who is also human resources minister, said Chow had agreed to bring the matter back to the state executive council to be discussed and reviewed. 'I take note of the public feedback on the matter. As a party that upholds the Federal Constitution, DAP always fights for justice and the welfare of all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion. 'It is important that the Penang government continues to uphold the principle of social justice and ensures that every Malaysian's right to homeownership is protected,' he said in a statement. The discount was announced on Thursday, by executive councillor for housing, S Sundarajoo. He said private developers will be encouraged to voluntarily offer a 5% discount to first-time Indian Muslim homebuyers for one year as part of a state housing campaign. The initiative was criticised by human rights lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, who called the campaign discriminatory and unconstitutional. However, Sundarajoo defended the discount, saying it does not infringe on the rights of other communities and was purely aimed at increasing homeownership among groups with low participation in the open market. He also said developers would offer the discount as a form of corporate social responsibility and would not involve the state government's funds.
