Asean Chair: 3-day security preparedness exercise at KLCC from today
It said the session will involve comprehensive testing of the Emergency Action Plan based on NSC Directive No.18, namely the Policy and Mechanism for the Management and Handling of Terrorism Crises.
It said the exercise comprises three phases, namely the Diplomat Mind Symposium today, covering preparation briefings and current inputs regarding the exercise, followed by the 'Table Top Exercise' (TTX) simulation discussion tomorrow before concluding on Wednesday with the 'Field Training Exercise' (FTX), involving simulation and demonstrations.
"Throughout this exercise, especially on Wednesday, the public is advised to remain calm regarding the simulation implementation that will involve the movement of assets and security personnel around the KLCC area," it said in a statement today.
It said the exercise is conducted to ensure all involved agencies are at the highest level of preparedness and coordination.
NSC said the exercise is also following its move to activate the Crisis Management Team together with security agencies to strengthen national defence, security and public order throughout Malaysia's Asean 2025 chairmanship.
Checks on the myasean2025.my website found that among the Asean meetings to be held starting May 24 are the 19th Meeting of the Asean Coordinating Council Working Group on Timor-Leste's Asean Membership Application (ACCWG), the Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Malaysia assumed the Asean Chairmanship on Jan 1 from Laos, with the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', reflecting the country's aspirations to build a united and prosperous Asean.
This marks the fifth time Malaysia has held the Asean Chair after assuming the role in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.
Established on Aug 8, 1967, Asean currently consists of 10 Southeast Asian countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, while Timor-Leste's full membership is still in process.

It'd certainly save the hassle of being stuck in traffic for hours. Better still, just declare public holiday as seems to be the typical SOP (standard operating procedure) in Malaysia. One observer wanted a tit-for-tat response to implementation of US tariffs on Malaysian exports, taxing the special presidential ride (codenamed The Beast). However, one did see a positive side to the whole affair. Malaysians will be getting better roads as the route will be patched up to be good as new. Modifying Trump's much trumpeted 'MAGA' (Making America Great Again) slogan, one commenter declared the US Commander in Chief had come to 'Make ASEAN Great Again'. Malaysia gains global recognition for Asean diplomacy, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's success in uniting Asean and promoting peace in the region has earned it international respect, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister said Malaysia's name is now held in high regard globally, especially due to its efforts in bringing Thailand and Cambodia to the negotiating table, leading to a ceasefire agreement. 'Malaysia's name is honoured around the world. 'People are now talking about Malaysia's success in uniting Asean and achieving peace and progress for all,' he said in his speech at the National Felda Settlers' Day Celebration and Rural Entrepreneurs' Carnival here on Saturday (Aug 2). 'Almost every day, we are still in contact. Just last night, I was speaking with several prime ministers, including Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. 'I asked about the situation, and he said, 'Thank you very much Prime Minister, no more fighting,' but he asked for our help,' he added. Anwar said that Thai and Cambodian defence ministers are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (Aug 4) to hold detailed discussions on peace efforts. He stressed that Malaysia's ability to play such a role is due to the country's stability and credibility. 'This is our capability. If this country were in chaos, with daily disputes and demands, who would come?' Anwar also revealed that United States President Donald Trump commended Malaysia's role in facilitating peace between the two Asean nations. 'Fantastic job' - Trump praised Malaysia's mediation in Thai-Cambodian conflict, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said United States President Donald Trump has described Malaysia's role in brokering peace between Thailand and Cambodia as a "fantastic job". Anwar said the compliment was conveyed during a phone call with the United States president on Thursday following Malaysia's success in bringing the Thai and Cambodian prime ministers to agree on a ceasefire after weeks of tension. "He said: 'Thank you Prime Minister Anwar for the fantastic job in bringing both Cambodian and Thai prime ministers together and securing a lasting peace'. "Three times he used the word fantastic," Anwar said at Felda Settlers' Day and Rural Entrepreneurs Carnival at Mitec here today. He said Malaysia's efforts were the result of coordinated work between the Foreign Ministry, the armed forces and the country's leadership, which enabled the two neighbouring nations to agree to halt hostilities. "Alhamdulillah, a ceasefire was achieved. Malaysia's name is now being spoken of from Washington to London, with people talking about our success in uniting Asean and achieving peace," he said. Anwar said he had remained in contact with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to monitor the situation. "I am still keeping in touch with Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia. I asked him about the situation and he said, 'Thank you very much prime minister, there is no fighting.' "But he asked for Malaysia's help to facilitate further talks," he added. He said that the Cambodian and Thai defence ministers were scheduled to come to Kuala Lumpur on Monday to discuss the next step towards securing lasting peace.
