The presence of civilians in the area could interfere with crucial forensic and aviation investigations being conducted by both Indian and international teams.
The Ahmedabad flight crash turned into a nightmare for several families who would never see their loved ones returning back home. Three days after the horrific accident on June 12, the relief and rescue operation at the site still continues.
Amid the ongoing investigation and rescue operation, the site has been sealed to preserve the evidence. The administration has also urged the citizens and onlookers to refrain from approaching the crash site.
Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay said in a public statement, 'We are grateful to all local residents and volunteers who assisted in immediate rescue operations. However, over the past two days, the crash site has been cordoned off to allow investigators to collect critical evidence. We request everyone to stay away from the area to avoid any disruption in the investigation process."
The administrative statement comes as curious onlookers have swarmed in from Mehsana, Patan, Bharuch-not to help, but to see the crash site. Rooftops in the densely packed Meghaninagar neighborhood have turned into makeshift viewing galleries, resembling rural fairgrounds. Locals say their homes are being invaded by strangers pleading for access to terraces, verandas, even windows-all for one perfect photo of the debris.
The movement of civilians in the area could compromise with forensic and aviation-related findings being gathered by Indian and international teams.
Quoting the DGP's message, Minister Harsh Sanghavi posted on social media platform X, 'Items recovered from the crash site will be carefully documented and returned to the families of the deceased. Our teams are working meticulously to identify and safeguard these personal effects."
He also also stressed that the government is aware with the emotional sentiments attached to the belongings and is committed to returning them 'as soon as possible".
The death toll in the crash has climbed to 271-the 241 passengers and crew on the plane and the remaining people on the ground, mostly in the hostel building.
Authorities have matched 47 DNA samples from the Ahmedabad plane crash site so far, with 44 families contacted and 24 bodies handed over to relatives. Officials said 22 death certificates have already been issued.
However, the total death toll remains uncertain, as officials caution that DNA work is still ongoing.

"Precise striking capability of our brave soldiers has razed terrorist hideouts to ground": Amit Shah on Operation Sindoor

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that precise striking capability carried out by the Indian armed forces inside Pakistan territory completely destroyed terrorists hideouts during Operation Sindoor. Amit Shah made these remarks at a UP Police recruitment ceremony where more than 60,244 Civil Police Constables received appointment letters. 'Through Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Modi sent a message to the world that the blood of Indians shall not be spilled, and anyone who dares to do so will face severe punishment. Precise striking capability of our brave soldiers has razed terrorist hideouts to the ground, marking the beginning of a strong new India,' Amit Shah said. Recalling the India's response following 'nefarious' attacks in Uri, Pulwama, and Poonch, Amit Shah said, 'Modi government responded to Uri attack with a surgical strike, to Pulwama attack with an airstrike, and to Poonch attack with Operation Sindoor, destroying the terrorists' headquarters.' Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7, 2025, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians showcased a calibrated, tri-services response that embodied precision, professionalism, and purpose. Operation Sindoor was conceived as a punitive and targeted campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan. This multi-dimensional operation effectively neutralized terrorist threats, deterred Pakistani aggression, and firmly enforced India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. The operation maintained strategic restraint while gaining international support. (ANI)

Mohali police conduct operation CASO in Peer Muchhalla societies

Mohali: As part of its ongoing crackdown on anti-social elements, the police conducted a massive cordon and search operation under operation CASO in various residential societies of Peer Muchhalla on Sunday morning. The operation was carried out under the directives of DGP, Punjab, and SSP Mohali. Over 350 police personnel were deployed for simultaneous checks across multiple societies, including Pink City, Royal Mansion 2, and Metro Town, between 6:30 am and 9:00 am. Mohali SP Manpreet Singh, who led the operation, said the action was part of a broader campaign to weed out anti-social elements and ensure public safety. "During the search, special attention was paid to suspicious individuals, vehicles, and unattended items. Vehicles that appeared to be parked for extended periods were verified to rule out any criminal activity," said the SP. Inspector Jashanpreet Singh, in-charge of Dhakoli police station, confirmed that no suspicious objects were recovered during the operation. However, eight individuals were detained for verification from various societies. "They were later released after questioning, as nothing incriminating was found against them," he said. The police have assured residents that such surprise checks will continue in the coming days to build a sense of security in the area and prevent the harbouring of criminals in residential spaces. The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
