It's official: Utah Hockey Club has a new name
Smith Entertainment Group announced Wednesday morning that Utah's NHL team will now be known as the 'Utah Mammoth.'
Why Mammoth?
Four rounds of public voting yielded approximately 850,000 responses. Mammoth was the clear favorite, according to the team.

The new team name is intended to represent strength, momentum and an earth-shattering presence, and pays homage to the boldness with which the franchise entered the league.
Fans will notice that the name is singular: Mammoth, not Mammoths. The team noted that this represents unity as a state and moving forward as one.
'From day one, we committed that this team would be built with and for the people of Utah, and we are excited to celebrate today's launch with the entire state,' said team owners Ryan and Ashley Smith in a press release. 'The community chose the Utah Mammoth brand, and it stands as a symbol of who we are, where we came from, and the unstoppable force we're building together.'

Mammoths roamed the earth 10,000 years ago and bones have been found in Utah, meaning they lived in the area.

What will Utah Mammoth jerseys look like?
New logos and altered jerseys accompany the name change.
The home jerseys will feature a similar logo to the one in the most recent survey, with a few changes — a mountain outline, a mark in the shape of the state of Utah, an uppercase 'M' for Mammoth and a U-shaped tusk. These jerseys will have an alternate logo on the shoulders in the shape of the state, with 'Utah' spelled out and a hockey stick underlining the letters.
As the Deseret News reported in November, the new away jerseys are very similar to those from the team's inaugural season: U-T-A-H descends on the front in a staircase formation.

The Utah Mammoth jerseys do, however, have a slightly different font, which the team calls 'Mammoth Sans.'
The shoulder emblems on the away jerseys will be the same as the primary logo on the home jerseys.

Both the home and away jerseys will feature wording inside the back of the collar reading 'Est. 2024,' with a white ring added to the inside of the away collar.
The names and numbers on the jerseys will also use a new font.
The 'A' and the 'H' in Mammoth Sans both feature angled crossbars as a nod to several of the inaugural season logos. The striping and the colors will be the same as the inaugural season jerseys.

An additional logo will feature a 'U' with a mammoth tusk swooping across the front.
Mammoth merchandise will be available in the team store starting at noon on Wednesday. Jerseys will not be available yet, but shirts, hoodies, hats and more will be.
The new jerseys will be on display at the NHL draft from June 27-28. Each player Utah drafts will don one.
The team received the fourth pick at Monday's draft lottery. The new branding might be a good reason to keep the pick, rather than trading it.

New team name, new rally cry
The Utah Mammoth will adopt the rally cry 'tusks up,' which became popular on social media among those in favor of the name over the past few months.

The team did not specify the extent to which it would use the slogan, but it could become the Utah Mammoth's official hashtag on social media and be used for merchandise.
A new in-arena mascot will accompany the name change. Details will be released at a later date, according to team leaders.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Colorado Mammoth lacrosse team, supports SEG's use of the name.

Getting an autograph from just one of sports' 'GOATs' is a challenge. Now imagine securing signatures from Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky and Lionel Messi – and to make it more impressive, getting them all to sign the same item. Then imagine doing it in just one year. That's exactly what super collector Patrick Ryan pulled off, creating a one-of-a-kind piece that spans a century of sports greatness. On June 29, 2024, Ryan claimed a nearly 100-year-old autograph album at auction, its prize possession a page signed by Ruth. That single purchase would spark an extraordinary quest – one that would produce one of the most remarkable pieces of sports memorabilia ever assembled. 'When I bought the Babe Ruth signed album page … it just looked kind of empty and it looked lonely,' Ryan told CNN Sports. That's when he realized he had an upcoming opportunity. Brady was scheduled to attend a Sotheby's and Fanatics sports card auction the following week. 'I said, you know what, maybe there's some ways to spruce up this Babe Ruth autograph,' Ryan said. Brady was the first modern legend to join Ruth's signature. Ryan brought the album page – and a gift – to the auction. 'It was a ticket to the 1981 NFC Championship game, which he famously attended to watch the Dwight Clark catch,' Ryan said. When Brady got up to leave, Ryan presented the ticket before asking for the favor. 'His eyes definitely lit up when he saw what I was having him sign.' From there, Ryan began plotting the rest. Gretzky's signature came next through mutual friends during the NHL Winter Classic in Chicago. A few months later, Messi signed during a private session with Icons, an autograph company. The final piece was Jordan. Ryan kept details private but said, 'Michael has a lot of respect for … the other guys that are on this piece of paper, and I think that's what motivated him to want to make sure it got done.' Remarkably, Ryan secured all five autographs within a year. When it came time to share the finished 'GOAT' page with the world, Ryan knew he wanted Brady to be the one to reveal it. Brady had been the first living legend to sign the page after Ruth, and his connection to the memorabilia world through his investment in trading card stores made him the perfect choice. The reveal took place at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago. Standing face-to-face with the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Ryan handed him the slabbed album page without explanation. Brady turned it over, took in the sight of all five autographs, and his eyes widened. A smile broke across his face as he leaned in to study it more closely. 'To me, the fact that Tom didn't know what I was showing him really was the icing on the cake because we got a really genuine reaction from him,' Ryan said. 'For him to react the way he did was definitely special.' The moment, captured on video, quickly approached a million views online. Now authenticated by sports memorabilia experts PSA and Beckett, the page features five autographs in distinct shades of blue ink: Jordan, Ruth, Brady, Gretzky and Messi. 'A few museums have reached out. … I'm more than willing to have it on display where these athletes would want it,' Ryan said. Ryan has been a collector since age 7, when he sold baseball cards by the roadside. For him, this piece is more than just ink on paper. 'The fact that I've had so many people reach out … that's been really fun,' he said. 'The whole process has been very rewarding, but I'm always looking for what's next in my journey as a collector.' Still, having five of the greatest team-sport athletes in history on one page – and seeing Brady's stunned reaction to the completed piece – gave Ryan perspective. 'It's such a unique piece. … I'm becoming very focused on making sure other pieces in my collection are directionally in that way,' Ryan said.

Their first regular-season game of the 2025-26 campaign is set for Oct. 9 against the Colorado Avalanche. The organization will have to wait a little longer before one of its up-and-coming talents makes his professional hockey debut. Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong said on Thursday that forward/center Caleb Desnoyers will miss approximately 12 weeks after undergoing wrist surgery, according to a statement from the team's public relations account on X, formerly known as Twitter. The Mammoth selected Desnoyers with the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Only Matthew Schaefer (No. 1 to the New York Islanders), Michael Misa (No. 2, San Jose Sharks) and Anton Frondell (No. 3, Chicago Blackhawks) were taken ahead of him. Prior to being selected by the Mammoth, Desnoyers starred in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, where he landed on the league's All-Rookie Team after the 2023-24 season and was on its All-Star First Team one year later. This past season, he finished fifth in the league with 84 points (35 goals and 49 assists) and first in game-winning goals (11). "Desnoyers established himself as the No. 1 center on the No. 1 team in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League in 2024-25, quite an accomplishment for an 18-year-old looking to make an impression in his NHL Draft-eligible season," Desnoyers' official biography on reads. The Vikings revamped their offensive line this offseason, and they used their first-round draft pick to complete the overhaul. They signed Ryan Kelly and Will Fries, then drafted Donovan Jackson to give them three new faces on the interior offensive line. Of course, like anytime you have a new group together, there can be growing pains. His NFL debut against the Texans included a PFF grade of 55.9 and just 12 snaps played, so joint practices this week with the Patriots will be critical. Needless to say, he kicked things off with a bang based on the film that got out on one play. Jackson showcased this ability to be a mover in college while at Ohio State. Anytime a team can add a college offensive lineman who can be a lead blocker like that, it is an invaluable asset. For the Vikings, and the way they like to run the ball in zone concepts, this is a prime example of why he is just going to get better with time for Minnesota.
