Meghalaya SIT team to reconstruct murder crime scene of Raja Raghuvanshi

India Gazette10 hours ago

Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], June 17 (ANI): Days after the heinous murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Meghalaya Special Investigation Team (SIT) said it is likely to reconstruct the crime scene of the murder.
The murder scene is expected to be recreated by the SIT team at a parking lot in Sohra in the presence of the accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash, Vishal and Anand.
'We have recovered a sharp weapon which had been purchased by the accused from Guwahati to commit the murder,' a senior police official told ANI.
East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem has said that efforts are underway to file the chargesheet against the accused within the stipulated time period.
On June 15, the family members of the victim raised serious questions about the statement given by his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged accomplices.
As per Meghalaya Police, Sonam and four others murdered Raja. In response, a candle march was carried out in Indore, demanding justice and a deeper investigation into the case..
While speaking to ANI, Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, made a strong appeal for a narco test on the accused, stating that their behaviour during the probe raised doubts.
'The way Sonam and Raj are misleading the police is shocking. Once a narco test is done, it will be revealed how much Sonam is lying about it. How all the accused are lying indicates that they may know more about the murder... I cannot talk to Sonam's parents yet. Why haven't they made any statements through the media? For instance, Raj claims Sonam has been typing Rakhi to Govind and him for three years. Doesn't her mother know this? Police need to question her parents. Why have you all hidden this from the media and police?' he told ANI.
Meanwhile, Raja's brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, led the candle march in Indore, expressing the family's grief and their firm stand for justice.
'To get justice for Raja, I will go anywhere in the world... This candle march is organised so that Raja's soul may attain peace...' he said.
Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G Momin also reacted to the case. He condemned those who tried to defame the state of Meghalaya in the wake of the murder.
'The blame has already been placed on our state, so those who are blaming have to come and apologise to our state. Meghalaya is a safe and tourist-friendly state... Everyone can come to Meghalaya, and we receive everyone as our brothers and sisters. There is no difference; everyone is Indian, and we are Indians. We will work together... I salute the Meghalaya police for cracking this case...' he said.
According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam Raghuvanshi and four others were involved in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, who had gone missing earlier. (ANI)

NCW asks Odisha DGP to ensure swift probe into student's gang-rape at Gopalpur beach

The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday asked the Odisha director general of police (DGP) to conduct a swift and time-bound investigation into the gang rape of 20-year-old college student at the state's Gopalpur beach. In a letter, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also asked Odisha DGP YB Khurania to ensure that compensation was paid to the rape survivor under Section 396 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which requires states to come up with victim compensation schemes, and extend free medical and psychological support to the rape survivor. 'An Action Taken Report has been demanded within three days,' NCW said in a statement. Police said the 10 accused including four juveniles have been taken into custody. The six adults have been identified as mastermind Pramod Nayak (23), Baburam Dalai (19), Kunal Pradhan (24), Om Pradhan (19), Lakman Pradhan(24), and Deepak Tarai (19). Berhampur SP Vivek M Saravana said the police will ask the Juvenile Justice Board to allow the four minors to be tried as adults since they were 17 and are accused of participating in a heinous crime. The rape survivor and her male friend, had gone to Gopalpur beach for Raja festival on Sunday evening and were at a secluded spot near Panthanivas Hotel at around 6.30 pm. 'Around 8 pm, the accused confronted the couple and tried to extort money from them. They claimed to have shot the couple's photos and threatened to circulate them if they reported anything to the police. When the couple pleaded to let them go, five of them overpowered the girl while others tied up her friend's hands. Three of them then dragged the girl around 30 metres away and then took turns to rape her while seven others kept an eye. A local police team on an All Terrain Vehicle passed by the area but the accused had gagged the woman. 'The cops could not hear her,' Saravana said. The woman and her male friend reached the Gopalpur police station at about 11pm and reported the incident. The woman was reluctant to file a formal complaint over concerns that her identity would be revealed. The SP said she agreed to lodge the first information report (FIR) on Monday evening after much persuasion. Deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, said she had ordered a thorough probe. 'All necessary steps will be taken to ensure justice and prevent such incidents in the future,' she said. Leader of the Opposition and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik described the incident as 'deeply shocking.' 'The gang-rape at Gopalpur, a major tourist destination, has shaken the conscience of the state. It raises serious concerns about women's safety in public places. The government must act decisively,' he said.

'Sign this and shut up!': Employee accuses HR of pressure tactics over suspicious exit papers. Netizens call out corporate gaslighting

In a viral Reddit post on r/developersIndia, a former employee has exposed what they describe as a "shady and coercive" exit process at their previous company. The post, titled 'HR Says 'You'll Get Paid, But Sign This and Shut Up!' Seriously?' , recounts how the individual was allegedly pushed into resigning under the threat of a termination mark on their record — and then strong-armed into signing questionable documents in exchange for their rightful dues. According to the user, they were asked to resign on April 1st after the company announced their termination, with HR reportedly saying a resignation would 'look better' on their career. Taking the suggestion at face value, the employee resigned the very next day and returned their work laptop as instructed. But they quickly realised they were entitled to a two-month notice period, and formally expressed their willingness to serve it. The twist? The company neither acknowledged their email nor permitted them to work during that notice period. A month later, they were informed that the compensation would be paid as part of the final settlement. By May 30th, they received their relieving letter—but it carried an unexpected surprise. The Date That Disappeared, and the Documents That Gagged The employee discovered that the relieving documents reflected April 2nd as their final working date—essentially nullifying the two-month notice period altogether. Even more baffling was the company's response. When asked to correct the date to June 2nd, in line with the stated notice period, management allegedly claimed they couldn't amend the document because it had been generated after the end of the financial year in March. As per the post, the HR team said, 'We understand, but it's a shame we can't do anything about it,' while still assuring payment—but only if the employee signed a release form stating they had 'no further claims against the company.' Employee shares his major career regrets on Reddit Also attached to the exit documents was a termination letter, a move that left the employee flabbergasted: 'There is also a termination letter attached to the relieving letter—like WHAT???' Netizens Call Out Corporate Gaslighting The Reddit post has since ignited widespread discussion and disbelief. One user bluntly advised, 'Don't sign it and threaten a legal case. They'll come back with both the updated relieving letter and the money within a day. That justification about the financial year is out of this world.' Another commented, 'What do companies get from doing something this bad to a random employee? They're giving him the pay, but not the paperwork—just because they don't want to redo a mistake?' Companies use that to avoid paying rightful severance.' This case stands as a cautionary tale in the corporate landscape. As workplaces tighten belts and streamline headcounts, employees must remain vigilant—especially during exits. Experts recommend keeping written records of all communication, and not signing any document that contains language waiving future claims without thorough scrutiny. "I Feel Sonam Used Black Magic On My Son": Raja Raghuvanshi's Father

Indore: The father of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, on Monday raised doubts about the deceased's wife Sonam, also the main accused, believing in "tantra mantra" (black magic) and using it on his son. Raja's wife Sonam (25), her alleged lover Raj Kushwah (20) and three friends of Kushwah have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder. He went missing on May 23 during his honeymoon in Meghalaya and his body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district. After the thirteenth day rituals at Raja Raghuvanshi's house in Indore, his father Ashok Raghuvanshi told reporters, "On Sonam's behest, Raja hung a bundle-like thing on the main door of our house. Sonam had told Raja that by hanging it, the household will not be affected by any evil eye." "After Raja's murder, I feel Sonam believes in tantra mantra and she used it on my son. After the murder, this bundle was removed from the house. Those guilty of killing my son should be hanged," the distraught father said. Raja Raghuvanshi's mother Uma said her son and Sonam were "mangliks" (connected to Mars in a person's horoscope) and they got married in the traditional format as per "muhurat" (auspicious time) suggested by an astrologer of the bride's family. "Sonam stayed at our house for only four days after marriage and went to her maternal home as per tradition. We happily sent her off to her maternal home. If I ever meet her, the only thing I will ask is why did she get my son killed," Uma said. The couple got married on May 11 and left for Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20.
