Sonam Khan: ‘Mitti Aur Sona' proved that I could act and look sexy too
Mumbai: Veteran actress Sonam Khan shared that she found her role in the 1989 film 'Mitti Aur Sona' challenging, as she played both a college girl and a sex worker to prove her acting abilities beyond her "sexy" image. The actress took to Instagram, where she went on to share that at the age of just 15-16, she drew strength from visiting a red-light area, enabling her to tackle emotionally intense scenes, including the film's raw climax, which left a lasting impact. She shared a couple of stills of her look from the film, which was directed by Shiv Kumar. It also stars Chunky Pandey and Neelam. Sonam wrote: 'Mitti Aur Sona is a movie closest to my heart… I played a college girl and a sex worker. Yes, challenging it was. I had to adapt the mannerisms of a college student and a girl who is moonlighting as a sex worker. I had a point to prove with this movie. How? I had no clue.' She added: 'I was usually associated with being sexy Sonam, wearing bikinis with gay abandon. This movie gave me a chance in my short but eventful career of less than 4 years to prove that I could act and look sexy too.' The actress visited a red light area in a burka, saw the mannerisms of the young girls there revealed that her 'heart was full of mixed emotions.' 'I even spoke to a few of them. I felt a great sense of grief, fear and protectiveness towards those young girls.' The shoot was rather eventful too, shared the actress. 'I remember I had to do a scene in which I was wearing a skin colour short, strapless dress which gave a feeling that I wasn't wearing anything, as the scene absolutely demanded that through camera lens & angles. At first, I was okay and then suddenly, I just burst out crying and refused to do the scene… I was just 15/16 years old,' she said. The actress added: 'After much cajoling in my makeup room, I went on the set and did the scene thinking & taking courage through the girls I had seen in the red light area a couple of moons ago… ' Talking about her 'favorite song of the movie', she said it is ''Zindagi Mein Pheli Pheli Baar' sung by the legendary late singer #latamangeshkar ji.' 'The last song of Mitti Aur Sona which was sung beautifully by our iconic, @ ji was shot with me wearing zero makeup. The shoot wrapped up of Mitti Aur Sona, which was the death scene again without makeup and was the climax of the movie. I started feeling very choked up.' Sonam said: 'I went home and cried a lot as I had so many emotions to vent out… my mom watched me in horror as she had never seen me crying like this. I styled my look for Mitti Aur Sona all by myself as I was obsessed with Madonna back then and even now. My co-actors @chunkypanday & #pran Saab were beyond helpful during the shoot.' She concluded: 'I shall always be grateful to @pahlajnihalani sir who gave me an author backed role. Sometimes in a leap of fate, I went from a scantily clad sex siren to proving that I can act too.'

Missing Indore couple likely went hiking in steep terrain: Meghalaya Chief Minister
A large-scale search operation is underway in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district for a newly-wed couple from Madhya Pradesh who went missing last week while on their honeymoon in Sohra (Cherrapunji). Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that steep terrain and monsoon conditions are making the search operation extremely difficult, but authorities are committed to finding the couple.'It looks like after leaving the bike there, they have gone off-road mainly to hike. The area that they went to, both sides have hiking treks, they are very steep. And of course, in this monsoon season, the possibility of slippery areas is also very high,' Sangma couple, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, both from Indore, were last in contact with family on May 23. The next day, the scooter they had rented was found abandoned near Sohrarim village, a scenic spot often visited by tourists. Since then, both their phones have been switched off and are untraceable. 'This is a very, very unfortunate situation. My counterpart from Madhya Pradesh, the chief minister, has spoken to me. I have received a call from the Home Minister's office,' Sangma Chief Minister assured that the administration has been working round-the-clock. 'I have been monitoring this situation personally on a daily basis. The Superintendent of Police as well as the entire administration and the police force have been on the job 24x7... The entire village and the community in that area is also participating in this search,' he of the couple, including Raja's brother Vipin and Sonam's brother Govind, have flown in from Indore to help with the search. Govind reportedly used the couple's travel photos and Google Maps to trace their possible route. The rented vehicle was reportedly found near Osra Hill, an area being closely say the terrain is 'beautiful but unforgiving', with thick forest cover, deep gorges, and slippery cliffs making search and rescue efforts risky and slow. A nearby resort, allegedly associated with criminal activity, is also under scrutiny to determine whether the couple visited or stayed there.'We are using all the possible technology available with us to help in our endeavour,' Sangma said. 'Overall the search area is very, very big. We are working very hard... We are hopeful that we will be able to find them.'Officials from Madhya Pradesh, including DCP Crime Branch Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, are coordinating with Meghalaya Police. Cabinet minister Tulsiram Silawat has assured the family of all possible is the second disappearance in the district in recent months. In April, Hungarian tourist Puskas Zsolt went missing and was later found dead near Ramdait village. Authorities had ruled out foul play in that response to recent incidents, local authorities had issued safety advisories for tourists, urging them to avoid remote trails and forest areas without proper guidance.'For us, tourists are like our family, especially in Sohra area, they have treated tourists as part of their family,' Sangma said. 'Every single village has offered their help. They are tirelessly working along with the administration.

6 days on, no signs of Indore honeymooners in Shillong
Indore: What was meant to be a joyful beginning of a new chapter in life has turned into a nightmare for the families of Raja and Sonam Raghuwanshi — a young couple from Indore who disappeared during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. For the past six days, their loved ones have been clinging to hope, while search teams comb the rain-drenched forests and dangerous cliffs near Shillong, praying for a sign of life. In desperation, the family has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any information about their whereabouts. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav spoke with Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma on Tuesday, requesting swift action to locate the couple. Raja, a 30-year-old transport businessman, and Sonam, whom he had married just weeks earlier, left Indore for Guwahati on May 20. They were excited to explore the lush hills of the Northeast — a dream trip for both. After two days in Guwahati, they headed to Shillong. The last time the family heard from them was on May 23. "We were in touch with them until that day. After that, their phones were switched off. We knew something was wrong," said Govind Raghuwanshi, Sonam's brother. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I feel terrible that I cannot help my son! Donate For Health Donate Now Undo "They were newly married, just beginning a future together. We never imagined this." The worry turned to dread when their rented scooter was found abandoned near Osara Hills in Sohra Rim — a remote area notorious for being unsafe and prone to criminal activity. Two bags belonging to the couple were later discovered in a nearby gorge, partially hidden in the bushes on Tuesday. Despite the rain and treacherous terrain, more than 50 people — including police officers, local villagers, and members of the village defence party — have been tirelessly searching for the couple. Their family has refused to give up. "We will not stop until we find them," said Govind, who flew to Shillong along with Raja's brother Vipin a day later. Indore MP Shankar Lalwani travelled to Shillong on Wednesday and met the state's DGP Idashisha Nongrang. "All evidence so far points to foul play," he said. "This wasn't an accident. The couple had four phones, including two iPhones — all are switched off. They were also wearing jewellery." Piecing together the last known movements of the couple has been haunting. They reportedly visited the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat village, a challenging trek that takes hours. It's believed they spent the night nearby and were seen the next morning having tea at a small roadside kiosk. After that they went missing. "It takes at least four to five hours to descend towards Nongrait village and people usually stay there for the night before returning. We found out that they had returned and had also had tea at a kiosk on the way after which they went missing," said Govind, fearing that they were attacked by robbers. The distances between where their scooter was found, their bags, and their last known tea stop have only deepened the mystery. "There's a big gap in the timeline. Something happened between those points. Maybe they were followed. Maybe they were robbed," Govind said. The search is now concentrated around a gorge near the Root Bridge, about 50km from Shillong.
