6 players who impressed Jim Harbaugh in the Chargers' preseason win over the Saints
At his media availability, head coach Jim Harbaugh highlighted six of them that impressed him:
Rogers, the undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, took advantage of his extensive playing time. Rogers recorded two interceptions in the game, including a 43-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter. Harbaugh called it "as good a play as I've ever seen." Rogers left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury and was seen with crutches after the game.
The third-year player Murphy continued his stellar summer with two sacks, including a strip-sack in the second quarter. Harbaugh believed Murphy deserved credit for three sacks in the game. He also noted that Murphy is making a "very good case" for a spot on the 53-man roster.
The undrafted rookie out of Syracuse, Wax, led the team with nine tackles. He also notched a sack.
While Taylor Heinicke struggled in his first preseason outing of the year, Lance continued to make a strong case to be the primary backup to Justin Herbert. Lance showcased his rushing ability, leading the team in that department with 48 yards on seven carries, including a 5-yard rushing touchdown.
Despite the passing game taking a backseat in this game, Campbell still made the most of his opportunities. The former Gamecock finished with three catches for 62 yards, including a 49-yard haul late in the game from DJ Uiagalelei. Campbell also converted a two-point attempt from Lance.
Williamson stood out in the tackling department, both on defense and special teams.

Chargers-Saints Winners/Losers
The Chargers beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon 27-13 behind another strong defensive effort led by another group of young players. If this type of play continues into the regular season, Jesse Minter will most certainly not be with the Chargers much longer. But for now, we're enjoying his brilliance while it's still in Los Angeles. Here are three winners and two losers from Sunday's preseason victory! Winners CB Eric Rogers After fellow UDFA rookies Nikko Reed and Myles Purchase popped off in the Hall of Fame Game with an interception apiece, Eric Rogers went out against the Saints with something to prove. In arguably the best defensive performance by anyone on Sunday, Rogers picked off two different Saints quarterbacks and returned one for a 43-yard touchdown. Unfortunately the night did not end well for Rogers who wound up injured on a kickoff and had to be helped off the field by trainers. In the locker room after the game, Rogers was seen using crutches while receiving his well-deserved game ball from head coach Jim Harbaugh. EDGE Caleb Murphy Murphy has been on a hot streak through the first two preseason games for the Chargers. He began the Hall of Fame Game by assisting on the tackle that forced a turnover on the opening kickoff against the Lions and then followed up on Sunday with two sacks and nearly had a third one against the Saints. Being a menace in two of the three phases of football is a quick way to earn yourself a spot on the final 53-man roster and Murphy may have just sealed that outcome with two preseason games left this month. RB Raheim Sanders After an injury kept him out of training camp early, including sidelining him during the Hall of Fame Game, Sanders enjoyed a very strong first impression with his 42-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Saints on Sunday. As the game went on, Sanders and Haskins were the two main backs for the Chargers after Kimani Vidal started the outing. Haskins also ran strong, but it was Sanders who found the end zone when he baited the New Orleans safeties up the middle before bouncing to his right and beating everyone to the pylon. I'm fully expecting the Chargers to keep four true running backs on the roster, in addition to Scott Matlock if they continue that experiment for another full season. Haskins will make the team due to his special teams contributions which means it's up to Sanders or Vidal to win that final spot. Right now, I think those two are pretty close to each other with two preseason games to go. Losers RB Kimani Vidal Vidal got the start but did not end up playing all that much throughout the night. With a two-score lead held by the Chargers for most of the day, this was a good opportunity for the young backs to get more playing time. However, Vidal only earned six carries (tied third on the team with Haskins) and managed just 16 yards (2.7 average). Unless Vidal already has that last spot locked up, it did not make a ton of sense for him to lose out on snaps to both Haskins and Sanders. For that reason, I think Vidal is losing some ground to the aforementioned Sanders. QB Taylor Heinicke Heinicke did not play in the Hall of Fame Game in order for the coaching staff to get an extended look at Trey Lance. This past Sunday, Heinicke got the start but turned in a very porous 1-of-5 passing stat line for just eight yards with multiple passes sailing high and away from his targets. He did have one great pass to KeAndre Lambert-Smith over the middle on the opening drive but the rookie receiver dropped it. Due to his starting experience, I don't know if he's actually losing much ground to Lance. Mainly because Harbaugh may not want to bet the farm on Herbert staying healthy all season long and having the team's playoff hopes resting on Lance's inexperienced shoulders come Week 18. Heinicke's resume may keep him safe in the end, but right now he is definitely not the second best passer on the Chargers.

Preseason Week 1: Saints vs. Chargers
The New Orleans Saints fell to the Los Angeles Chargers in a Week 1 preseason matchup by a final score of 27-13. This game ushered in a new era of football for the Crescent City, marked by a new coaching staff, position battles, and a genuine rebuild in motion. The matchup, although entertaining, may have just made things even hazier as the regular season approaches ever so steadily. Some players stood out, some players got behind the eight ball, and some… well, injuries are bound to happen. Let's deep dive into how fans and social media reacted to the contest. The Quarterback See-Saw: New Orleans has a two-man race going on at QB. Both Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough got crucial reps during this game, but both had some good and bad going on. Perhaps you're leaning one way or another, but the reality of the situation is that after one game, there is no clear-cut frontrunner for the starting gig. Rattler: 7-11, 53 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 3 sacks, 75.2 QBR, one fumble Shough: 15-22, 165 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 sacks, 86.4 QBR, pick-six Defense Wins Championships? While I'm not sure if the Saints will be winning much of anything soon, a couple of young defensive players stood out in a big way. After signing with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent last year, linebacker Isaiah Stalbird spent time on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster. Fadil Diggs was the Saints' final selection of the 2025 NFL Draft. Both players were impactful and have something to play for. Another One Bites the Dust… New Orleans could not escape the game versus the Chargers without a short stack of injuries. Four Saints left the game at some point, including Will Clapp, Trevor Penning, Bub Means, and Mason Pline. While we do not yet know the severity of these injuries, it still sucks to see guys go down early, nonetheless. It's Good to be Back Above all, Saints fans and football enthusiasts were just glad to be able to watch the sport again. It was a long offseason away, but New Orleans will always have the team's back- win or loss.

Saints Play of the Day: Drew Brees surpasses 60,000 career yards on a 27-yard TD
The New Orleans Saints played their first preseason game on Sunday, but the start of the regular season is 27 days away. Our Saints Play of the Day for today celebrates a pass that brought Drew Brees past an impressive milestone. A decade ago, facing the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, Brees connected with Brandin Cooks for a 27-yard touchdown that helped the passer reach 60,000 career yards. At the time, Brees was just the fourth quarterback ever to reach the mark. You can watch the play for yourself here. There have only been nine quarterbacks to pass 60,000 career passing yards. There will be 10 by the end of this year, though, as Matthew Stafford is less than 200 yards away from the mark. He's now one of four who have at least 70,000 and one of two with 80,000. Brees was the top passer in NFL history at one point, ending his career with 80,358 yards. Now, Tom Brady is the only player above him at 89,214. Brees will be remembered by Saints fans as one of, if not the best, pure passers in the sport's history. He may not have always gotten the recognition in terms of awards, but the numbers speak for themselves. The other player involved in that play, Cooks, is now back in New Orleans and hoping to turn back the clock and perform again 10 years later. He hasn't been in a Saints uniform since 2016. The expectations won't be as high for him now as he will be the third receiver in the new room with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
