WHO: al-Amal hospital in Gaza out of service

Saba Yemen10-06-2025
Rome – Saba:
Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Tuesday that al-Amal Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip is out of service.
In a post on X platform, Ghebreyesus said, "al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis is currently out of service due to increased attacks by the Israeli army in its vicinity," according to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa).
He noted that the hospital is no longer accessible, leading to more preventable deaths.
The UN official explained that the hospital is no longer able to receive new patients, despite the presence of many in need of medical care.
He noted that with the closure of Al Amal Hospital, Nasser Hospital is now the only hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, with an intensive care unit.
Ghebreyesus added, "We once again call for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of health facilities, and unhindered access to essential medicines and medical supplies."
Health services in the Gaza Strip are facing a complete collapse due to the systematic attacks launched by the Israeli occupation army on hospitals and medical facilities, as part of the genocide it has been perpetrating against the people of the Strip for more than a year and a half.
With American and European support, the Israeli occupation army has continued to commit genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 54,981 Palestinian citizens, the majority of whom are children and women, and the injury of 126,920 others. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.

Egypt, UAE Coordinate to Supply 2 Million Gallons of Water Daily to Gaza Residents

The United Arab Emirates and Egypt are intensifying their humanitarian coordination to deliver 2 million gallons of potable water daily to residents of the Gaza Strip, as part of a broader joint relief effort, UAE Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Sultan Al Shamsi announced on Wednesday. Speaking during a live phone interview with Egypt's Sada El-Balad TV, Al Shamsi highlighted the ongoing water desalination efforts aimed at serving over one million Gazans. Plans are underway to expand the water supply line deeper into central Gaza. Al Shamsi revealed that 5,000 tons of Emirati aid are currently staged in El Arish, Egypt, awaiting entry into Gaza. Additionally, 143 trucks loaded with food supplies, medical equipment, and water are part of the relief convoy. 'Providing safe drinking water is our top priority in Gaza right now,' said Al Shamsi, underlining that access to clean water remains one of the most critical challenges in the besieged enclave. He also confirmed the presence of a floating Emirati hospital stationed in El Arish, as well as a field hospital inside Gaza, which have together supported the treatment of over 2,600 patients and companions from Gaza in the UAE. Al Shamsi addressed circulating reports about the closure of the Rafah border crossing, categorically denying them: 'I have seen with my own eyes that the crossing is open on the Egyptian side,' he stated. He also dismissed what he described as "rumors" intended to undermine relief operations, affirming that no misinformation campaign would halt the humanitarian support being provided by both Egypt and the UAE. 'Whatever is being said, we will continue our mission. Egypt and the UAE are committed to helping the Palestinian people,' he said. The Gaza Strip has been grappling with acute shortages in water, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies due to ongoing conflict and restricted access points. The UAE and Egypt's joint efforts are seen as a vital humanitarian lifeline, offering both immediate relief and infrastructure-based solutions.

UAE Steps Up Gaza Airdrops as Starvation Crisis Worsens

The United Arab Emirates has intensified its humanitarian operations in Gaza as the starvation crisis deepens across the besieged enclave. In partnership with Jordan, the UAE carried out coordinated airdrops delivering approximately 25 tons of food and medical supplies to civilians in areas cut off from ground access. These airdrops came alongside Israel's temporary daily ceasefire announcement, allowing a 10-hour pause in military activity across specific zones such as Gaza City and central Deir al-Balah to enable the flow of aid. Despite the efforts, challenges on the ground remain dire. Ten individuals sustained injuries after being struck by falling crates during the airdrops. Moreover, Gaza's Ministry of Health reported 38 deaths from overnight Israeli airstrikes, including 23 civilians searching for food and 17 others who had gathered at aid distribution points. The situation continues to deteriorate, with the United Nations welcoming the recent aid efforts while urging for a comprehensive ceasefire to ensure broader humanitarian access. To date, malnutrition has claimed the lives of 133 individuals, among them 87 children, painting a grim portrait of the growing crisis and the urgent need for sustained international response.
