Migrant pickpocket crew nabbed working the crowd at NYC Governor's Ball Festival: police
A crew of migrant pickpockets was nabbed plying their trade at the Governor's Ball Festival in Queens — and all three are back on the streets, according to police and court records.
Police responded to the three-day music festival at Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Friday night on reports of stolen phones, where eagle-eyed cops spotted the three Colombian immigrants — including one woman who was caught grabbing a phone out of the victim's purse, law enforcement sources said.
Three migrants — Maritza Cortes Palomo, 35; Windi Paola Mendoza Echeverry, 34; and Maria Mendoza, 30 — were arrested at the park and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, an NYPD spokesperson said Sunday.

Echeverry was also charged with resisting arrest, police said.
According to sources, cops from the NYPD Pickpocket Squad and Patrol Borough Queens North flooded the festival looking for sticky-fingered crooks, which led to the Friday night arrests.

One of the migrants had four phones tucked in her waistband when she was arrested, sources said.
Court records show that all three of the alleged Governor's Ball thieves were arraigned on Saturday and Sunday and all were released without bail pending return court appearances.
All three woman told police they live in Florida.

Under the state's controversial 2019 criminal justice reforms the charges lodged against the three migrants were not eligible for bail.
Palomo and Mendoza are due back in court on July 29, and Echeverry is scheduled for Aug. 12.
The Post reported last year that teams of pickpocketing asylum seekers had created an additional headache for the NYPD, with sources identifying at least 100 migrant offenders.
One year earlier, the department created the pickpocket team to combat the trend.

Body found by police confirmed to be missing Colombian woman
Police have confirmed that a body found over the weekend is that of a Colombian woman who disappeared after leaving her east London home. Yajaira Castro Mendez, 46, was reported missing to the Metropolitan Police on May 31, having left her home in Ilford on the morning of May 29. An investigation was launched and 51-year-old Juan Francisco Toledo, of Lambeth, south London, was arrested on June 4 and subsequently charged with murder. Police conducted a search for Ms Castro Mendez and found a body in the Bolderwood area of Hampshire on Saturday, which has now been formally identified as her. Acting Detective Chief Inspector Sean Beasley said: 'This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. 'Officers have been working around the clock and continue to investigate the circumstances. 'There are still crime scenes in place and we're working closely with Hampshire Police. We thank the community for their patience as we carry out our investigation and we continue to appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to please come forward.' Francisco Toledo, who police have said was known to the victim, was remanded in custody after appearing at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on June 6 to attend the Old Bailey on Tuesday. Ms Castro Mendez's disappearance was initially treated as a missing person investigation led by local officers but the investigation was transferred to the Met's Specialist Crime Command on June 5, after a range of extensive further inquiries suggested she had come to harm. Family of 5 robbed at gunpoint in Queens home: sources
WHITESTONE, Queens (PIX11) — A family of five was robbed at gunpoint in their Queens home Monday morning, according to police and sources. The armed suspects, one dressed in an Amazon delivery vest, allegedly barged into the house near 152nd Street and 12th Avenue in Whitestone at around 9:05 a.m., police and sources said. More Local News Authorities said the home's front door was left unlocked after one of the kids left for school Monday morning. The men allegedly forced the parents, a 42-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, and their three other kids into the basement and ransacked the house before leaving with an unknown amount of cash and jewelry, according to police and sources. The suspect then fled in the couple's car, which was later found unoccupied near 154th Street and 14th Avenue, according to the NYPD. There were no injuries. There have been no arrests. Police are searching for two men between 40 and 50 years old. One was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, and the other in an Amazon delivery vest. The investigation is ongoing.
