Shock GAA inter-county football managerial resignation in Ulster
Donnelly's decision came out of the blue as he had an agreed term to take him through to the end of the 2027 season.
The former Fermanagh star's decision means there are now four inter-county football managerial vacancies across the country.
Westmeath, Waterford and Antrim are also on the lookout for managers after parting ways with Dermot McCabe, Paul Shankey and Andy McEntee respectively.
Fermanagh have often looked outside for managers, with Donegal man Charlie Mulgrew guiding them to the 2004 All-Ireland semi-final, John Maughan managing them for a season (2001) and Peter McGrath also in charge (2014-17).
Tyrone All-Ireland winners Ryan McMenamin and Peter Canavan have also taken the reins for the Erne men.
The only local men before Donnelly to manage Fermanagh over the past quarter of a century are Dom Corrigan, Malachy O'Rourke and Rory Gallagher, with the latter duo leading them to Ulster Finals.
It is unclear if Fermanagh will look inside or outside the county.

Fermanagh boss announces shock exit after 5 years in charge
Fermanagh GAA have confirmed the surprise exit of head coach Kieran Donnelly after five years in charge of the county. Donnelly has stepped down from the role, adding to a number of inter-county manager resignations this season. Fermanagh stated: 'Fermanagh GAA would like to sincerely thank Kieran and his entire backroom team for their dedication and commitment over the last four years. 'Transitioning from Covid and the new playing rules has not been an easy task. 'While silverware may have eluded, Kieran brought a great culture and positive environment to the senior side. 'We wish Kieran, his family and all the backroom team every success in the future.' At the start of the season, Fermanagh were fourth in the Allianz Football League Division 3, having previously gained promotion in 2023. Donnelly's final year in charge was hindered by two near misses with the side throwing away a match-winning position in their Ulster clash against Down. I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to my backroom team for their dedication and professionalism throughout my tenure. 'The players have shown tremendous growth and development, and I am proud of the progress the squad has made during this period. I would like to wish the players, management, and supporters of Fermanagh GAA every success in the years ahead.' Naturally, rumours have begun to fly in surrounding where Donnelly will go to next. However, speculation had been rife that the boss was planning to step away ever since that Kildare loss. Donnelly had played for Fermanagh himself in the 90s, even appearing in Division 1 action before taking up a management role with the county's minor team.

TWO IRISH GOLFERS have been selected to play in the 50th Walker Cup next month as part of the Great Britain and Ireland side that will take on the USA. The GB & Ireland team will face the USA selection in California at Cypress Point on the Monterey Peninsula on the weekend of 6-7 September. The County Louth GC pair of Stuart Grehan and Gavin Tiernan have both been picked while Caolan Rafferty (Dundalk) will be first reserve for the biennial match. Advertisement Grehan was successful at Westport this weekend as he won the Irish Men's Amateur Close Championship, following up his Irish Men's Amateur Open Championship success from Seapoint earlier this summer. Tiernan has also had a phenomenal season with the highlight coming at Royal St George's when he made it all the way to the final of the 130th R&A Amateur Championship before losing to American Ethan Fang, who will be part of the USA outfit.
