Delhi AQI improves to 140; CAQM lifts GRAP Stage-I restrictions across NCR

New Delhi: With Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) improving to 140 on 15 June, 2025, the Commission for Air Quality Management (
CAQM
) revoked Stage-I restrictions of the
Graded Response Action Plan
(GRAP) across the
National Capital Region
(NCR) with immediate effect.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) daily bulletin, the AQI recorded for June 15 stands at 140, placing it in the 'Moderate' category. The Sub-Committee on GRAP of CAQM, which reviewed the air quality and meteorological forecasts from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), unanimously decided to withdraw Stage-I measures.
'Keeping in view this trend of improvement in the AQI of Delhi and also the forecasts by IMD/ IITM predicting the average air quality of Delhi to stay in 'Moderate' category in the coming days, the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decided to revoke Stage-I of the extant schedule of GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect,' CAQM said.
GRAP Stage-I was enforced on June 7, 2025, in the entire NCR in view of deteriorating air quality. However, the panel noted that due to favourable meteorological conditions, Delhi's AQI has remained consistently in the moderate range, with forecasts suggesting similar trends in the coming days.
All concerned agencies of State Governments and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) have been instructed to ensure continued implementation of directions and advisories issued by CAQM, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), CPCB and the respective State Pollution Control Boards/DPCC.
The Commission emphasised the importance of sustaining current air quality levels and avoiding any deterioration to the 'Poor' category. Agencies were also reminded to comply with all timelines outlined in CAQM's comprehensive air pollution control policy, particularly on dust mitigation and other sectoral actions.
The Sub-Committee stated that it will continue to monitor the air quality in Delhi and surrounding areas and will review the situation based on future forecasts by IMD and IITM for any necessary action.

Roads dug up and left like that, 7x sectors gasp under neglect

1 2 Noida: Residents across Noida's 7x sectors (74–79) and adjacent areas like Sector 116 have been reeling under severe dust pollution for over a month, as roads—main and service alike—have been dug up by various departments and left unrepaired. The worsening condition has coincided with deteriorating air quality in the region, with AQI levels in Noida hovering around 191 on June 11, 172 on June 13 and 138 on June 14, marked as 'poor', according to IMD data. "The whole 7X area, especially sectors 77, 76, 74, 78, 79 and even Sector 116, is suffering due to the poor working of Noida Authority WC-6, the water department, IGL and others," said Amit Gupta, ex-AOA president of Prateek Visteria and a Sector 77 resident. "They have damaged multiple roads and left them as they are. For instance, Sector 76-77 main road, Sector 75 main road, Sector 116's service road dug up by PVVNL in Feb, and the Sector 76 road from Skytech Matrott to Amrapali Silicon City have all been left unrepaired. The dust and broken tiles are everywhere." Gupta also pointed to the damage caused outside the air monitoring station in Sector 116, where the Noida Authority's water department had carried out work on a sewage treatment plant pipeline and failed to restore the road post-treatment. "It's ironic that the area next to an air monitoring station itself is a source of dust," he said. Other affected spots include the Sector 75 road opposite Indosam, also dug up by PVVNL for cable work and left unrepaired, and the Sector 116 main and internal roads, which continue to generate large dust clouds every time a vehicle passes. While Gupta has written to the Noida Authority CEO and the chairman of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), no concrete redress has come yet. "I am still waiting for any kind of action," he said. Brijesh Singh, a resident of Sector 78, said the scale of dust pollution in the past six months has been 'unprecedented'. "It seems the officials are simply not serious about the issue," he added. Avnish Kumar, a resident of Sector 77, also expressed frustration. "Despite repeated damage to roads and tiles, no accountability has been fixed. No action has been taken against the staff or contractors responsible," he said. The 7x sectors—developed around a decade ago—have a residential population of nearly 1.5 to 2 lakh, including neighbouring villages. Residents fear that if urgent action is not taken, the worsening air quality and public health risk will only intensify. An official response from the Noida Authority is awaited.

New rules after 2022 crash still fall short of international norms: Experts

New rules after 2022 crash still fall short of international norms: Experts DEHRADUN: There is no air traffic control, no radar coverage, and no real-time weather monitoring at Kedarnath - yet helicopters fly in and out during yatra season, relying on visual cues and radio calls in one of India's most dangerous air corridors. Before DGCA stepped in last week and capped helicopter sorties to nine per hour, the skies over Kedarnath witnessed as many as 250-300 sorties daily. Following the implementation of the new regulation, the district administration reported that 152 sorties were conducted on Saturday. "This is a high-risk zone with zero aviation infrastructure," said a senior helicopter pilot with over a decade of experience on the Char Dham circuit. "No ATC, no radar, no on-ground IMD presence. Pilots are flying blind." After a similar fatal crash in 2022, authorities announced several steps. Rahul Choubey, nodal officer for chopper services, told TOI three fixed cameras had been installed on the Kedar route - at the entry point, Rudra point, and base camp - to help pilots assess conditions before flying. UCADA also introduced an Airworthiness Operating System to monitor flight operations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. In its report on the 2022 crash, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau noted the absence of aviation-grade forecasting and centralised flight coordination. Flights were managed only by operator-level communication and UCADA-issued slots, without any regulatory oversight. Raman Jeet Singh, wife of Captain Anil Singh, who died in the 2022 crash told TOI, "These aren't freak accidents. My husband flew without radar or terrain-mapping, in unpredictable weather. It's always a gamble." A proposed MoU between UCADA and IMD to establish a dedicated meteorological station at Kedarnath never materialised. Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological centre, told TOI, "The MoU could not be signed because Kedarnath doesn't have an ATC."
