"Important to stay healthy for a prosperous nation": Mansukh Mandaviya during 'Fit India Sundays On Cycle'
New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday, during the 'Fit India Sundays On Cycle' event, noted the importance of fitness in today's time.
Mandaviya participated in the 'Fit India Sundays On Cycle' campaign with journalists today.
Speaking during the event, Mansukh Mandaviya told ANI, 'I came to Parliament 12 years ago and used to come regularly by bicycle... Now that Prime Minister Modi has put forward the vision of 'Developed India', it is important for citizens to stay healthy to realise this vision of a prosperous nation. So cycling, exercise and fitness should become a passion. Even if it is a fashion for the society, we should take it that way...'
Earlier on May 18, Actor and fitness icon Suniel Shetty gave a powerful call for consistent wellness at the 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' event, hosted by the Fit India Movement in collaboration with CBIC-GST here.
Shetty joined participants at the GST Commissionerate in Mumbai, adding star power and substance to an initiative that's fast becoming a people's movement.
The event on May 18 marked eight years of GST and celebrated a nationwide commitment to fitness, uniting thousands across CBIC-GST centres in a synchronised push towards health, community, and cleaner air.
The 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and MY Bharat.
Events are simultaneously held across the Sports Authority of India regional centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) and the Khelo India centres (KICs) across the country.
Till now, 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' has been organised nationwide across 4200-plus locations, witnessing the participation of more than 2 lakh individuals. The movement also promotes environment-friendly practices to decrease air pollution levels across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Fit India' initiative in 2019 with the motto of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among citizens. (ANI)

"We want to honour legends of the past": Keshav Maharaj ahead of WTC final against Australia
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Keshav Maharaj is determined to follow in the famous footsteps at the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025. South Africa will face off against Australia for ownership of the ICC Test Championship mace at Lord's, the same venue where the Proteas last got their hands on the trophy 13 years ago. A legendary South African side comprising Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn, and Graeme Smith beat England at the fabled ground to rise to world number one that day, and Maharaj revealed those memories are fuelling motivation for his side to repeat the feat. 'I remember watching that when they lifted the mace. We know that apart from doing it for us, we want to honour the legends of the past, and hopefully we will one day be seen in the same calibre and light to win such a coveted title and hold the Test mace,' he said as quoted by the ICC media release. South Africa arrived in London in strong form following seven consecutive Test victories, with defeat last coming against New Zealand in February 2024. That run took the Proteas to the top of the ICC World Test Championship table and has bred plenty of confidence in camp ahead of the decider against Australia. 'When we started the journey two years ago, a lot of people didn't think we'd be in this situation, but with each and every series we grow more and more. Our blend of youth and experience complements each other really nicely, and we find ourselves competing for another trophy. The boys have put in a lot of hard work. The excitement is building as we edge closer and it's now about letting it sink in and soaking up the occasion to allow us to play with freedom,' added Maharaj. Maharaj is one of a number in the South African squad who have come agonisingly close to ICC silverware in the past few years. The spinner was part of the side that finished runners-up at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, while the Proteas also reached the semi-finals of both the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025. While those near misses still sting, Maharaj is insistent on using those experiences in a positive way. 'In previous attempts, no one expected us to reach the knockout phases of any competition, but we have reached two semi-finals and two finals. Hopefully through all those misses we come right in this one. There is a lot of inspiration we can draw from in the brand of cricket we have played in the last three or four years. If we run with it and stay true to it, hopefully this is our opportunity to finally raise that most-coveted trophy that has eluded us for a number of years,' he said On a personal note, Maharaj is just two away from 200 Test wickets, and while the experienced spinner is happy to trade individual accolades for team success, the prospect of bringing up the milestone at Lord's is one that he cannot escape. 'It would be very special. I don't pay too much attention to the numbers, I just want to help ensure my team wins, so hopefully I can get a 10-fer. I've enjoyed my journey so far, hopefully I've got a long time left, but to get that feat in front of my family at Lord's would be very special. "It's a huge honour:" James Anderson on IND-ENG Test series named after him
London [UK], June 10 (ANI): Former right-arm seamer James Anderson said that it was a 'huge honour' that the Test series between India and England has been named after him and India's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar. Cricketing legends Tendulkar and Anderson will now have a special place in the India-England Test rivalry, as the two boards, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board), have decided to name the Test series between the two countries on them (Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy). Previously, the Test series in England was known as the Pataudi Trophy, named after former India captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. When the series was played in India, it was called the Anthony de Mello Trophy, in honour of one of the BCCI's founding members and its first secretary and president. The new trophy will be officially unveiled by Tendulkar and Anderson at Lord's during the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which begins on June 11. This change comes just ahead of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, with India and England set to play a five-match Test series starting June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. Speaking during a DP World event at Lord's, Anderson told ESPNcricinfo, 'It's a huge honour. I still can't quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up, though I don't want to do him a disservice with his age. I remember watching him, an absolute legend of the game, and I played against him a lot as well. So to have this trophy is a huge honour for me, and I couldn't be more proud.' Anderson, who recently retired after playing 188 Tests, is regarded as England's greatest fast bowler. Tendulkar, widely considered one of the greatest batters in the game's history, played 200 Tests before retiring in 2013. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla hails MS Dhoni for induction in ICC Hall of Fame
New Delhi [India] June 10 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President and Congress MP Rajeev Shukla hailed India's legendary captain MS Dhoni after he was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame during a ceremony at London on Monday, becoming the 11th Indian cricketer to join the illustrious company. Shukla posted on his X handle, 'From the streets of Ranchi to the ICC Hall of Fame, what a journey. MS Dhoni's story is a shining example of determination and excellence. A small-town boy who rewrote cricketing history and won a billion hearts. Congratulations to MS Dhoni on this well-deserved honour.' The ICC Hall of Fame celebrates the extraordinary achievements of cricketing legends who have shaped the sport's rich and vibrant history. Players are eligible for induction only five years after their final international appearance, as per a release from the BCCI. From lifting India's first T20 World Cup in 2007 with a young, untested squad, to guiding the Men in Blue to a historic 2011 ODI World Cup win at home, and adding the Champions Trophy in 2013, Dhoni remains the only captain in cricket history to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. His leadership brought calm to chaos, turning pressure into opportunity and dreams into triumphs. Beyond captaincy, Dhoni redefined the role of a finisher in ODIs. His unbeaten 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 remains the highest score by a wicketkeeper in the format. With over 10,000 ODI runs at an astonishing average of 50.57, his legacy with the bat is as impactful as it is enduring. Behind the stumps, Dhoni was a phenomenon. His lightning-fast stumpings and razor-sharp anticipation revolutionised wicketkeeping in limited-overs cricket. Much like his captaincy, his unorthodox methods defied convention--but delivered unmatched results. ICC Chairman Jay Shah said: 'Through the ICC Hall of Fame, we pay tribute to the finest players the game has seen--individuals whose remarkable careers have shaped cricket's legacy and inspired generations.'
