The best thing about modern tech is that seemingly every gadget serves multiple purposes. Case in point: the Samsung M7 smart monitor. On one hand, it serves as a second screen to extend your workspace. On the other, it serves as a fully capable smart TV. I have an older model of this monitor (the M5) and can enthusiastically say it's one of my best tech purchases.
I'm not a huge fan of the retail price of $499.99, but as of May 28, it's down to just $379.99. That's 24% in savings and only $30 shy of its best price ever.
While many tech purchases don't stand the test of time, I've had the older Samsung M5 smart monitor since 2021, and it's still in pristine condition. I've never had a single complaint, truly. The M7 is two generations better, so I can only imagine how much I'd rave about it. Actually, Mashable's RJ Andersen spent a few months with the M7 and did rave about it.

Here's the scoop:
The 4K display is bright and crisp with a 60 Hz refresh rate and maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160.
Connection-wise, it packs two HDMI ports, three USB-A ports, and one USB-C port.
Adaptive Picture technology can adjust your screen brightness for the best viewing experience.
Two "Eye Saver" modes help reduce blue light emissions.
Samsung Gaming Hub lets you stream games without the need of a console or PC.
You can download and enjoy all your favorite streaming apps and even browse the internet, no other device needed.
Both the 43-inch and 32-inch options are on sale.

So long as you have a sturdy internet connection, Samsung's M7 smart monitor works double duty as a brilliant 43-inch TV. I have a smaller, 27-inch model and have streamed plenty of episodes of New Girl on mine without issue. In fact, I used my Samsung monitor as my TV for a few weeks when I moved into my new place. If you're strapped for space and want a single screen for streaming and working, you won't be disappointed. It might even look better than my actual TV.
If you're a Samsung loyalist, the M7 monitor even lets you control multiple Samsung tablet and mobile devices with a single mouse and keyboard for greater efficiency. I can't speak to the efficacy of this feature, as I am device-agnostic. I also don't think I'd recommend it to hardcore gamers seeking a monitor, as the refresh rate is a bit low. For pretty much anyone else wanting a monitor that can do the most, I wholeheartedly encourage snagging this baby while it's on sale.

US tech titan earnings rise on AI as economy roils

Tech giants Amazon, Apple, Meta and Microsoft this week eclipsed earnings expectations, cashing in on artificial intelligence (AI) while navigating economic waters roiled by US tariffs. "Massive results seen by Microsoft and Meta further validate the use cases and unprecedented spending trajectory for the AI Revolution on both the enterprise and consumer fronts," Wedbush tech analyst Dan Ives said in a note to investors. "We have barely scratched the surface of this 4th Industrial Revolution now playing out around the world led by the Big Tech stalwarts such as Nvidia, Microsoft, Palantir, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon," Ives added. Amazon reported a 35 percent jump in quarterly profits as the e-commerce giant said major investments in AI technology are paying off. "Our conviction that AI will change every customer experience is starting to play out," said Chief Executive Andy Jassy, pointing to the company's expanded Alexa+ service and new AI shopping agents. But the Seattle-based company's profit outlook for the current quarter came in lower than hoped for, with investors worried that the cost of AI was weighing on the bottom line. This was despite a stellar second quarter that exceeded analyst expectations, much like it did for its AI-focused rivals Google, Microsoft and Meta, which posted bumper results for the period. Amazon's net sales climbed 13 percent, signaling that the company was so far surviving impacts of the high-tariff trade policy under US President Donald Trump. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company's world-leading cloud computing division, led the charge with sales jumping 17.5 percent to $30.9 billion. Its strong performance reflects surging demand for cloud infrastructure to power AI applications, a trend that has benefited major cloud providers as companies race to adopt generative AI technologies. - $4 trillion club - Shares of Microsoft spiked Thursday following blowout quarterly results, lifting the tech giant into the previously unprecedented $4 trillion club along with Nvidia, another AI standout. The landmark valuation is the latest sign of growing bullishness about an AI investment boom that market watchers believe is still in the early stages -- even as companies like Microsoft plan $100 billion or more in annual capital spending to add new capacity. "Cloud and AI is the driving force of business transformation across every industry and sector," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. At the heart of the results was a stunning surge in Azure, the company's cloud computing platform, which is getting "supercharged" with AI, said Angelo Zino, technology analyst at CFRA Research. Zino attributed "just about all of" Microsoft's recent climb in valuation to AI. - Superintelligence? - Meta reported robust second-quarter financial results Wednesday, with revenue jumping 22 percent year-over-year as the social media giant continues investing heavily in artificial intelligence. "We've had a strong quarter both in terms of our business and community," said CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "I'm excited to build personal superintelligence for everyone in the world." Zuckerberg has embarked on a major AI spending spree, poaching top researchers with expensive pay packages from rivals like OpenAI and Apple as he builds a team to pursue what he calls AI superintelligence. Hours before the earnings report, Zuckerberg insisted that the attainment of superintelligence -- technology that would theoretically be more powerful than the human brain -- is now "in sight." Meanwhile Apple, which is seen as lagging in the AI race, beat expectations with earnings driven by strong iPhone sales despite US tariffs costing the company $800 million in the recently-ended quarter. Apple expects Trump's tariffs to cost the iPhone maker $1.1 billion in the current quarter. "The results show that Apple's iPhone strategy is working to offset the impact of looming challenges with AI development timelines, tariff pressures, and Google's antitrust issues," said Emarketer tech analyst Jacob Bourne. Apple chief executive Tim Cook said on an earnings call that taking the most advanced technologies and making them easy to use is "at the heart of our AI strategy." Cook said Apple has been rolling out Apple Intelligence AI features and is "making good progress on a more personalized Siri." gc/aks Error in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data

Huge Crocs sales now live in Australia – 5 deals I'd shop, starting from just AU$24

Gather 'round, folks — it's time to get your Crocs on. This cult-followed shoe brand is synonymous with comfort, versatility and downright quirky shoes, amassing hundreds of thousands of cloglovers globally. Crocs has partnered up with many a movie, television show and food franchises, including Krispy Kreme (arriving August 6), and is renowned for its flexible wear options — even though we all know that dads will only ever sport them in, uh, "Sport Mode". It would be remiss not to mention the endless love for Jibbitz, otherwise known as small colourful accessories or charms that you pop into your Crocs holes. There's no better time to bag a pair of Crocs than during a sale, and right now, there's up to 80% off select sandals, slides and moulded clogs on both the Crocs website and the official Amazon storefront, starting from as little as AU$23.99 per pair. But, you'll need to act fast to score a crockin' bargain — these deals won't stick around long! Knocking up to 66% off, these are the clogs that put Crocs on the map. Extremely versatile, breathable and fast-drying when wet, they're perfect for casual outdoor activities. Just in case the colourways in the listing above don't tickle your fancy, Crocs' Amazon store has also discounted Classic Clogs in a range of seasonal colours, starting from AU$32.99 a pair. My personal favourite is the warm and summery Daylily colour for AU$45 or the Pink Tweed pair for AU$32.99. But no matter what you choose, there's sure to be a pair of fun and vibrant clogs waiting for you. Keen on some winter warmers? Not your typical pair of clogs, but these platform-style Crocs come with a warm, fuzzy liner to keep your toes toasty all year round. With an elevated wedge, you'll be a step above other cozy boot wearers this year, and your slippers will also be totally waterproof — beat that, Uggs! A lovely discount on these platform sandals directly from the maker. If you prefer slides over clogs (honestly, same here), then these Cozzzys shouldn't be dismissed. Much like the lined clogs above, these sandals come with a fuzzy layer, keeping you and your toes snug, no matter the activity. Do note, though, this discount is exclusive to the Hot Blush colourway. Knocking a huge 80% off, these sandals are down to a modest AU$23.99 in both the Vanilla and White colourways. If you're keen on a chunky heel hiker aesthetic, these shoes are great for outdoor activities, like picnics, nature walks and more.

Big Tech's $400 Billion AI Spending Spree Drives Valuations to New Highs

The AI arms race is accelerating as the major tech companies add to their already gargantuan levels of spending. The bets are paying off for investors, but not for all employees. Alphabet's GOOGL -2.36%decrease; red down pointing triangle Google, Microsoft MSFT 3.95%increase; green up pointing triangle, Amazon AMZN 1.70%increase; green up pointing triangle and Meta META 11.25%increase; green up pointing triangle Platforms are set to spend nearly $400 billion this year on capital expenditures, largely to build their artificial-intelligence infrastructure. That is more than the European Union spent on defense last year.
