Middle-order contributions from Tajinder Singh (14 off 9) and captain Nicholas Pooran (21 off 16) helped MI New York post a competitive total of 180. Washington Freedom's Lockie Ferguson led the bowling effort with an impressive 3-wicket haul. He was supported by Saurabh Netravalkar, Glenn Maxwell, Jack Edwards, and Ian Holland, who chipped in with a wicket each.
Washington Freedom's chase began on a disastrous note, losing both openers — Mitchell Owen and Andries Gous — for ducks in the opening overs. But Rachin Ravindra steadied the innings with a superb 70 off 41 balls, keeping the Freedom in the hunt.
Glenn Phillips then anchored the innings with an unbeaten 48 off 34 balls, taking the game deep. However, the turning point came in the final over when Maxwell fell for 15, leaving Freedom needing 12 off the last six balls. MI New York's bowlers held firm to close out a narrow five-run win.

The report added that Chennai were keen on signing Samson "through a trade deal via cash." But the deal instantly hit a roadblock. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said a Samson-to-CSK trade would leave RR struggling to get equal value in return. Using Ravi Bishnoi as an example, he explained that if LSG gave up the spinner for Samson, they'd also have to manage the purse to retain Samson — making such deals unrealistic. 'Why the CSK-RR trade won't work is because if Sanju is traded to CSK, and RR then try to trade with other teams, they're unlikely to get valuable players in return. For example, if RR want a spinner like Ravi Bishnoi and approach LSG, the problem is that if LSG acquire Sanju and give away Bishnoi, they also have to manage the remaining purse required to retain Sanju — which becomes LSG's responsibility,' Ashwin said. Ashwin further said that Chennai rarely trade and hence won't part with stars like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube, making a Samson move unlikely, leaving RR with little to gain from such a swap. Former India Test cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin revealed a hilarious story about nearly giving away Virat Kohli's number to a scammer at the end of the Indian Premier League's 2025 season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin reminisced how someone texted him, claiming to be New Zealand and CSK star Devon revealed how he chatted with the number thinking it was his Chennai teammate and wished him well for future endeavours. However, when the account started asking Ashwin for numbers of the players, that is when the India star started feeling the IPL got over, one guy messaged me, claiming to be Devon Conway, 'Hi buddy, how are you?' and I also responded, 'We'll stay in touch. You're playing in MLC; I'll watch the games.' He then asked, 'I've lost Virat Kohli's number, can you share it?' I thought, why is he asking for Virat's number? I thought I should ask him, but I didn't want Devon Conway to misunderstand. Then I picked Virat Kohli's card and gave him a different number," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
