Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces Max Scherzer News Before Cardinals Game
Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces Max Scherzer News Before Cardinals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite a rocky start to the season, the Toronto Blue Jays have found their rhythm and are firmly in the AL East picture once again. They currently have a 35-30 record and are just 4.5 games behind the New York Yankees in the division. Advertisement Toronto has also won 10 of their last 13 games and will look to continue their hot streak on Monday night as they kick off a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite their solid campaign, the Blue Jays have not been at full health. Pitcher Max Scherzer, who signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with the team in the offseason, has been on the injured list since March. However, ahead of their game against the Cardinals, Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided a big update on the 40-year-old. Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer (31)© Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Scherzer left his first outing with the Blue Jays after just three innings and was placed on the 15-day IL due to right thumb inflammation. In May, the team moved him to the 60-day IL. Advertisement Though Scherzer has not played since March, it seems that he is making progress. According to Schneider, via Blue Jays report Keegan Matheson, Scherzer is set to make a rehab start for the AAA Buffalo Bisons on Friday and will likely need at least one more rehab outing after. "Max Scherzer is on track to make a rehab start Friday for the AAA Buffalo Bisons," Matheson wrote on X. "After that, he'll need at least one more rehab outing, John Schneider says." In his pitching debut for the Blue Jays, Scherzer allowed three hits and two earned runs while recording one strikeout. Though his best days are behind him, the St. Louis native still provides a lot of value for Toronto, who will hope that he can make his return as soon as possible. Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game
Blue Jays Receive Alek Manoah News After Cardinals Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays have defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in each of their first two games of their three-game series and are aiming to complete the series sweep on Wednesday. Advertisement Toronto recently jumped past the Tampa Bay Rays for the second-place spot in the AL East standings. Additionally, they are just four games behind the New York Yankees for the division lead. Despite the Blue Jays' overall success this season, they have dealt with numerous injuries and absences. This includes starting pitcher Alek Manoah, who has not taken the mound since May 29, 2024, after undergoing Tommy John surgery. After the Blue Jays' win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, the team received news regarding the 27-year-old that provides a major update on his recovery. Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah (6).Dan Hamilton-Imagn Images Though the Blue Jays are among the top teams in the AL East, their pitching has been rocky all season. Getting Manoah back on the mound should provide them a big boost and provide a bit more consistency in the rotation. Fortunately for them, it seems that he is making good progress in his recovery. Advertisement According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Manoah faced live hitters on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on his elbow. Additionally, Bannon said the session "went well." "Alek Manoah faced live hitters today in Florida (including Daulton Varsho) for the first time since Tommy John surgery. It 'went well,'" Bannon wrote on X. "Big step as he approaches a late-season return #BlueJays" The Florida native is just three years removed from his All-Star campaign in 2022, when he also finished third in the AL Cy Young Award voting. Manoah has struggled to stay healthy since, but he should provide a big boost to the Blue Jays once he makes his return.
