White House defends Sydney Sweeney amid eugenics Ad backlash—is this helping or hurting her?
A lot of people have said bad things about the new jeans promotion, from how sexualized Sydney is to the way she speaks. Some people have said that there are racial themes and links to eugenics, which is probably what people have talked about the most.
In this case, the campaign's slogan is "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," and it's made clear that the whole thing is a play on Sydney's "great genes." Some people are upset that Sydney's genes as a blonde, blue-eyed, white woman are praised, and they say that AE is supporting eugenics and "white supremacy."

One of the clips that received the most backlash centers on Sydney saying, 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.' The social media pages of AE seem to have been hacked to get this video.
Especially in the current political climate, being accused of promoting whiteness is not a great look for the brand, nor for Sydney, who has previously had to address 'misinterpretations' about her and her family's political stance after people on her Instagram page were seen wearing MAGA-style hats.
It's important to note that Sydney has stayed politically neutral in public even though her family has been talked about.
The government has now joined the public discussion about the AE, which is still going on. On July 29, White House communications manager Steven Cheung took to X to share a screenshot of an MSNBC headline suggesting that the AE ad is indicative of an 'unbridled cultural shift toward whiteness.' Cheung said that the response was "cancel culture gone wild" and criticized "dense liberal thinking."
Cancel culture run amok. This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bullshit. pic.twitter.com/He7Ji6O3VF — Steven Cheung (@StevenCheung47) July 29, 2025
'This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024,' he wrote. "This crap is getting old for them."
As you might expect, the White House's answer has made people talk even more about Sydney and the contentious campaign. People are very angry about the latest comments online, with many pointing out that it hasn't made things better and that it's not good for Sydney that the Trump administration is supporting her.

India fires back at Trump's tariff threat, calls U.S. criticism hypocritical
ALBAWABA- India issued a strong rebuttal on Sunday in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to impose higher tariffs over India's continued imports of Russian oil. The statement, released by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, called the targeting of India "unjustified and unreasonable," highlighting what it described as the hypocrisy of both the U.S. and European Union, who continue to maintain robust trade ties with Russia. India clarified that its oil imports from Russia were not only legal but also necessary, arising from global supply disruptions following the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict. 'India began importing from Russia because traditional suppliers diverted their cargoes to Europe,' the statement read, noting that the U.S. had initially encouraged such imports to stabilize global energy markets. New Delhi emphasized that its energy deals are driven by the need to ensure predictable and affordable fuel prices for its population. 'Our imports are a national necessity, not a luxury. Meanwhile, countries criticizing us engage in Russian trade that isn't even vital to their economies.' The statement also cited data exposing the scale of European trade with Russia: €67.5 billion in goods and €17.2 billion in services in 2024 alone. The EU also imported a record 16.5 million tonnes of LNG from Russia in 2024, surpassing previous years. Likewise, the U.S. continues to import key materials such as uranium hexafluoride, palladium, fertilizers, and chemicals from Russia. India's response came shortly after Trump posted on Truth Social, accusing India of 'not caring how many people in Ukraine are being killed' and of 'buying massive amounts of Russian oil and selling it for big profits on the open market.' Trump vowed to "substantially raise tariffs paid by India to the USA." India rejected the claim as inflammatory and misleading. 'India will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard its national interest and economic security,' the official statement concluded.

Trump slams India over Russian oil trade, threatens major tariff hike
Published August 4th, 2025 - 03:19 GMT India's External Affairs Ministry reiterated that its energy trade decisions are guided by national interest, affordability, and global supply dynamics. ALBAWABA- In a fiery post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump accused India of profiting from Russia's war in Ukraine by purchasing large volumes of discounted Russian oil and reselling it on the global market. He condemned India for "not caring" about the ongoing war casualties in Ukraine, stating: "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian oil, they are then, for much of the oil purchased, selling it on the open market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine." Donald J. Trump Truth Social 08.04.25 10:50 AM EST India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War… — Fan Donald J. Trump Posts From Truth Social (@TrumpDailyPosts) August 4, 2025 Trump vowed to respond by substantially increasing tariffs on Indian goods entering the U.S., calling the move necessary to hold India accountable. 'Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA. Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!' he added. The comments sparked confusion and criticism, particularly after Trump claimed on August 2 that India would 'no longer buy oil from Russia.' However, senior Indian officials speaking to The New York Times said no such policy change has occurred. India's External Affairs Ministry reiterated that its energy trade decisions are guided by national interest, affordability, and global supply dynamics. A spokesperson said that India's strategic partnership with Russia remains "steady and time-tested." According to Bloomberg, Indian refiners have not been instructed to stop buying Russian oil, though they have been told to 'explore alternatives' in light of international pressure. But market sources note that abandoning Russian oil would push India to source from Gulf producers, often at significantly higher prices. Critics also pointed to the irony in Trump's rhetoric, noting that arms shipments to Ukraine continue from the West, yet energy trade is being blamed for prolonging the war. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Also Read Sydney Sweeney 'Great Jeans' Ad slammed as tone-deaf and racist The reporter said, as shared by Rapid Response 47 on X (formerly known as Twitter), "Actress Sydney Sweeney, it came out this weekend that she's a registered Republican." Trump responded, "You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans ... I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!" Sydney Sweeney joins the TRUMP Train 🚂💨 — TrumpMeme (@GetTrumpMemes) August 4, 2025 The American Eagle ad campaign, featuring the slogan "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," stirred controversy on social media, with many users pointing out the reported misintended racist meaning behind it and its link to eugenics. A social media user wrote, "I don't like the Sydney Sweeney jeans ad; it makes me wonder why we're promoting eugenics when the country is in such bad shape. NO, I don't want your genes." Another added, "Maybe I'm too f*cking woke, but getting a blonde, blue-eyed white woman and basing your campaign on the idea that she has perfect genes seems strange, especially given how things are in America right now." The ad campaign was also used to raise money and awareness for a domestic violence organization by incorporating a Crisis Text Line into it. However, many social media users deemed the ad tone-deaf due to Sweeney's revealing outfit. An X user wrote, "Can't believe she even has to oversexualize domestic violence..."
