Abu Dhabi to operate eco-friendly green buses on Route No.65

Khaleej Times15-03-2025

Abu Dhabi public transport's bus No.65 has been converted into an eco-friendly service, Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on Saturday, March 15.
Route No.65 will now be operated entirely by green buses, which will be powered by advanced technologies such as hydrogen and electric energy.
The initiative contributes to reducing Abu Dhabi Mobility's environmental footprint and cutting carbon emissions while setting a new benchmark for sustainable urban mobility in the emirate. The transition is part of Abu Dhabi Mobility's ambitious strategic plan to transform Abu Dhabi into a Public Transport Green Zone by Year 2030.
Abu Dhabi Mobility aims to achieve an ambitious goal of decarbonisation by converting 50 per cent of the city's public transport to green alternatives. This initiative will result in a reduction of 200 tonnes of carbon daily, equivalent to removing 14,700 cars off the roads. This step reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility's ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable environmental solutions and reducing emissions across the emirate.
The operation of Bus Service No.65 using only green buses serves one of the busiest routes on Abu Dhabi Island. As one of the most important public transport routes in the city, it connects Marina Mall to Al Reem Island, accommodating approximately 6,000 passengers daily and covering more than 2,000km per day. This highlights the importance of providing environmentally friendly transport solutions to serve this large number of passengers while ensuring their comfort.
Use of green buses on other routes
Abu Dhabi Mobility continues its sustainability efforts by expanding the use of green buses to include other routes, such as Route 160, which connects Capital Park with Khalifa City, and Route A2, which links Abu Dhabi City to Zayed International Airport. These routes are part of an innovative transport strategy aimed at enhancing the public transport experience in Abu Dhabi.
The green buses are powered by hydrogen and electric energy, utilising advanced battery technologies and hydrogen fuel cells to ensure zero-emission operations. This technological shift reduces greenhouse gas emissions and operational energy consumption significantly.

There's been a brilliant visa update for Indian tourists travelling to the Philippines

Got the Philippines on your travel list? If you're an Indian national, packing for paradise just got a whole lot simpler. Starting June 8, Indian passport holders can enter the Philippines visa-free for up to 14 days for tourism purposes – no lengthy embassy visits or paperwork required. All you need is a passport valid for six months beyond your stay, proof of accommodation, funds to cover your trip and a return or onward ticket. That's your beach getaway sorted. But it gets even better. According to the same announcement, made by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, if you're an Indian citizen holding a valid visa or residence permit for the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore or the Schengen area, you can extend your island time to a full 30 days – no visa necessary. Just show your valid passport and return ticket at the border and you're in. The visa-free entry applies at all Philippine ports and while extensions aren't on the table (so don't overstay your welcome), this move is a major step towards smoother travel between India and the archipelago nation. There are a few fine-print notes: the policy is strictly for tourism. If you're transiting through, planning a longer stay, or heading to the Philippines for business, study or work, you'll still need to apply for the relevant visa through the usual consulate channels. Still, for Indian travellers dreaming of white sands, warm seas and unforgettable Filipino hospitality, this is very good news indeed. Need some travel inspo? Eid Al Adha holiday: Free parking and no toll fees in Abu Dhabi

Public parking will be free and road toll charges will be lifted in Abu Dhabi for the Eid Al Adha holiday. Abu Dhabi Mobility - the authority responsible for public transport in the capital - confirmed that surface parking fees would be halted from Thursday until Sunday. Paid parking charges will resume on Monday, the authority said in a post shared on social media. Drivers will not be charged for using Abu Dhabi's Darb road toll system during the same period. Road toll charges will be reactivated on Monday, as public and private sector employees return to work after the long weekend. Authorities last week announced the Eid Al Adha holiday would run from Thursday, when Arafat Day is observed, until Sunday. Eid Al Adha, which begins on Friday, means 'festival of the sacrifice' and is the second of the two Eid holidays celebrated around the Arab world, coming after Eid Al Fitr. Eid Al Adha commemorates how the Prophet Ibrahim was asked by God in a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as a test of his faith. As with other religious holidays in the Emirates, it is a time for friends and family to gather, often over meals, and reflect on their lives and faith. Eid Al Adha around the world - in pictures
