This major Abu Dhabi bus route will now use electric buses

Cleaner future, greener future… If you caught our piece only months ago about electric buses driving you around the UAE capital, we have more news: Abu Dhabi has taken another step closer to a greener future, with the launch of eco-friendly Bus Service No. 65, operated entirely by green buses powered by hydrogen and electric energy. Images: Abu Dhabi DMT, unsplash This initiative will boost the capital city's sustainable transport ecosystem, with buses operating with zero per cent emissions. As per data released by Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), this will result in 200 tonnes of less carbon dioxide daily, the equivalent of 14,700 fewer cars on the city's roads. Bus Service No. 65 will operate between Abu Dhabi's Marina Mall and Al Reem Island, ferrying about 6,000 riders a day across a total distance of 2,000km covered. The introduction of electric buses on this route is only one small step in an ambitious initiative that will soon see half of Abu Dhabi's public transport using green energy, with an eye on decarbonising urban transport. You'll soon also be able to ride these eco-friendly buses on Route 160 (between Khalifa City and Capital Park in Al Danah), and Route A2 (between Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street and Zayed International Airport's Employee Consolidation Centre). With tech such as advanced battery technologies and hydrogen fuel cells powering these green buses, Abu Dhabi is hitting new highs in sustainable transportation while supporting the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 vision. All of this, without compromising on passenger comfort. > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in

Abu Dhabi to operate eco-friendly green buses on Route No.65

Abu Dhabi public transport's bus No.65 has been converted into an eco-friendly service, Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on Saturday, March 15. Route No.65 will now be operated entirely by green buses, which will be powered by advanced technologies such as hydrogen and electric energy. The initiative contributes to reducing Abu Dhabi Mobility's environmental footprint and cutting carbon emissions while setting a new benchmark for sustainable urban mobility in the emirate. The transition is part of Abu Dhabi Mobility's ambitious strategic plan to transform Abu Dhabi into a Public Transport Green Zone by Year 2030. Abu Dhabi Mobility aims to achieve an ambitious goal of decarbonisation by converting 50 per cent of the city's public transport to green alternatives. This initiative will result in a reduction of 200 tonnes of carbon daily, equivalent to removing 14,700 cars off the roads. This step reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility's ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable environmental solutions and reducing emissions across the emirate. The operation of Bus Service No.65 using only green buses serves one of the busiest routes on Abu Dhabi Island. As one of the most important public transport routes in the city, it connects Marina Mall to Al Reem Island, accommodating approximately 6,000 passengers daily and covering more than 2,000km per day. This highlights the importance of providing environmentally friendly transport solutions to serve this large number of passengers while ensuring their comfort. Use of green buses on other routes Abu Dhabi Mobility continues its sustainability efforts by expanding the use of green buses to include other routes, such as Route 160, which connects Capital Park with Khalifa City, and Route A2, which links Abu Dhabi City to Zayed International Airport. These routes are part of an innovative transport strategy aimed at enhancing the public transport experience in Abu Dhabi. The green buses are powered by hydrogen and electric energy, utilising advanced battery technologies and hydrogen fuel cells to ensure zero-emission operations. This technological shift reduces greenhouse gas emissions and operational energy consumption significantly.
