DT Khalen Saunders reacts to being traded from Saints to Jaguars
News broke on Sunday night that the Jacksonville Jaguars were making a trade with the New Orleans Saints for veteran defensive tackle Khalen Saunders.
It was later reported that the Jaguars were trading away offensive lineman Luke Fortner to complete the deal.
Not long after that report came out, Saunders took to X to share his initial reaction to the move.
The addition of Saunders provides the Jaguars' defensive tackle depth with a much-needed boost.
This was a position that was an unknown entering the offseason; however, no significant moves were made during free agency or the NFL draft to bolster that unit.
Adding to the uncertainty this summer has been the injuries that Arik Armstead and Maason Smith have been working through, which have sidelined both players for all of training camp.
Saunders is an experienced player, having appeared in 68 games and made 32 starts in his NFL career. He also won two Super Bowls with Kansas City before joining the Saints.
At 6-0 - 324 pounds, Saunders brings an added run-stuffing presence to the Jaguars' defensive line.

Former NFL Player Hints at Potential New Orleans Saints QB Trade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New Orleans Saints definitely have quite the conundrum on their hands when it comes to their quarterback situation heading into the 2025 NFL season. Last year, the Saints drafted Spencer Rattler in the fifth round. They then selected Tyler Shough in Round 2 this past April. Following Derek Carr's injury and sudden retirement, one of them will have to start Week 1. Or will they? More news: Kyle Shanahan Singled Out for San Francisco 49ers' Injury Issues Former NFL quarterback Danny Kanell feels that New Orleans may seek a trade to upgrade the position, adding that the Saints may have the worst signal-caller situation in football right now. "And you just feel bad for Kellen Moore and the rest of the team if this is who they're rolling out there," Kanell said. "So I do wonder if they're making some phone calls looking to upgrade this position which might be the worst quarterback room in the entire NFL." Spencer Rattler #18 of the New Orleans Saints looks on before the game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on December 23, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Spencer Rattler #18 of the New Orleans Saints looks on before the game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on December 23, 2024 in Green Bay, is a former top collegiate prospect whose draft stock plummeted late in his NCAA career. He ended up making seven appearances and six starts for the Saints in 2024, throwing for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 57 percent of his passes. Not great. Meanwhile, Shough was viewed as one of the most NFL-ready quarterbacks of this year's draft class due to the fact that he actually spent seven years in college, playing for three different schools. He is also already 25 years old and has a birthday in September. However, he hasn't looked great in preseason. More news: Raiders Shockingly Predicted to Cut Ties With New Fan Favorite The problem is that there aren't really many enticing quarterback options available at this stage of the offseason. Perhaps New Orleans can pluck someone like Kenny Pickett away from the Cleveland Browns, but how much of an upgrade would he actually be, realistically speaking? The Saints may be better off seeing what one of Rattler or Shough has this fall and then potentially re-adjusting in the 2026 NFL Draft, which is sure to be teeming with quarterback talent. Archie Manning downplays Arch Manning in 2026 NFL Draft: 'He'll be at Texas'
Arch Manning has not had a full season as a starter yet for Texas football, but anticipation for his NFL career is already running rampant. Arch Manning, the nephew of former NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning, is widely projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, despite attempting just 95 career passes over his first two seasons with the Longhorns. REQUIRED READING: College football toughest schedules based on 2025 preseason poll rankings Manning's grandfather, Archie Manning, said he has not spoken to his grandson about his impending pro decision. But he told Texas Monthly he does not anticipate his grandson leaving Texas after starting one year in Austin. 'Arch isn't going to do that," Archie told Texas Monthly. "He'll be at Texas.' This could serve as a warning to any NFL teams potentially aiming to tank for the Texas Longhorns quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick. While Peyton and Eli Manning eventually went on to become the No. 1 overall picks in the 1998 and 2004 drafts, respectively, both stayed at college through the duration of their eligibility. Archie also went No. 2 overall in the 1971 NFL Draft, playing 13 seasons in the NFL. Eli Manning won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, while Peyton won one with the Indianapolis Colts and one with the Denver Broncos. Texas was ranked as the No. 1 team in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll released on Monday, Aug. 4. The Longhorns will open the season against No. 2 Ohio State in Week 1 on Aug. 28 in Columbus, Ohio. Manning has completed 63 of 95 passes for 969 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions while mainly serving as a backup to Quinn Ewers in his first two collegiate seasons. Ewers was a seventh-round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2025 NFL Draft. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Archie Manning projects Arch Manning will be 'at Texas' in 2026

3 takeaways from Day 17 of Jaguars' training camp: Injury updates and OL competition
Let's take a look at the three big takeaways from Day 17 of Jacksonville Jaguars' training camp. The Jacksonville Jaguars were back on the practice field on Tuesday as they enter their final week of the preseason. With a joint practice against the Dolphins on the horizon, Tuesday's practice was a bit lighter, but nonetheless, we have our three takeaways from what took place. New Jaguars' DT Khalen Saunders takes the practice field Just a few days after the news broke that the Jaguars were trading for Khalen Saunders, he was on the practice field on Tuesday and was wearing No. 68. Saunders is an experienced player, having appeared in 68 regular-season games while making 32 starts. He's also played in some big games, winning two Super Bowls in Kansas City. The addition of Saunders boosts the depth of the defensive tackle position and provides another run-stuffing presence. Saunders could fill a rotational role behind DaVon Hamilton. "A guy that we played against twice last year in Tampa that I've got respect for as a vet that's played a lot of meaningful downs in this league," Coen said. "Has won Super Bowls. Has been on teams that know how to win, and also, there's no question that he can help us in the middle, there at times. He's hard to double-team and move in there at times and also has some ability to redirect and has some initial quick. I do believe that he will help add some meaningful competition and depth in that room." Injury updates After practice, Liam Coen provided several injury updates. Both Travis Hunter and Tyson Campbell were practicing in some capacity on Tuesday. According to John Shipley of Jaguars on SI, Hunter went through stretch and then individual drills with the defensive backs. He also participated in the walkthrough portion but was not a part of the 7-on-7s or full-speed sessions. Coen called both Hunter and Campbell day-to-day. Back at practice, going through team drills were Arik Armstead, Maason Smith, Anton Harrison, and Chuma Edoga. Not participating was Wyatt Milum, who Coen said was week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Caleb Ransaw remains week-to-week as well. Competition at right guard As Coen said recently, there is competition taking place across the offensive line, but at right guard in particular is where things seem to be heating up. According to Mia O'Brien, Chuma Edoga and Patrick Mekari were rotating reps at that position. While it has been presumed that Mekari would step into that role, Edoga impressed early on in training camp while Mekari was sidelined. On the most recent unofficial depth chart, the starting right guard role was written as Mekari or Edgoa. Whoever doesn't win the job could end up as the Jaguars' starting right tackle over Anton Harrison. Both Edoga and Mekari have tackle experience at the NFL level.
