More than 400 foreign trucks face fines in KSA
RIYADH: The Transport General Authority fined more than 400 foreign trucks in several regions of the Kingdom between March 16 and 21 for regulatory offenses.
The actions were part of the authority's field campaigns on land transport activities aimed at enhancing compliance with regulations and laws, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.
The authority reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy, which imposes a SR10,000 ($2,666) fine and a 15-day impoundment for first-time offenders.
Repeat offenses incur escalating penalties: SR20,000 and 30 days for the second offense, SR40,000 and 60 days for the third, SR80,000 and 60 days for the fourth, and SR160,000 and 60 days for the fifth. Persistent offenders risk having their vehicles confiscated.
These nationwide campaigns enhance transport oversight, ensure fair competition, and support the national carrier, according to the SPA.
The authority has established four key regulations for foreign truck operations: obtaining an electronic transport document via 'bayan.logisti.sa,' limiting transport to return journeys, complying with local carrier rules, and settling offenses before entry or exit.

MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia's minister of media and chairman of the Saudi Press Agency, Salman bin Yousef Al-Dosari, on Wednesday launched the Saudi Photo Platform, a new digital initiative designed to offer free access to SPA's vast archive of authenticated images. Unveiled during the second edition of the Hajj Media Forum at the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Exhibition and Events Center, the platform will allow users worldwide to browse, use, and share images under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License. The forum was attended by local and international media representatives. Acting SPA President Ali bin Abdullah Al-Zaid said the platform reflected its strategy to make its visual archive more widely available to content creators around the globe, while preserving intellectual property rights and promoting creativity in a regulated digital environment. He added that launching the platform from Makkah held symbolic significance, reinforcing the city's historic role in conveying Saudi Arabia's message to the world, and said it marked an important step toward enhancing the Kingdom's visual presence in the digital space. The Saudi Photo Platform, which can be reached on features high-resolution images, sorted by category and accompanied by detailed metadata, including event descriptions and publication dates. The archive is continuously updated to document key national and international events, and the site is fully supported in both Arabic and English. The initiative is part of SPA's broader digital transformation agenda, aimed at modernizing publishing tools and fostering new partnerships with media outlets and online users worldwide, it said.

Saudi Arabia, Syria Explore Investment Cooperation
Saudi Arabia and Syria have explored avenues for investment cooperation in both countries, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). On Wednesday, the Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid Al-Falih, held a virtual meeting with the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar, to discuss avenues for joint investment cooperation and explore the promising economic opportunities in the Syrian market. During the meeting, the two ministers discussed potential areas for public-private partnership and ways to strengthen targeted investments in the productive and service sectors, with the aim of supporting economic development and opening new channels for integration between Saudi Arabia and Syria. On his part, Al-Falih emphasized the importance of fostering an enabling environment for expanding regional investment partnerships. He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting the stability and growth of Syria's economy in a way that benefits the mutual interests of both countries and promotes regional economic prosperity. Most recently, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, headed a high-level economic delegation to Syria, where he met with the Syrian Transitional President, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, in Damascus. They discussed avenues for joint cooperation aimed at supporting Syria's economy, enhancing the development of its governmental institutions, and fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people. The discussions yielded in the announcement of a Saudi-Qatari joint financial support package for Syrian public sector employees for three months. 'This support aims to contribute to economic and social stability, improve living conditions, and reinforce development efforts in Syria,' Saudi Arabia and Qatar said in a joint statement. Port of NEOM has marked a major milestone with the arrival of the first fully automated, remote-controlled Ship-To-Shore (STS) and Electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (eRTG) cranes in the Kingdom, advancing its goal to become a global hub for smart, sustainable trade, SPA reported. Strategically located on the Red Sea, Port of NEOM is already serving as a critical gateway on the East-West trade route. The newly arrived state-of-the-art cranes will play a critical role in the port's automation strategy, unlocking the potential for high-volume, high-efficiency operations. Development of Port of NEOM continues at a pace ahead of the 2026 opening of Terminal 1, a next-generation container terminal, with recent infrastructure milestones including the completion of a 900-meter quay wall and the deepening of the port channel to 18.5 meters—enabling the world's largest vessels transiting the Suez Canal to call at Port of NEOM. Terminal 1 will also feature horizontal transport automation as part of its broader goal to achieve full automation. Once operational, these technologies will significantly expand the port's logistics capacity, driving regional industrial growth, opening access to global markets, enhancing supply chain resilience, and unlocking business opportunities. Port of NEOM Managing Director Sean Kelly said: 'The arrival of our first automated cranes marks a tangible milestone as we lay the foundations for an advanced, future-ready port.
