Hen do guests walk out after being shoved in restaurant corner away from the main crowd - as bride's camp are branded 'mean girls'

Daily Mail28-05-2025

A group of women walked out of a hen do dinner after discovering they'd been seated at a separate table in the far corner of the restaurant - and now the fallout is viral on TikTok.
The drama was captured in a six-second video posted by UK-based TikTok user @mellyal, which shows her and three other guests sitting apart from the main party.
The caption reads: 'POV: You get invited to a hen do only to be sat on the other side of the restaurant in the corner.'
The clip has already garnered hundreds of thousands of likes and sparked a fierce debate in the comments, many of which apparently came from the bride herself, her friends and family, defending the decision to seat the guests on a separate table. They say it was because there was not space for the whole group.
However, most of those comments have since been deleted, with Melly alleging that some were so 'diabolical' they violated TikTok's community standards.
Viewers were quick to voice their disbelief and outrage at the reception the women claimed she received at the event - alleging that other guests didn't acknowledge her and had their backs to the corner.
'No but this is actually so bad! Why were you invited to be put in a corner?' asked one commenter.
Another wrote: 'The absolute attitude, cockiness and passive aggressiveness from whoever [the bride] is tells me you had a lucky escape leaving! It's giving childish mean girl vibes and was definitely deliberate.'
This TikToker shared a viral six-second video showing she and three other guests sitting in an isolated corner table at a hen do
Speculation soon emerged with some asking whether the women had been invited not for their company, but for their contribution to the bill.
'Girl you were invited to spread the cost lmao had this happen to me too,' one TikTok user claimed, while another echoed: 'Yeah you were invited to bring the cost down…'
A third added: 'You guys were invited as a "rent a crowd". Table fillers to make her look super popular.
'She and the organiser should have gone out of their way to welcome you if they wanted you there… they didn't, they just wanted the numbers.'
The bride had defended the decision in now-deleted responses, with her camp claiming there simply wasn't enough space to seat all 33 guests at one table.
But that excuse didn't sit well with viewers, one of whom replied: 'Their comments about not being able to accommodate 33 people… why book it then?'
After the original video exploded online, Melly posted a follow-up explaining the context behind her post, and why she apparently eventually left the event.
'I only know this bride because she's a colleague of mine,' she said. 'I've only known her for about three months, I don't know anything about her family, her friends, I've never met any of the people who attended in my entire life.'
Seated a distance away from the main table, the group apparently walked out and left the event
Later, Melly claimed she had received threats and anonymous calls telling her to take the video down
She went on to explain that the entire event had been booked weeks in advance as a 'surprise hen-do', and that it was 'definitely' pre-planned for her group to sit in the corner.
'To all the family and friends commenting "this was just how it was" - fair enough,' she said.
'But I saw the seating plan and it was arranged for us to be in the corner and there was definitely space.'
She continued: 'If there was no space, at least have the people who don't know anyone be involved because it's very, very awkward, it's an awkward situation to be put in.'
The apparent lack of warmth from the main group only made things worse, with Melly saying that nobody made any attempt at friendly conversation.
She said that neither she nor her companions were acknowledged by the main table and received, at best, a strained smile and, at worst, an eye-roll from a fellow guest as she took her seat.
Initially, she says she shared the clip for fun and had no idea it would gain such traction online. But the backlash from the bride's circle apparently soon turned toxic.
Commenters were quick to come to Melly's defence, arguing the bride shouldn't have invited more people than she could comfortably accommodate
In the video, Melly explained: 'This all happened because they chimed in, and that's not on me.' She also dismissed accusations that she posted the video to bully the bride.
'I hadn't mentioned any names or shown any faces other than those of the other women seated with me,' she explained.
According to Melly, once the video began circulating, she received anonymous messages and calls demanding she take it down.
Despite the attempts to silence her, according to Melly, public support appears to remain firmly on her side.
One TikTok user said: 'Why on earth would anyone book a hen in a restaurant where you can't even seat your whole party together!
'Absolutely shocking, and good for you walking out, I wouldn't waste my time either.'
Another wrote: 'I don't understand how people are okay with doing this to their guests.'
And with some comments now wiped from the post, many viewers are most saddened by having missed out on the 'drama' of the original comments.

Unassuming corner shop was seen by millions on classic 70s sitcom – but would you recognise it?

A CORNER shop from a classic 70s sitcom went under the hammer last year and is now an unassuming home. The building quietly sits in the Balby suburb of Doncaster in South Yorkshire. 5 5 It went under the hammer with a guide price of £150,000, before selling for £145,000 in October. It's likely that those living next-door have no idea that the building was once on one of Britain's most iconic TV shows. Open All Hours, which aired in 1976, ran for four seasons. It was rated the eighth best sitcom in the country in 2004. The show ran from 1976 to 1985 and had 17 million viewers a week at its peak. Created by Roy Clarke, the plot followed Albert Arkwright, who runs a grocery shop in Doncaster's Balby and is in love with Nurse Gladys, who lives opposite his shop. But Gladys rejects his proposals as she has to look after her ill mother. The fictional shop owned by Arkwright - played by Ronnie Barker - used a residential property for exterior shots. After the show ended, the building went up for auction but failed to sell. It was earmarked for demolition before campaigners saved it in 2008. The property was then concerned into a unisex hairdressers, called the Beautique hair salon. Auctioneers hoped that the property's TV history would attract plenty of bidders when it went to auction on October 16 with a guide price of £150,000. The building came with two self-contained flats on the upper floor and boasts an annual rent of £16,440 when fully let. Film crews moved in for weeks at a time for each series of Open All Hours. The end-terrace on Lister Avenue in Balby, less than a mile from Doncaster city centre, became a tourist attraction over the years. But now, those passing by would never guess at the house's history and fame. 5 5 Sir David Jason reveals touching gesture from Ronnie Barker after legendary Open All Hours star retired By Caron McKinlay ACTOR David Jason revealed this morning how the late Ronnie Barker gave him a touching gift. The two men worked together on classic sitcom Open All Hours from 1976 to 1985. During an appearance on Chris Moyles' Radio X show today, Sir David recounted how Ronnie gave him a certificate with fancy old fashioned writing. Chris asked if the writing was Calligraphy and David replied: 'Yes, that's it. Yeah.' David then went on to reveal that the certificate was about a foot wide by about two foot long . The certificate said 'Sir Ronnie Barker will give to his honourable friend, Sir David Jason, the title of The Governor which he shall now relinquish.' Chris and David agreed that the certificate was a lovely thing to do and then David asked Chris if he could guess where it's displayed. Chris correctly guessed it was displayed in the downstairs toilet and they both laughed. David went on to say that: 'Ronnie B was, which I learned, so generous with the whole team." He said that Ronnie knew that the only way you can get a successful show is to incorporate and encourage the team that you have. He said: "So, he had time for everybody, and he was generous of spirit and of time." David then said: "And because you do hear – no names, no pack drill – mainly some of the big names coming out of Hollywood who can be extremely difficult and a pain.'

'One last promotion party before looking to challenge ahead'

After five weeks on cloud nine, the Premier League table has officially refreshed for next season and Leeds United are alphabetically 11th - stop the count! The Kaiser Chiefs gig at Temple Newsam, celebrating 20 years of their debut album "Employment", felt like one last promotion party before attention turned to the challenge club anthem "I Predict a Riot" featured twice on the night - as Leeds' number nine turned guitarist Patrick Bamford took stage for a one-off performance with the band. The Championship trophy was present too, along with a crop of Bielsa-era three clubs promoted from the Championship have gone straight back down in each of the past two seasons, and so we are led to believe that any prospect of Leeds surviving is doubtful.I think if you unpack it, none of the clubs promoted in that time have had any big-club pull or mentality to do some smart, serious business in the transfer window. Leeds and Sunderland will both have for what he has gone on to achieve, is undoubtedly up there with the most ground-breaking transfers out of the Premier League since Gareth Bale in 2013 - having only spent two seasons at Elland sheer scale of Leeds United, its rich history and renowned fanbase, means they are naturally a more favoured TV selection for the numbers generated. All this, accompanied with the foundations in place and money at play, makes Leeds the more appetising stage for a certain type of factor next season is that nine clubs have qualified for European football, which will perhaps give Leeds an edge in games against weakened or fatigued sides.

James Argent's ex girlfriend Nicoline Artursson breaks silence on shock attack with emotional statement

Nicoline Artursson has broken her silence after ex-boyfriend James Argent's shock attack on her - and revealed the 'real reason' for his violent outburst. Former Towie star Arg, 37, turned on model Nicoline, 32, while they were at their home in Spain last month. 5 5 5 He was arrested and spent several hours in police cells before admitting a charge of domestic violence in court. Now Nicoline has spoken out in a statement - confessing: 'My fractures on my body have finally healed but I'm wounded inside.' Recalling the traumatic experience, she said: 'I was brutally thrown out of our new home in the middle of the night wearing only my pyjamas. 'I opened the door to let him in and only minutes after I found myself laying down on the stairs outside our house. My clothes and belongings were being thrown out from the balcony down on me. I was injured.' Nicoline also placed the blame for Arg's violence with constant clashes over his ex-girlfriend Lydia Bright. Shortly before the attack, while in a new relationship. And Nicoline claimed she and Arg often clashed over Lydia's involvement in their romance. She said: 'I felt there were too many people in our relationship: me, my boyfriend and his ex. 'Three's a crowd', they say. 'I asked so many times if we could be just the two of us, but the answer was a strong NO. Watch James Argent shamelessly dance on stage before holding fan 'meet & greets' on return to Spain after attack on ex 'I experienced what I can only describe as targeted emotional distress which he allowed to continue.' Nicoline continued: 'After being together for one year my boyfriend finally promised me that he would have boundaries. 'He would put a stop to all that had been going on for months. 'But he didn't. Instead he broke the promise and her controlling behaviour continued. The rest is history.' 5 Nicoline Artursson's statement in full It's now been a month. I still can't believe it. My fractures on my body have finally healed but I'm wounded inside. I've been quiet long enough. Silence protects no one - and it almost destroyed me. What started as a love story sadly turned into something else. Behind the pictures, promises and the plans for a life together - the beautiful days - changed into something into sadness with emotional manipulation and eventually physical harm. I loved deeply, believed in our future and stood by someone I thought would protect me and instead I was left alone and harmed in ways I never imagined. I was not only failed by him but deeply affected by the presence of unresolved ties to his past. Yes I posted an Instagram story with a simple yes or no question about if your ex should be a part of your present relationship. I felt there were too many people in our relationship: me, my boyfriend and his ex. 'Three's a crowd', they say. I asked so many times if we could be just the two of us, but the answer was a strong NO. I experienced what I can only describe as targeted emotional distress which he allowed to continue. The ex and her family put us through so much misery and false accusations, I won't go into details. They had no reason whatsoever to do what they did to us, but for some reason they wouldn't let go and let us enjoy our love. Everybody knows that real friends support you and want to see you happy. So I posted a story on Instagram. After being together for one year my boyfriend finally promised me that he would have boundaries. He would put a stop to all that had been going on for months. But he didn't. Instead he broke the promise and her controlling behaviour continued. The rest is history. I was brutally thrown out of our new home in the middle of the night wearing only my pyjamas. I opened the door to let him in and only minutes after I found myself laying down on the stairs outside our house. My clothes and belongings were being thrown out from the balcony down on me. I was injured. Thanks to incredible neighbours who heard and saw what happened and acted, I got help. They called police, brought me to safety and ensured the incident was taken seriously. A gentleman does not abuse you and end up in jail and call you the love of his life. A gentleman does not blame you for his actions. A gentleman will confide in his partner, family and close circle of friends, keeping them close and safe. A gentleman chooses you always and leaves the past in the past - including exes. Life is to be lived together and not to please people who want to take advantage of you. At the end of the day, fame can only do so much - it's all about being strong and growing together. Life is simply not a reality TV show, life is real. I have tried to understand why. I have cried so many tears thinking about the way he chose to hurt me. He said he loved me and I believed him and here we are. There is now a legal record of what happened. Violence has no excuse - no matter how much love preceded it. To those who questioned me for staying as long as I did: I stayed because I believed in love. I believed he and we could grow, could heal, could choose peace. But love doesn't survive in chaos. And it cannot survive where violence lives. To every woman reading this: if you've ever questioned your worth, your safety or your sanity in a relationship - this is your sign. You deserved to be loved with care and integrity. And you are not alone. To the men: real strength is protection. Real love is safe. Be the kind of man who lifts women up - not one who breaks them down, neither by violence or silence. To the future: never say never. I will get the little family I've always dreamed of and have my dream wedding to symbolise and celebrate true love in front of my dear family and friends. I'm healing now. Slowly, bravely and unapologetically. I will rise and I will use my voice - not for vengeance but for truth. For every woman who's been silenced by someone who said 'I love you' and then proved otherwise. This is not just my story. It's a reminder: abuse - whether emotional, psychological or physical - has no place in love.
