Yakshamangala award to be presented on June 27
Mangalore University (MU) will present its Yakshamangala Award for 2024 at a function in its Mangalagangotri campus on June 27. The award will be presented to Yakshagana scholars Ramananda Banari, M.L. Samaga, and Siddakatte Sadashiva Shettigar at 10.30 a.m. The Yakshamangala Book Award for 2024 will be presented to Ashoka Hasyagara of Sirsi for his Kannada book Dasharupakagala Dashavatara. The Chairman of the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, Talluru Shivarama Shetty, will participate as a guest, while the Vice-Chancellor of the university, P.L. Dharma, will preside, said Dhananjaya Kumble, Director, in a release on Tuesday. Former V-C of Karnataka Folklore University, K. Chinnappa Gowda, shall deliver the felicitation address. The Yakshamangala award comes with a purse of ₹25,000, a citation, and a memento. The book award comprises ₹10,000 cash, a citation, and a memento. Mr. Banari, a doctor and artist, has written over 15 books, including poetry collections and medical works. He is a well-known Talamaddale artist. Mr. Samaga, a veteran performer, scholar, and former English professor, is well-versed in both the Tenku and Badagu Thittu schools of Yakshagana. Mr. Shettigar, a senior professional artist, is known for his 'Bannada Vesha' and has performed in various Yakshagana melas. Mr. Hasyagara, a senior journalist and critic, in his book, gave a comparative study of Yakshagana and Natya Shastra, and has been praised for his meticulous research and insightful analysis in it, Mr. Kumble said.
