Two top NRL player agents banned and fined over serious alleged breaches
Mario Tartak, who represents such players as Josh Addo-Carr, Damien Cook and Haumole Olakau'atu, is alleged to have communicated with an underage player without a parent or guardian present.
The NRL also claims he 'entered into a commercial arrangement with two NRL clubs', which is a breach of the league's accredited agent scheme rules.
Tartak has been offered a 12-month suspension and $25,000 fine, with the NRL factoring in previous breach proceedings when considering his punishment.
The agent received a breach notice from the NRL in 2019 for failing to disclose bankruptcy proceedings.
A second agent Matthew Desira has been offered a six-month ban and $10,000 fine.
The NRL claims the agent of Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall did not disclose 'police charges and court proceedings' brought against him.
The pair's suspensions have the potential to cause headaches for players off contract this year, as well as those who will become free agents on November 1 ahead of their deals ending next season.
Tartak's clients Addo-Carr, Cook, Nathan Brown and Luciano Leilua are among those off contract in 2026, while Danny Levi and Josh Schuster headline his list of players with deals expiring this year.
Players can still be managed by other agents that operate out of the same company as Tartak and Desira.
Elsewhere, the NRL has issued Des Hasler with his final warning for criticising the match officials after the Gold Coast coach singled out a bunker referee in round 13.
Hasler has become the second coach this season to receive an official final warning from the league after North Queensland boss Todd Payten last month.
'Mr Hasler has been reminded of his obligations under the NRL Rules and Code of Conduct as well as his general responsibility as a sporting leader,' read a statement from the NRL.
'Negative public remarks about match officials significantly hinder the recruitment and retention of match officials at the community and pathways tiers of the game.
'All rugby league participants are reminded to respect match officials who perform a vital role within the game.'
Asked about his comments ahead of Saturday's clash with Brisbane, Hasler said: 'I was just pointing out a few things.'
Hasler was frustrated with a pivotal decision in the second half of his side's 28-16 loss to Melbourne last week and promised then to seek clarification from the NRL.
Titans hooker Sam Verrills was denied a try on the grounds he had made contact with teammate Tino Fa'asuamaleaui as he attempted to burrow past Melbourne defenders lying in the ruck.
Bunker official Kasey Badger ruled Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen had been denied the chance to tackle Verrills because of this contact, with the Storm scoring their match-sealing try minutes later.
'Kasey got it wrong, again,' Hasler said then of the call.
'There's an email from the NRL about players lying in the ruck; that's fine, let them lie in the ruck, but you shouldn't lose the advantage.
'They were lying all over the ground and six again, penalty, I don't know whether it was called, and young Vez (Verrills) picks up the ball and dives through, doesn't touch anyone, (Storm fullback Ryan) Papenhuyzen wasn't obstructed.
'That was the word-for-word what the NRL sent out so I'll be interested to see what their explanation was.'

It led to AFL great Luke Hodge launching a scathing attack on the Demons star on Tuesday night, stating Petracca has made it clear that he is more concerned with his own stats than what is best for the team. 'You've got Christian Petracca here letting him (Langford) know … he's put the arms up, he hasn't followed in. But the worst part is what comes after,' the three-time premiership skipper said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters. 'That results in a goal. Yes, he is bypassed, lets him know, lets everyone know. Hawthorn appears to be the obvious new home for Petracca if he wants the exit bad enough. The Hawks desperately need another goalkicking midfielder, and their attempts to poach Harley Reid out of West Coast are expected to fall short. While Melbourne needs a key forward desperately, and the Hawks have no shortage of them, making a swap deal very feasible. Hawthorn has Mabior Chol, Mitch Lewis, Calsher Dear and Jack Gunston all fighting for three places, and it would make sense for one to give way, especially if it results in them snaring Petracca. Collingwood and Carlton, who both voiced interest in Petracca at the end of last season, also could provide the 29-year-old with an exit plan. But Hodge says, regardless of whether or not he is there next year, Petracca needs to fix his attitude. 'Maybe he may not be there (next year). (But) Wherever he goes, his body language needs to get better,' Hodge continued. 'It's not all about him. It's about the team and how the team is moving forward.' However, it isn't just Petracca who could be itching to leave following Goodwin's exit. Speculation about the playing futures of Bayley Fritsch and Judd McVee is still rife, and they may try to follow Petracca out the door. While the future of captain Max Gawn is also up in the air, with the veteran big seeing Goodwin as a father figure, and he is understood to be furious with the club's decision to sack him. In the meantime, the Demons will face the Hawks on Saturday afternoon, in a clash sure to provide plenty of fireworks.

Man charged with murder after couple found dead in southeast Melbourne home
A man has been charged with the double murder of a couple found dead at a home in Melbourne's southeast. Police located the 39-year-old woman and 50-year-old man at the property on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley shortly before 10pm on Monday. The couple has been identified as Athena Georgopoulos, who was five months pregnant with a baby girl, and her partner Andrew Gunn, The Herald Sun reports. A 34-year-old man was arrested hours after the alleged murders at Westall train station, which is about a 10-minute drive from the Mount Waverley property. Police have described the man as having no fixed address. He was charged with two counts of murder is expected to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. It has been reported Mr Gunn was decapitated in the alleged killing. Detective Inspector Dean Thomas told the media on Tuesday officers suspected the man charged with the pair's murder was known to them, and that one of them lived at the Mount Waverley property. 'It appears to be targeted and our suspect is known to the address,' he said. Inspector Thomas said officers received a call for a welfare check 'based on some yelling' from the property, and a second call minutes later. He said the man was located with two large dogs before his arrest. Images from the scene showed scrawled on a property, including betrayal', 'enough is enough' and 'karma'. 'Police are aware of graffiti on the property in Mount Waverley where the bodies of two people were located last night,' a police spokesman said. 'Homicide Squad detectives will work to determine if the graffiti is relevant to the murder investigation.'

Man charged over Mount Waverley deaths of man and woman in graffiti-covered unit
A man has been charged with two counts of murder after police found the bodies of a man and a woman in a unit in Melbourne's south-east. Dozens of police, including members of the Critical Incident Response Team, were called to Mount Waverley after callers to triple-0 reported a disturbance at the Adrienne Crescent home about 9.55pm on Monday. Police were told a man had arrived at the unit and yelling could be heard coming from inside. Officers who attended found the bodies of a 39-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man. The Homicide Squad's Detective Inspector Dean Thomas on Tuesday described the discovery as traumatic and said counselling and support would be offered to officers and to neighbours in the unit block. A 34-year-old man was found with two large dogs at Westall Railway Station a few kilometres away several hours later The man, who is of no fixed address, was interviewed on Monday and has since been charged with two counts of murder. He will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today. The unit where the altercation occurred was covered in graffiti, including the words "karma", "betrayal" and "enough is enough". Police said they believed the accused knew the deceased man. Detectives and forensic officers remained at the scene throughout Tuesday, with a large section of Adrienne Crescent blocked off while investigations were carried out.
