Oman global hub for adventure tourism
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in collaboration with relevant authorities, continues to monitor this sector's growth while ensuring the provision of all necessary tourist services. These efforts have helped position Oman as one of the world's safest destinations for adventure activities, adhering strictly to safety and security standards.
Yousef bin Rashid al Harrasi, Head of Product Development at the Ministry, emphasised that diversifying tourism offerings is a core strategy aimed at attracting more visitors and enriching their experiences, particularly in adventure tourism — a segment that continues to gain traction globally. Oman's remarkable geological and natural diversity makes it a magnet for adventurers of all kinds.
Al Harrasi highlighted the Al Hajar Mountains are key locations offering activities such as hiking, zip-lining, caving, wadi swimming and mountain exploration. Dhofar and Musandam governorates are also becoming increasingly popular among adventure tourists.
He noted a significant rise in interest from both international and domestic tourists, with licensed tourism companies now offering a wide range of adventure packages, all in compliance with the Ministry's safety regulations. To support these activities, the Ministry has installed 73 information and directional signs; and 30 detailed trail signs across the Hajar ranges and Muscat Governorate. These aim to promote awareness of mountain trails and encourage adherence to safety protocols.
Oman's approach to regulating the adventure tourism sector draws from international best practices. In particular, the Ministry studied New Zealand's model, regarded as a global benchmark for managing adventure activities safely and effectively. As a result, Oman has established itself as a leader in this domain.
Additionally, a legal framework has been introduced to regulate adventure activities through appropriate licensing standards. The Ministry is currently developing a regulatory framework for adventure tour operators, along with a safety and risk audit system. Training centres have been set up to provide specialist instruction, identify suitable locations for adventure activities and encourage private investment in the sector.

Al Harrasi revealed that the Ministry is preparing to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Defence, specifically with the Adventure Training Centre of the Royal Army of Oman. The goal is to enhance safety compliance and offer professional training for Omani tour guides involved in adventure tourism.
Furthermore, a specialised training programme on first aid and mountain rescue has been implemented in partnership with the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority. So far, eight training courses have been conducted, targeting employees of adventure tourism companies and local adventurers to strengthen their capabilities in emergency response.
In May, the Ministry hosted a delegation from the Saudi Tourism Authority, including representatives from specialist tourism companies. The visit aimed to exchange knowledge and experience in regulating adventure tourism between the two nations. The delegation was briefed on Oman's regulatory framework, licensing process and guide accreditation procedures. Presentations by Omani tourism companies were also part of the agenda.

Oman, Uzbekistan explore stronger economic and investment ties
Muscat- The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Uzbekistan held official talks on Tuesday to boost cooperation in investment, industry and trade. H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, received in Muscat H E Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan. The discussions aimed at strengthening economic and investment relations between the two countries. The Uzbek delegation – comprising senior officials and business leaders – will hold meetings with Omani counterparts during their two-day visit, focusing on logistics, banking, textiles and oil and gas. The talks were attended by H E Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at MoCIIP; H E Abdul Salam Khatamov, Ambassador-designate of Uzbekistan to Oman; Eng Nasser bin Khalifa al Kindi, CEO of Invest in Oman; and a number of other officials. During a separate meeting with Uzbek business leaders, H E al Yousef presented investment opportunities in Oman, addressing trade challenges and highlighting the country's competitive investment environment. A presentation on 'Invest in Oman' showcased incentives for investors, benefits of the residency programme, and opportunities within special economic and free zones. The delegation is also scheduled to visit the 'Invest in Oman' lounge to review services, procedures and facilities available to investors. The visit reflects MoCIIP's efforts to position Oman as a leading investment destination and to expand partnerships with friendly countries to achieve mutual economic growth.

Final Preparations Underway for the upcoming Launch of the Hospitality Training Center at Hawana Salalah
Pioneering initiative by Muriya in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College to empower Omani youth for careers in hospitality Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman – 17 August 2025 – Final preparations are underway for the launch of the new Hospitality Training Center at Hawana Salalah, a flagship initiative spearheaded by Muriya, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College. Set within Oman's largest fully integrated tourism destination, Hawana Salalah by Orascom Development and Omran Group, the new center aims to equip young Omanis with world-class skills and practical training that will enable them to succeed in the dynamic hospitality sector. Scheduled to open its doors in the coming weeks, the center is in the final stages of development, with training facilities and specialized curricula nearing completion. Soon, 100 carefully selected young Omanis will embark on an intensive hands-on program covering front office operations and culinary arts, followed by direct job placements at Hawana Salalah's world-class hotels and resorts. Stretching across 13.6 kilometers of pristine coastline in Dhofar, Hawana Salalah is Oman's largest integrated tourism destination. It features over 2,000 hotel rooms, a state-of-the-art marina with more than 170 berths, the first waterpark of its kind in Salalah, vibrant waterfront communities, branded residences, and hosts year-round international events including IRONMAN 70.3, the SOCCA World Cup, and the IGFA Fishing Championship. This unique offering positions Hawana Salalah as a catalyst for economic diversification, modern lifestyle development, and community empowerment. Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Oman pavilion at Expo 2025 Oska captivates thousands everyday
Muscat – Oman's pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan has witnessed overwhelming response from international visitors since its opening on April 13 with over 5,000 to 6,000 people visiting daily. Located in the 'Saving Lives' zone of the expo, which is dedicated to sustainability, the pavilion presents Oman through the theme 'Water, Land and People'. The design connects these core elements that define Oman's identity and sustainable future with a blend of audiovisual storytelling and sensory experiences. Speaking to Muscat Daily from Japan, Amjad Nasser al Jadidi, Operations Manager of Oman's pavilion, said, 'The response has been incredible. The curiosity and queues never stop; visitors are genuinely curious about Oman beyond the stereotypical image of deserts and oil.' The pavilion features a captivating pre-show and main audiovisual experience that connects the core elements of water, land and people through powerful storytelling. Visitors then explore 'Water Corridor', a glass-covered simulation of Oman's traditional irrigation system (aflaj) and a wadi area, an open-air space reflecting the sultanate's natural landscapes. The sensory experience continues with scented bubbles infused with frankincense, locally curated Omani music and a pavilion-exclusive café menu. 'Our café offers signature drinks inspired by Omani flavours like cardamom, rose and clove,' said Jadidi. 'One unique item – Omani Halwa Mochi – merges Japanese and Omani traditions.' Screens throughout the pavilion share rich content on Oman's culture, tourism and investment opportunities. According to Jadidi, many Japanese visitors are surprised to learn about Oman's lush green mountains, pristine beaches and diverse culinary traditions. 'We're achieving our goal of reshaping perceptions and promoting the true essence of Oman. With its immersive design and cultural fusion, the pavilion is not only winning praise but also making lasting impressions of Oman on the global map.'
